In this paper, on the occasion of publishing the fiftieth issue of Space & form, the authors discuss a range of problems from its history. The anniversary issue of the journal is also an occasion to present the current legal situation with a focus on threats that the academic journal market in Poland currently faces. A broad investigation of legal acts and information about selected journals presents matters concerning academic journals in Poland and present information and statistics, specifically for selected periodicals from the architecture and urban planning discipline. Selected determinants of the scoring system of academic journals in Poland have been presented.

The article presents research on wooden architecture in Zielona Góra, characterizes the historical value of wooden cultural heritage, emphasises the role of the local building tradition, the categories of familiarity and originality of the architecture. It accentuates the value of the historic detail and ornamentation of the front elevations, made out half-timbered structure, and identifies the building stock of this type of architecture in the capital of the Lubusz Voivodeship. Only a few monuments are listed, which results in the slow disappearance of half-timbered houses from the landscape of Zielona Góra, as only some of them have undergone conservation and partial revitalisation.

The objective of this paper is to present greenery design processes in publicly accessible heritage areas. This subject concerns sites under conservation via monument protection forms and new sites built in areas protected by provisions for urban complexes. Cases from Krakow, a city considered a monument by UNESCO, were analyzed. The temporal scope of the study was the last twenty-two years. The study was based on an investigation of the literature and analytical methods. The findings produced a review of design activity, as well as controversial and divisive matters. The discussion and conclusions feature an assessment of the activity investigated, which served to supplement general guidelines for the conservation approach model under current legal, environmental and social conditions. Design standards were also discussed.

Self-education is an essential component of architectural practice. In this work, it marks the field in which an attempt is made to define the relationship between the project, the design process, problems and goals of the project, and the architect's attitude (towards the project). It is a contribution to the organization of knowledge about how the elements dependent on the designer himself affect the shape of the solution being formed and how, consciously, selected attitudes can be used in specific situations.

The article presents the issues of interpretative possibilities and ways of presenting a tree symbol in the design of memorial sites. These studies are an introduction to in-depth research on the methodology of designing memorial sites. The work aims to study the "tree" symbol in shaping the morphological structure of the architecture of memorial sites. The work attempts to show the "tree" as a kind of "idiom," shaping the structural character of memorial sites. This goal was supported by the practice of designing memorial sites, in which selected cases are described in detail here.

The design and development of cities is the most complicated phenomenon in the domain of shaping space. It is the result of planned human activities related to land parcellation, building infrastructure, establishing safety rules, creating a friendly scale and aesthetics of public spaces. It is also the result of spontaneous processes that take place without strict control. It is influenced by economy, demography, environmental factors, as well as wars, conflicts, and competition between entities. In architecture, it is possible to build knowledge and competences by performing tests on a 1:1 scale. Although expensive and difficult, it sometimes brings the desired results and opens the perspective to new design techniques. In urban planning, the subject of creative activities is too complex to test final solutions. The time from design to implementation is too long to use your own experience even indirectly. The only way to test urban ideas in the conceptual phase is to create models. Both geometric and social features could be represented. The most perfect contemporary models attempt to comprise many processes of city functioning, including spontaneous activities conditioned by external and internal factors.

Contrary to Europe, where museums were created from transformed collections, in America the first museums were founded on the basis of scientific institutions. Only in the second half of the nineteenth century, museums are formed based on private collections. Objects were erected to house the collections, which for a long time, almost until the middle of the 20th century, stylistically referred to the architecture of ancient Greece. From the mid-nineteenth century, museums began to be built, for which architects looked for inspiration in later styles. And although neo-gothic, neorenaissance and neo-baroque objects appeared, the Greek Revival dominated museum architecture in the United States, created by graduates of the Parisian École des Beaux-Arts.

The main purpose of studying the dynamics of the geometric parameters of the country's living premises is to determine the patterns of their transformation as a result of changes in the lifestyle of the population. An analysis of official statistical information presented in the reports on population censuses and inventory of residential premises conducted in recent years in Russia, Japan and the United States made it possible to identify the dependence of changes in the number and area of living premises on the direction of development of the property structure in the country. Despite the relative stability of the reproduction of the traditional spatial image of the country's living premises, the change in its characteristics also depends on the level and character of the distribution of housing provision among the population. In the 19th century, a wide variety of living conditions with a low level of housing provision for the population led to an increase in state support for the construction of housing, which made it possible to narrow the geometric parameters of housing under construction and increase the average level of provision in countries. With the increase in the economic opportunities of households, it becomes preferable to purchase housing in private ownership, which makes it possible to expand the variety of living conditions and increase the average provision of housing for the population. The complete privatization of dwellings, observed at the end of the 20th century, leads to the emergence of private rent, which narrows the geometric characteristics of the dwelling under construction and increases the uneven housing supply again. During periods of economic crises, there are noticeable shifts in the transformation of the spatial image of a dwelling, associated with the search for the highest quality geometric forms of a dwelling, which change the direction of its reproduction during periods of restoration.

The objective of this paper is to present a study of how the color schemes of architecture ended to change and presented themselves after 1945 in Poland and Slovakia. For the purposes of this investigation all types of buildings were examined – the study does not distinguish between listed buildings and other historical buildings. It offers an overview of exterior colour choices in architecture since 1945 in Poland and Slovakia using studies in literature sources, archive research, survey responses and own field research.

The subject of this paper is an analysis of the impact of public participation on the form of contemporary architecture. A division into three basic stylistic-temporal trajectories was made, distinguished based on design methodology that includes participation: late Modernism, Postmodernism, and participative architecture of the early twenty-first century. Based on an analysis of theoretical texts and selected structures, distinctive features of a given period were identified. The study resulted in an identification of major tendencies that document changes in architectural forms stemming from a diverse range of design methodologies that feature participation.
