Various types of corporate social responsibility ( CSR ) are perceived different ly by parties associated with those activities because CSR is driven by different motives. This study investigates how CSR activities – CSR activities concerning health and well-being of mothers and children – act as liaisons between business performance (brand attitude and loyalty) and social performance (children’s quality of life). A survey was conducted in Indonesia on 450 respondents–customers of firms in industries related to natural resources and in regards to children’s well-being. The data were considered via factor analysis and multiple regression analysis. The results show business, stakeholder, and moral motives. Brand attitude and loyalty can influence perceptions toward these motive. Further, these motives could increase or decrease social performance. Companies should consider the type of CSR activities to engage in because the activities can be perceived as being driven by different motives and have different impacts on social performance. This result suggests that companies can harmonize business aspects and social aspects of CSR in creating value.

Musings of thirty-six college students from three higher educational institutions in the Manila, Philippines were used to look at the constructs of physical appeal and its power to influence leadership. By thematically analyzing the musings of the students, the research found physical appeal concepts that are associated to leadership. The study revealed that the students perceive leadership in two ways: from “within” the leader such as skills and knowledge, and from the “outside” where leadership is associated to goals, to influences, and to authority. In terms of physical appeal, leaders are expected to possess physical beauty (kagandahang anyo). Moreover, leaders are seen as individuals who have good manners (kagandahang asal). Interestingly, the college students claimed that leadership should also be based on capacity (kakayanan) and connection (koneksyon). These findings revealed that leadership has its physical and ethical forms that help the students visualize their idealized national political leader.

Business sustainability from the point of view of human resource management (HRM) is a management and leadership philosophy about how people are most enable to contribute to success at their work by minimizing the negative impact of their work on the environmental and social factors and at the same time improving the financial factors in the organizations. This study is an empirical study conducted on 233 Indian manufacturing firms operating in the Karnataka region to investigate the role for HRM in business sustainability. The role for HRM in business sustainability is studied with the construct HRM strategic integration in business sustainability strategy. Further, this study focuses on the way HRM incorporates sustainability in its practices in the organization and its impact on the organizational performance. The data are analyzed using SEM, and the results revealed the significance of the relationship of the HRM strategic integration of sustainability strategy with the organizational performance. The organizational performance studied with respect to the three factors of business sustainability viz., profit, people, and planet. Further, these relationships are tested with contingency factors, age of the firm, and the number of employees for its significance in this relation. The empirical evidence of the study shows a significant positive relation of organizational performance when HRM has strategic integration in business sustainability strategy. Model I4C is derived to show the role for HRM in business sustainability.

This study aims to analyze the effects of social capitalmnamely structural, relational, and cognitive dimensionsmon crowdfunding performance usingKitabisa.com as a case study for 2013-2015. Using robust ordinary leastnsquares methods, we find two important results. Structural dimension, which isnmeasured by Facebook friends owned by an entrepreneur, affects crowdfundingsuccess. The cognitive dimension, which is measured by the number of wordsthat are written by entrepreneurs in the platform, also affects crowdfundingopportunities in order to wage a successful campaign. Using logistic regressiontechnique, this study finds the same result, namely that the structural dimensionand cognitive dimension have a positive relationship to the performance ofcrowdfunding. From a logistic regression, we can conclude that the number ofFacebook friends and the amount of words to describe the project significantlypositively influence the chances of success of the project; the more the number offriends and the number of words on a project, the greater chance of a project toachieve success. This study concludes Facebook friends owned by entrepreneurand number of words affect positively crowdfunding opportunities toward asuccessful campaign.

This study aims to delineate the key socio-emotional needs important for voice behavior. To do this, we examine individual and contextual factors as mechanisms underlying how psychological ownership and perceived support influence employee voice behavior. Employing survey research of 210 employees from two big companies in Indonesia, analyses revealed that perceived supervisor support had direct and indirect effects on voice behavior, and job-based psychological ownership is a crucial mediator of the relationship between organization-based psychological ownership and perceived supervisor support on voice behavior. Path analysis offered further support for the complete model (χ = 4.25, df = 3, P-value = 0.235, RMSEA = 0.045). The present study contributes to current understanding by demonstrating that psychological ownership (i.e., an individual characteristic) and perceived supervisor support (i.e., a contextual characteristic) dynamically affect voice behavior. We discuss implications for research on voice behavior by highlighting key drivers to support employees’ emotional needs that are essential for voice behavior. 2

With a robust recent history of reform and opening, joining of the World Trade Organization, and negotiating a myriad of regional and global trade agreements, Vietnam has emerged as a promising destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) and cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A). In this paper, we provide an overview of Vietnam’s inbound mergers and acquisitions and review the two main driving forces of inbound M&A, which are the legal framework reform process and the equitization of State-owned enterprises. We close by providing directions for future research in the area of cross-border M&As.

This study investigates whether IT integration and company governance can affect the relationship between intellectual capital and company performance in the Indonesian banking sector. That could happen, as there are ever tighter and more numerous competitiveness levels in the banking sector, especially in the field of information technology (IT) and the support given by the top management. This study employs data from 33 banking companies listed on the ISE (Indonesian Stock Exchange) in 2013–2014. The testing was done on the elements of VAIC TM (VACA, VAHU, STVA), moderated by IT strategy integration (ITSI) and corporate governance (DK) using the measurement of financial performance (ROA). The findings obtained show that VAHU has a positive effect on financial performance. If the VAIC TM element were moderated by ITSI, then a well-integrated IT strategy would weaken the relationship between VACA and banking performance. The limitations of this study lie in the period of the data used, which is limited to 2013–2014, and in that the component used for testing was done in isolation.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) contribute substantially to the economic development, income generation, poverty reduction, and particularly job creation for both developed and developing economies. However, compared with large firms, SMEs face several challenges related to their performance and competitiveness. The role of human capital (HC) and human resource practices (HR Practices) in enhancing SMEs competitiveness and performance is vital but understudied areas. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the role of HC development between the relationship of high-performance work systems (HPWS) and export-oriented SMEs performance. Quantitative strategy and cross-sectional survey method was used to collect data from 205 managerial staff through a self-administered structured questionnaire. HPWS had a significant positive impact on export-oriented SMEs performance. The findings of the study provide evidence that HC development plays a mediating role between HPWS and enterprises performance.

The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between corporate governance (CG), corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure, and economic consequences. Broadly speaking, the CG variables consist of ownership structure and management/control structure. The CSR disclosure variables consist of economic, environmental, social, human rights, societal, and product responsibility dimensions. The economic consequences variables consist of bid-ask spreads, trading volume, and share price volatility. The hypotheses are tested using a structural equation modeling analysis with 210 samples of listed firms on the Indonesian Stock Exchange in 2014. The result of this study is as follows: (1) the effect of the proportion of board of directors from the board of commissioners and the audit committee on the CSR disclosure is positive and significant; (2) the effect of the proportion of independent commissioners and the audit committee from the board of commissioners, the audit committee, and the board of directors on CSR disclosure is positive and significant; and (3) the effect of CSR disclosure on trading volume is positive and significant. The main implication of this study is that CSR disclosure activities have a very important role in meeting stakeholders' interests and ensuring the sustainability of the company long-term. In addition, CSR disclosure is considered to be an assertion of a company’s brand differentiation, which means obtaining operating licenses both from the government and society, and the company’s risk management strategy.
