One of the most unknown sides of the art nouveau architect Joan Amigó Barriga is his role as interior designer. In this article, we would like to introduce the indoors created by the architect through the years, where we can observe the harmony between façades, insides and furniture. Besides, we also focus on his peculiar influence from the Vienna Secession, Glasgow School and later in the ’30s by the art déco style.

The aim of this paper is to provide an in-depth information of two pedestal tables (named Table du Sacre and Guéridon Mauresque) designed by Leloy, and kept in the royal collections of Patrimonio Nacional (National Heritage). Despite their differences, they both have some elements in common: not only Sèvres porcelain was used as their main decorative material offering painted historical scenes, but also both of them were gifts from French sovereigns to Spanish monarchs. The two pieces were also displayed in the 19th century at the Louvre Royale Manufactures Exhibitions as an example of the high quality that the Sèvres Manufacture achived. Although the Table du Sacre (table of coronation due to its iconography) is of great interest, the decoration of the Guéridon Mauresque is specially remarkable as it provides an interesting insight between courts. It depicts Boabdil leaving the Alhambra, being directly inspired by the Nasrid Palace (15th century): a piece of furniture depicting a scene of the Spanish Moorish past, was made in France and later offered as a gift to the regent of the Spanish Kingdom María Cristina de Borbón.

Medical topographies are works studying the environmental and material conditions of a territory aiming to take preventive action in order to improve public health and hygiene. Aside from health matters, the area’s geography, climate, fauna and flora, urbanism, demographics, economy, history, etc. are also considered in these works. This scientific literary genre flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is a very compelling source of historical knowledge. Furthermore, the case of Asturias is exceptional, since over fifty works covering much of the region’s territory were written. Using their data on living conditions in rural areas as a starting point, we offer a brief overview of conditions in rural environments, their problems and transformations in the first decades of the 20th century

Design has proved to be a discipline deeply connected to our daily lives. Its identification as a cultural heritage element is undeniable due to its wide-ranging values. In this sense, the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona has been promoting this artistic field since its creation in 2008. This museum has a relevant social and cultural function as it is the only design museum in Spain. Furthermore, the museum also stands out because of its innovative pedagogical programmes pointed to scholars, university students, families and groups of people with accessibility problems. The aim of this article is to present the Musseu del Disseny de Barcelona from an educational perspective, paying attention to its staff members, facilities, programmes and assessment. The 2018 museum annual report results are an example of its success. In order to accomplish this study, the authors have recently interviewed in-depth some members of the pedagogical team (Serveis Educatius).

The study of cultural heritage was central to the CRAFT international workshop held at the Art Biennale in Venice in 2019 for students of architecture, engineering, art history and philosophy. For some of the students, the focus was on the cultural heritage at San Marco Square. This essay is a short reflection about the outcome of this workshop in regard to using cultural heritage in the teaching of contemporary students.

Stories and storytelling are part of our cultural heritage and we have experimented if these experiences and memories in a learning and teaching activity can contribute to new understandings and a new sense of community. Stories connect people, while also contributing to the freedom of thinking. Referring to Walter Benjamin, the German literary critic and philosopher, this paper reflects upon the stories, myths, legends and fairytales of Venice in relation to teaching and the use of storytelling as a tool in teaching. More specifically, it concerns an exploratory study with new and unique methods and interdisciplinary collaboration that focus on understanding cultural heritage through storytelling, including the freedom of thinking as an original teaching method to initiate creativity and imagination for the students in their works. The reflection is based on practical experiences during the CRAFT summer school during the Art Biennale 2019 in Venice.
