Despite the plethora of its available studies at local level, the historiographic production on the Democratic Sexennial presents significant gaps in terms of Madrid’s evolution. This article will seek to cover some of those gaps by focusing on the study of the dynamics that the local authorities of that city, subject to a democratising experience, developed throughout that period. Based on the research of the urban police documentation of Madrid City Council between 1868 and 1873, we will delve into the intervention policies of a municipal government renewed in its ideals, in relation to the change of scale that Madrid had reflected during the last decades of the monarchical era. More specifically, we will study the local initiatives concerning the implementation of good governance mechanisms in the city. Mechanisms that, in fact, covered up the attempt to reconfigure the urban space, in order to make it more legible and transparent with regard to its uses and social practices on a daily basis.

El Occidente islámico en la obra de al-Muqaddasī Al-Muqaddasò作品中的伊斯兰西方

In this article we are going to approach the geographical work of al-Muḳaddasī (380/990), Kitāb aḥsan al-taqāsīm fī maʿrifat al-aqālīm (The best divisions for knowledge of the regions). His geographical conception and his systematic methodology make him one of the best representative figures of the geographical literature of the 10th century. Even though, his work includes the geography of empire controlled by Muslims (mamlaka), my contribution just will focus on the Western Islamic world, of which al-Muḳaddasī offers an interesting point of view, firstly for his oriental origin, and secondly for the sources used (he didn’t travel to al-Andalus, and there are few possibilities that he did it to the Maghreb, but that doesn’t diminish his work). As an intellectual of the genre al-masālik wa-l-mamālik (the paths and kingdoms), he focused on toponymies and principle western routes, which are exhaustively detailed in his work. However, his work as an expert went beyond a part of the physical geographic, so that he focused his interest also in aspects typical of the human geographic. For that reason, his work offers a lot of details about populations of the areas described (habits, food, clothes, religion etc.), providing a testimony which is unique and precise, with a huge value for who is interested in Western Islamic medieval world.

La depuración del magisterio primario en la ciudad de Segovia (1936-1939) 塞戈维亚市小学教师的清洗(1936-1939)

La depuracion del magisterio durante la Guerra Civil ha sido objeto de interes para muchos historiadores, que han tratado de cuantificar este proceso depurador atendiendo a variables regionales y han dejado al margen los perfiles individuales de aquellos docentes que vivieron la purga. Profundizar en sus biografias es hoy una tarea necesaria para avanzar en esta linea de investigacion. El objetivo de este articulo es conocer como se llevo a cabo el proceso depurador del magisterio en la ciudad de Segovia (1936-1939) atendiendo a variables biograficas y de genero. A traves del analisis de los cargos que les fueron imputados a los treinta y siete maestros y las maestras que trabajaban en las escuelas publicas de la capital y las sanciones que recibieron, llegaremos a conocer el perfil del magisterio segoviano en el franquismo. Partimos de una metodologia historico-educativa que se sustenta en tres fuentes fundamentales: los expedientes de depuracion de los docentes, sus expedientes profesionales e informacion biografica de cada uno de ellos recogida en diversos archivos segovianos. Los resultados revelan como un grupo de maestros y maestras con un espiritu renovador, que fueron reconocidos por la administracion educativa por su labor al frente de las escuelas y por sus inquietudes pedagogicas antes de la guerra, sufrieron la separacion del cargo y en algunos casos la muerte. Su destino fue distinto al de aquellos docentes que cumplieron con un modelo educativo tradicional y que fueron premiados tras la depuracion por su incondicional apoyo a la patria y el catolicismo.

Influencia del icono oriental en el arte sacro contemporáneo: la obra de Rupnik y Argüello en la catedral de La Almudena de Madrid 东方偶像对当代神圣艺术的影响:鲁普尼克和arguello在马德里阿尔穆德纳大教堂的作品

The world of contemporary sacred art has experienced in recent decades a return to figuration linked to the rediscovery of icons. Different authors have turned to the Eastern tradition to retake a path of the sacred image that in the Church of the West had already been lost for the sake of a certain iconoclasm especially present in the central decades of the 20th century. Overcoming these moments of crisis of the sacred image, especially linked to the Liturgical Movement and its architectural expression through German functionalism, a determined attitude of recovery of the icon is observed as a category especially conducive to the creation of sacred and liturgical art, also rediscovering itself, in a more theoretical sphere, the theology associated with these plastic expressions. For this reason, we have discovered over the last decades a recovery of the icon that extends beyond the limits of the Orthodox world, creating paths of reciprocal influences between East and West. In this paper, the influence of the oriental icon in contemporary sacred art will be analyzed through the study of the contributions that Kiko Arguello and Marko Ivan Rupnik have made in the Cathedral of La Almudena in Madrid between 2004 and 2011. The comparative study of different Iconographies will allow us to appreciate the assumption and reinterpretation of eastern models as a vehicle for the renewal of western sacred art.

