As a key player in preventive health care, pharmacists need to raise the issue of doping in sport with their patients. Every practitioner may be confronted with them intentionally or accidentally, and must therefore be made aware of the risks and precautions to be taken when consuming a drug or dietary supplement. Pharmacists need to keep up to date on this subject, which has been evolving steadily over the last few decades.

Every human being capable of eating well should consume carbohydrates, dairy products or substitutes, fats of good nutritional quality, proteins and fresh fruit and vegetables on a daily basis. The macronutrient requirements of athletes are particularly high.

The autonomic hormonal and nervous systems regulate cellular homeostasis and the body’s major physiological functions. They are activated when an aggression occurs and according to its intensity. There is a specific, immediate physiological response to stress, and, when the aggression persists, a slower response that does not involve the same protagonists. If stress factors are too intense and/or too long-lasting, the body may fail to adapt, and the physiological response system may malfunction.
