Information and Communication Technologies and Their Impact on Competitiveness in Latin America 信息和通信技术及其对拉丁美洲竞争力的影响

One of the biggest challenges facing countries today is how to make their economies and industries competitive in the face of significant international rivalry and a globalized  environment.  Countries are making considerable efforts to boost the factors that make them more competitive, not least of these being the adoption of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), a determining factor in global industrial trends. Unfortunately however some countries have lagged behind in terms of ICT implementation, with the Latin American region being a specific example. This article seeks to identify whether there are significant differences between Latin American countries and their main trading partners with respect to ICT adoption, and also with respect to the Global Competitiveness Index (2019) produced by the World Economic Forum. The findings refer to the fact that there is a significant difference in how clusters of various Latin American countries are underpinning competitiveness through ICTs when compared to their main partners.

Industrial Policy and the Development of the Electric Vehicles Industry: The Case of Korea 产业政策与电动汽车产业的发展:以韩国为例

The Korean government has stimulated R&D activities of the electric vehicle (EV) industry and promoted commercialization of EVs. Korea’s EV industry developed rapidly. The industrial policy to promote the EV industry provides implications to the automobile producers. First, producers not developing EV technologies may lag behind in the market. Second, it is important to improve the efficiency of their R&D expenditures. Third, it may be effective for the less advanced EV producers to cooperate with foreign producers. Fourth, the EV producers are needed to cooperate with the rechargeable battery producers. Fifth, success of the EV industry will depend on the probability of reducing the production cost. Sixth, the government should prepare R&D support measures targeting promotion of SMEs in the EV industry. Seventh, the government wishing to promote the EV industry needs to define the responsibility of each Ministry and establish a system resolving conflicts between the Ministries efficiently.

La actual crisis sanitaria  global esta impulsando la  innovacion tecnologica disruptiva. Un tipo de innovacion en el que  pequenas empresas y con menos recursos son capaces de desafiar con exito a empresas  establecidas. En esta definicion original, Christensen  nos ensena   que la disrupcion es un proceso gradual.  Incluso, suele pasar  desapercibida  para los lideres  de la  industria que acostumbran a  sentirse tranquilos y seguros con sus cuotas de mercado.

The New Strategy to The Legitimation of Informal Firms. The Effects of The Signals and Biases on Decisions About Crowdfunding Digital Transformation 非正式企业合法化的新策略。众筹数字化转型决策中的信号和偏差影响

Competition between formal and informal companies has been increasingly studied. However, there is a lack of studies in the collaboration between formal and informal companies generated using crowdfunding platforms.  Based on the signaling theory and using the loans from 2019 of the Kiva crowdfunding platform. The drivers and enablers of the collaboration between formally registered firms (partners micro finances) and informal firms (unregistered firms - borrowers) in the context of the crowdfunding digital platform are studied. The results state a negative relationship between the lender's propensity to make loans and the informal firm's percentage borrowed. However, if the borrower receives a trustworthy partner (micro-finance), the borrower's negative impact decreases. Moreover, the lender's propensity to make loans lesser in projects of the tertiary sector. The study contributes to the entrepreneurship theory to understand the mechanism to legitimization the informal firm through collaboration with formal firms in the digital platforms.

Scientific and Technological Links from Samsung On Lithium Batteries and Graphene 三星关于锂电池和石墨烯的科技链接

Lithium and graphene are two substantial raw materials for the manufacture of lithium secondary batteries that can be recharged quickly, whenever a user needs it for the operation of computers, electric vehicles and cell phones, among other products. In this regard, Samsung appears as the world’s leading corporation, by observing the technology generation of this type of batteries and the molecule indicated previously, considering its environment and management. For this reason, the study aims to analyze and compare the effects of technological regimes on the technology generation of the leading companies of the Samsung group, as well as their networks, considering patent applications and the types of institutions related, even if there is collaboration between these companies. Our findings show that Samsung’s selected companies, related  to lithium rechargeable batteries and graphene, are strongly linked to their technological regimes.

