From the beginnings of our history women and peace have been closely linked. This union has been especially important in the case of the peace movement, which have ever counted with a huge presence of women. Due to this special connection between women and peace, even there has been formed many women peace movements. In these women movements nonviolence has been the best way to achieve their goals and to announce their purposes in a very original and creative way. Nonviolent methodologies are, therefore, one of the most interesting and unknown aspects of these movement. This is why we decided to focus our research in the nonviolent methodologies of four peace movements from different countries (Serbia, Colombia, United States and Liberia). Our aim was to identify, analyze, describe and systematize their nonviolent methodologies, as well as compare them and inquire into their results.

Intercultural conflicts, when they explode, are not limited to the sphere of the economy or traditions, but affect retroactively on cultural, political and religious ones. It is therefore imperative to intervene with long-term educational strategies, based on a mutual exchange of cultural values, rather than just the enjoyment of welfare system goods and services. For this purpose, the article introduces the worth as the “pull-factor” of the value, and from where it draws a new pattern of coexistence based on shared values addressed to both migrants and indigenous people. The model runs on a multidimensional approach: forming so that each person consciously seizes his own worth (Narrative Method); Identifying the rules of the social context that hamper or speed up the dialogue between holders of different worth (Ethno-methodological Method); Making each ones’ worth “speak to each other”, so that each individual comes into the viewpoint of the other while at the same time absorbs something from the other without losing his individuality (Dialogic Method); Moving up from the worthiness to the values of the other as a launching pad toward shared values (Ethno-methodological Method); Activating vertical bonds without frontiers (linking bonds) by developing competences to interact in divergent contexts (Conflict Management Method); and involving Educational Centers and local policy, which serve to provide ethical and participatory incentives in order to prevent dispersion of the outcome of otherness and the axiological mind that is forming in the classroom (Discursive Method).

The emergence of the Information Technologies and Communication have led to a profound structural change involved new ways to engage in peer conflict behaviors. This article presents a review of bullying and cyberbullying, and the relationship between them, from a psycho-socio-educational perspective. With the aim of studying the continuity of processes of cyberbullying, we present the first results from three descriptive studies. The first, analyzes the origin of the cyberbullying from primary education, providing comparative data on 2197 students aged 10 to 18 years of primary education and secondary education. The second, studies the continuity of the cyberbullying from school to University, presenting the results of incidences in a sample of 243 students. The third study, analyzes the situation in college students in a sample of 154 future educators. The results suggest that cyberbullying behavior is occurring since primary education and can persist until the university. The consequences of the harassment and the measures of prevention and intervention being taken in various countries are presented.

This text presents the results of a long-term research project that was done about the experiences of conflict resolution and Indigenous, intercultural and autonomous justice in Mexico. The main focus is on the analysis of the System of Community Security, Justice and Re-education of the Costa Chica and Montana regions of Guerrero, and of the Zapatista justice process in the Selva Fronteriza Zone of Chiapas. These experiences are made relevant within the national context and are made visible by a situation of widespread violence that is connected to the conflict between State security forces, different groups of organized crime, and extractives companies, over the control of territory, resources and both legal and illegal sectors of the economy. In that context, it is of fundamental importance the research on and dissemination of these experiences take place. Both processes should work from social and cultural contexts that differ from the dominant system with the aim of modifying the structural framework of violence on a local level, in search of a positive transformation of the conflict. Although the responses of the Indigenous and intercultural systems of justice are limited in their powers when faced with new manifestations of violence that characterize the states of Chiapas and Guerrero, they represent viable alternatives to the ruling impunity and corruption of the policing and justice institutions of Mexico.

The permanence of jews in Sicily lasted, in a pacific balance with the other peoples, for almost a millennium and a half until the end of the Middle Ages, when, with the 1492 Granada edict, the sovereigns of Spain, Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon, extended the expulsion order even to the island. Since then a curtain of oblivion was lowered on the presence of Jews in Sicily and on their precious cultural contribution to the development of the Sicilian identity; only for a few years, after centuries of silence and damnatio memoriae , there has been an increasing interest in the research in this field. The present work wants to bring to the memory and witness the jewish presence in Sicily through the study of the synagogue of Sciacca, recently identified in the urban center, of which there is still little and fragmentary information.

For more than fifty years, Colombia experienced an internal conflict armed with guerrillas and paramilitaries. This, according to some studies, contributed to reduce the opportunities for economic growth. Given the consolidation of a peace agreement with the guerrilla group, the FARC, expectations and fears have been raised about the country’s course in a post-conflict environment, especially in the regions where the armed actions of the conflict made them more vulnerable. This article analyzes the impact of the conflict in the Colombian Caribbean, relating the criminal acts in function of the regional Gross Domestic Product [GDP]. It also reflects on the problems of institutionality derived from the conflict. It is found that for each attack carried out by the guerrillas, the regional GDP decreases by 0.3%; and if the attacks are caused by the paramilitaries, this is reduced by 0.1%. The article presents a review of the strategies and policies implemented in some countries with post-conflict agreements. The results and reflections point to the need to think post-conflict beyond the cessation of the use of weapons with a search for positive peace in order to assume the new risk implemented in the current ways in which the new civilizing spaces are built.

The following article serves as a summary of a Master’s Degree thesis whose main purpose was to introduce Oscar Lopez Rivera as a prominent figure of the contemporary Peace Culture studies; in turn, this will take the claims for Lopez Rivera’s release to every corner of the world, starting with the spanish community. Following a walk through the colonial History of the island of Puerto Rico and the life of Lopez Rivera as a fierce defensor of the cause for the Caribbean territory’s independence, an analysis of the discourse will present the political prisoner as a symbol of resistance for the nonviolent movement in the Island. The vindication of Oscar Lopez Rivera will be demonstrated through the analysis of newspaper articles, letters written by the social activists, as well as an autobiographical text titled Between torture and resistance . We will observe how the fight for Oscar Lopez’s liberation has helped unite Puerto Rican community under one cause, putting aside political and religious ideologies. At the beginning of this year (2017), before ending his term in office, president Barack Obama commuted the 70 years sentence of this national hero who will be sitting next to the sea once more, after 36 years in prison. Oscar Lopez Rivera’s official release on May 20th will validate the struggle of a people that has resisted the North American empire.