Mujeres y meritocracia. Raíces históricas de un paradigma y posibilidades actuales de transformación 女性与精英统治。一种范式的历史根源和当前转型的可能性

The work investigates about the possibilities that a majority of women contribute to form a social subject of transformation of the current competitive-meritocratic model. It is started from the hypothesis that meritocratic valuation is at the base of all historical forms of social inequality, including gender inequality. An approach that is confirmed through a review of the attribution of merits to the dominant classes from the beginning of social stratification to the contemporary age. Although with the latter, women are becoming incorporated, thanks to the conquest of rights, into the mechanisms of competition that are characteristic of our societies, a large number continue to find themselves on the margins or in inferior conditions to compete. Feminist economics and ecofeminism have revealed that this is due, in part, to the fact that a majority of women continue to be involved in care work and work that reproduces life. These remain outside the dynamics of meritocratic competition and the permanent revaluation of capital. For this reason, such approaches integrate them into the alternatives to the current ecological, economic and social crisis. This type of life’s recreation activities can be connected with the notions of good or self-realized work that have long been handled. We find then that women could be an important part of a process of transformation of the current paradigm that legitimizes inequalities, and the degradation and destruction of life at all levels.

Madri irregolari: l’esperienza dell’ospizio di maternità di Bologna dal 1860 al 1919 非正规母亲:1860年至1919年博洛尼亚母婴院的经验

Beginning with the analysis of documents held in the Provincial Historical Archive of Bologna, this article reconstructs the history of «ospizio di maternita», annexed in 1860 to the centuries-old city brefotrofio, with the aim of addressing no longer only illegitimate children but also the women who carried them on their lap. They became centers of propulsion of policies and initiatives that intended to overcome the old and by now obsolete logic that placed these mothers in the category of “deviance”, and to recognize them as subjects towards which to provide forms of protection at a social and hygienic-sanitary level. The history of the Felsinea Institution will be compared with other structures established with similar aims and purposes on a national scale, within which new knowledge and practices in the field of obstetrics will be tested and developed.

La recepción de las Maravillas de la Antigüedad en España a través de los testimonios de viajeros a Egipto entre el s. XII y los albores del XVI 从12世纪到16世纪初,通过前往埃及的旅行者的证词,西班牙对古代奇迹的接受

The aim of this study is to analyse the news about the Pyramids and the Lighthouse of Alexandria within the framework of the Iberian Peninsula between the Full Middle Ages and the beginning of the Modern Age through the examination of the testimonies of travellers from al-Andalus and the Christian kingdoms. It also seeks to demonstrate the importance of these travels in the transmission of knowledge about Egypt’s great monuments and the influence of the diverse education and religious-cultural context of each of the travellers when describing them. Likewise, the reception of these texts will be reviewed in order to consider their role in visual conceptions about these wonders and the establishment of archetypes. The studied sources include, for the case of Arab travellers from al-Andalus, descriptions by al-Gharnati and al-Balawi; the testimony of the Jewish traveller Benjamin of Tudela; and the writings of the Christian travellers Pedro Tafur and Pedro Martir de Angleria. The analysis highlights the importance of travel as a direct method of knowledge about ancient monuments and as a way to contrast the information received from older sources, whether written or visual. On the other hand, it has been found that the greater or lesser accuracy of the collected data by these travellers in their descriptions has much to do with the different education, personal cultural level and influence of the religious-cultural context of each of them.

In a little number of homes in the city of Burgos, its owners had furniture characterized by its remarkable exclusivity. It is about the presence, in their domestic interiors, of dressing tables, chests of drawers and folding screens. We find the dressers in 7.7 % of the inventories collected. The screen in, only, 4.5 %. If we take into account that the couch, had been included in the rooms of 9% of the houses and that such a curious refinement as «A table for lunch and dinner in bed» only appears in 5.6 %, we intend to carry out a historical reconstruction on items marked by singularity, materialized in homes given to the search for notoriety, comfort and, perhaps, tormented by the tyranny of fashion.

We understand that the best way to study this topic is to observe the bond between all these words -culture, civilization, symbol and barbarism- and, in parallel, to divest them of ideological connections. Furthermore, we will explore the back or negative of these concepts: from this perspective, we can illuminate other aspects of the current matter.