An Exploration of Some Effects of Social Innovation Capability in Social Enterprises in Mexico 社会创新能力对墨西哥社会企业的影响研究

Social enterprises need to develop processes that create social value based on their initiative to find solutions to social problems through innovative strategies. The objective of this research was to examine the effect of social innovation capability, social marketing achievements and enterprise social performance as antecedents of social value creation in social enterprises in Mexico. An explanatory and cross-sectional study was developed for 106 managers of social enterprises in Mexico. A Structural Equation Modelling was applied using Partial Least Squares to test five hypotheses. The results supported that social innovation capability has a positive and direct effect on social value creation, social marketing achievements and enterprise social performance. Similarly, these last two showed a direct effect on social value creation. Particularly, it was identified that social innovation capability had the greatest effect on social value creation. The implications of the results are discussed.

La actual pandemia esta impulsando la innovacion y generando fuertes efectos en la sociedad. En este escenario, la teoria de las N-helices para el desarrollo y fortalecimiento de la innovacion cobra mucha relevancia. Originalmente, el modelo propuesto por Etzkowitz y  Leydesdorff (2020) en la llamada triple helice, plantea que existe una relacion virtuosa, capaz de generar e impulsar la innovacion mediante la vinculacion de tres actores: universidades, empresas y gobierno.

Dynamic Capabilities Impact on Innovation: Niche Market and Startups 动态能力对创新的影响:利基市场和初创企业

The purpose of this study is to understand innovation of startups operating in a niche market.  Through a review of previous research works, a conceptual model and propositions are developed, where illustration of a company case is used to exemplify this model. It reveals that a research gap exists regarding startups in a niche market with dynamic capabilities and breakthrough innovations as a source of success. This study reflects on the potential relationship between dynamic capabilities and breakthrough innovation of a startup and its subsequent effect on the performance of the startup in a niche market. It has proposed that dynamic capabilities work as a foundation for startup to develop a breakthrough innovation. It also proposed that in a niche market, both core competency and industrial network are crucial for a startup to scaleup, where breakthrough innovation works as a pathway to acquire consumer acceptance.

University-Industry Relations and Industrial Innovation: Evidence from Brazil 大学-产业关系与产业创新:来自巴西的证据

: University-industry relations are an important factor for industrial innovation. However, the results of these relationships for the firms remain largely unmeasured. Moreover, the contribution of different types of interactions to firm innovativeness is known mainly in theoretical terms. Departing from a secondary data of Brazilian university-industry interaction survey, also known as “BR survey”, this study employs crisp-set qualitative comparative analysis (csQCA) to identify how five types of University-industry interactions - training-oriented, service-oriented, diffusion-oriented, development-oriented, and research-oriented - combine to produce high innovation output. The results show that the most complex interactions - development-oriented and research-oriented - are the only types of interactions that alone lead the firm to high innovativeness. In contrast, less complex interactions alone are not enough to make the firm innovate beyond the “new-to-the-firm” level and need to be complemented by more complex interaction.

Evaluating Innovation and Export Capabilities of SMEs: Toward a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Methodology 中小企业创新与出口能力评价:基于多准则的决策方法

A large number of studies have demonstrated the strong influence of and correlation between innovation and export activities as key factors of the firm’s competitiveness. However, these two activities have usually been considered independently of each other in terms of management and support. This paper relies on the characterization of a conceptual innovation/export common space representing the synergistic effects between these two activities. A hybrid AHP/Flowsort MCDM-methodology is proposed in order to model this common space through the evaluation of a framework of joint practices related simultaneously to the innovation and export capabilities of SMEs. The relevance of this methodology is tested through the design of a decision-making tool applied to a French exporting and innovative SME. This case study opens up further research perspectives and points to areas for improvement in the evaluation of SMEs’ capabilities.
