Introduction: Effective assessment is one of the most important educational planning elements. The present study aimed to determine the impact of open-book assessment on students’ learning and satisfaction. Material and methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study on 60 4th semester students of operating room and anesthesiology of the North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences, North of Iran from 1 July 2019 to 30 March 2020. In the intervention group, the students were divided into groups of five and were given essay questions and a textbook on blood transfusion, and were asked to answer the questions in a participatory and open-book assessment method. In the control group, the assessment was performed in a separate environment by a written method with the same essay questions as the intervention group. Results: The results showed that 89% of the students in the intervention group were satisfied with the openbook assessment method. The majority of students found this method effective in reducing test fear and anxiety (93.4%), increasing durability and depth of learning (90%), improving speed and facilitating learning (80%) and creating interest and satisfaction (89%) and reported completely agree. The mean score of students in the intervention group was 4.5 ±0.77 and in the control group was 2.2 ±0.85, which was statistically significant (p = 0.01). Conclusions: The open-book assessment method leads to the students’ active participation in studying and answering questions. It also facilitates deep learning, reduces anxiety, and improves the students’ learning speed. Universities should promote students’ learning, academic achievement, and motivation through innovative assessment methods.

Introduction To evaluate the presence and severity of anxiety and depressive symptoms in patients who recently recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Material and methods In this cross?sectional observational study, patients who had recovered from COVID-19 were assessed between February and April 2021. The symptoms reported by patients were evaluated using a questionnaire developed by the authors based on the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) were used to assess their depressive symptoms and anxiety. Results Of the 102 patients, 45 (44%) were men, and the mean age (± standard deviation – SD) was 52 ±13 years. The mean time interval (±SD) between COVID-19 diagnosis and the examination was 56 ±18 days. Seventy-eight (76%) patients were treated at home, while 24 (23.5%) were hospitalized. Fatigue, cognitive impairment (“brain fog”), breathlessness, and cough were the most frequently reported complaints. Median scores of the BDI, state-anxiety (STAI 1) and trait-anxiety (STAI 2) were 7 (interquartile range, IQR = 10), 38 (IQR = 13), and 40.5 (IQR = 14), respectively. Mild depressive symptoms were observed in almost 30% of patients. Women scored significantly higher than men. Conclusions Patients who have recently recovered from COVID-19 show increased anxiety and depressive symptoms, the intensity of which was more pronounced in women. From the clinical perspective, physicians should be aware of the anxiety and depressive symptoms of the post-COVID-19 syndrome.

Introduction: The term Dhat comes from the Sanskrit word Dhatu . There have been mentions of various syndromes related to semen loss not only in cultures of developing countries but also in the western world. Dhat syndrome is mentioned in the ancient Sushrut-Samhita . As per DSM-V, Dhat syndrome is considered a cultural explanation of distress for patients who refer to diverse symptoms, such as anxiety, fatigue, weakness, weight loss, impotence, other multiple somatic complaints, and depressive mood. Aim of the study: To determine the prevalence and severity of depression and anxiety in patients with Dhat syndrome. Material and methods: All consecutive patients (54) presenting with the complaint of Dhat emission were included. Patients who were non-consensual, having depression and anxiety before onset of Dhat syndrome and those having sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or any organic cause for whitish discharge from the penis were excluded. A semi-structured questionnaire of socio-demographic characteristics and variables regarding sexual history related to Dhat was used. Hamilton Depression (HAM-D) Scale and Hamilton Anxiety (HAM-A) Scale were used. Results: Of the 54 patients about 25.93% had mild symptoms of depression, 14.81% had moderate severity, while 9.26% had severe symptoms of depression, while the remaining 50% of them were normal. While 74% had anxiety of mild severity, 19% had mild to moderate severity and 7% moderate to severe intensity of anxiety. Also 51.85% had comorbid sexual dysfunctions (erectile dysfunction – ED, premature ejaculation – PME). Conclusions: The primary disease, being depression and anxiety, which are often missed and are resistant to treatment due to their strong basis in cultural misbelief of semen loss, needs to be tackled aggressively.

Introduction: Nurses as health defenders in the front line of COVID-19 are among the high-risk and vulnerable groups for this disease. Moreover, they experience a lot of anxiety as well as psychological and emotional strain. In such situations, it is extremely important to pay attention to their resilience. Therefore, the present study attempted to compare resilience and anxiety between nurses working in the COVID-19 wards and nurses working in other wards in southern Iran in 2020. Material and methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted by complete enumeration, meaning that the sampling process was done in a full-census manner. For the purpose of this study, 1857 nurses (866 nurses working in the COVID-19 wards and 991 nurses working in other wards) were included. To collect the required data, this study applied demographic surveys, the Corona Disease Anxiety Scale (CDAS), and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Results: The mean and standard deviation of the anxiety and resilience scores of nurses working in the COVID-19 wards were 44.11 +/- 7.48 and 73.09 +/- 15.76, respectively. Moreover, the anxiety and resilience scores of nurses working in other wards were 41.57 +/- 6.70 and 75.58 +/- 8.34, respectively. Also, a statistically significant correlation was found between resilience and anxiety (r = -0.47,p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study showed that nurses are dealing with high levels of anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was concluded that due to the effect of resilience on the reduction of anxiety, nurse managers must apply the necessary psychological skill programs, in order to enhance psychological capabilities, improve nurses' resilience, and reduce coronavirus anxiety.

Moreover, the anxiety and resilience scores of nurses working in other wards were 41.57 +/- 6.70 and 75.58 +/- 8.34, respectively. Also, a statistically significant correlation was found between resilience and anxiety (r = -0.47,p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study showed that nurses are dealing with high levels of anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was concluded that due to the effect of resilience on the reduction of anxiety, nurse managers must apply the necessary psychological skill programs, in order to enhance psychological capabilities, improve nurses' resilience, and reduce coronavirus anxiety.","PeriodicalId":41766,"journal":{"name":"Neuropsychiatria i Neuropsychologia","volume":"500 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70465397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
