Historically, the province of Cordoba was one of the wealthiest territories in the region of Andalusia, Spain, and left behind a rich heritage that is still largely unknown. Our research team has studied this cultural heritage and developed initiatives for its digitization that have been very successful in transmitting these assets to society. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, the projects have proven to bring numerous socio-economic benefits. In this paper, we discuss the virtualization of this heritage and present the results of the various digital interventions carried out in the province of Cordoba to consolidate a digital landscape that is publicly accessible. © 2021. The pandemic and post-pandemic scenario makes it urgent to reflect on potentials of digital transition for Cultural Heritage in order to boost critical awareness and to democratise art supporting the heritage communities and the common goods. Nowadays, digital facsimiles can be considered as heritage itself, including the so called born digital heritage, whose processes, methods and evolution over time, have to be preserved and reused as a potential source of knowledge for future generations. This issue collects positions in favor of a scientifically based ‘digital culture’ and to bring together best practices in the definition of digital transformation strategies for museum and cultural heritage. It also reports some theoretical-methodological reflections as well as success cases applications in the field of DCH, assessing the scientific reliability, technical feasibility and economic sustainability of outstanding experiences. © 2021.

This paper focuses on enabling strategies to enhance the military landscape of the Galla Placidia Line by stressing all opportunities offered by digital technologies in the field of cultural heritage. The proposed solutions have been implemented as part of an ongoing project funded by the Emilia-Romagna region and Ravenna municipality, which supports a conscious digital transition of cultural sectors as a new way of understanding, enjoining and preserving historic architectures and sites. Assumptions and aims of the research also face the pressure the entire planet is experiencing due to Covid-19 pandemic. First, this study describes the fortified system of German bunkers erected along the Adriatic coast during World War II, highlighting its limits and potential and framing the research background;then, it presents the tested digital tools pointing out their positive effects on processes of knowledge, conservation and enhancement of such a dissonant heritage. © 2021. After the outbreak of Covid-19, galleries and museums have been experimenting with new ways to engage a potential audience remotely. This study focuses on the level of engagement of virtual tours in museums looking at the representation of architectural space, representation artifacts, and ease of use as possible correlated factors. A sample group of eighty early-career experts in the field of art, architecture, or design assessed their visit to the archaeological museum of Troya Müzesi in Çanakkale, Turkey;half of the participants resided in Turkey, while the other half in Italy. This paper has addressed the following research questions with an online multi-level study: how is the online exhibition platform evaluated by its audience? Can regular employment of virtual tours engage new visitors in the long term? Is the representation of a museum, in the form of a virtual twin, an adequate surrogate that creates an immersive visiting experience? © 2021. All Rights Reserved.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused service disruptions in numerous sectors of human activity. Museums and cultural institutions have unfortunately been among them. However, the emergency has put insiders in a position to find solutions to make the works usable in digital mode, applying research and technologies that have been the subject of research over the last twenty years. In this contribution, a case study will be considered related to an archaeological site museum of a Roman villa, which suffered from usability problems long before the pandemic. Some possible interventions will be listed to improve readability and communication with potential visitors. © 2021. All Rights Reserved.

The case-study analysed and discussed in this paper, IN LOCO – The Widespread Museum of Abandonment , offers an example of urban and cultural regeneration project as driver for economic, environmental and social development. The project has been designed as a process of permanent urban and cultural regeneration of abandoned places with the aim to raise an awareness and cultural knowledge on these forgotten places, and to connect them through a series of itineraries that testify the social, cultural and economic evolutions of a territory and a society in a permanent state of transition. Furthermore, the paper presents how, with the support of the EU research project gE.CO , the contents and tools of IN LOCO have the ambition to build a platform capable to trigger effective processes of place-making, participation and finally regeneration for city-makers, local communities and public administrations.

The research analyzes the use of immersive reality for the involvement of citizens in codesign paths. The aim of the study is to analyze how, through the potential of digital simulation, it is possible to reactivate a path of re-appropriation of the public space as a place of projection of one's identity. The foundation of the research is the observation of the new role of digital squares and the will of involving the youth, increasingly detached from these decision-making processes, in participatory processes. In the anthropological interpretation of the “homo laudens” so structural in the liquid society, the project proposal is configured as a sort of game, where it is possible to transform space into multiple configurations. The pervasive capacity of digital representation thus defines a participation of meanings and it enhances, also with a playful approach, the logic of information and awareness that today are the foundation of the Internet of People and the multidimensional living.

The article presents the results of research on the former monastery-hospital of San Pietro in Luco di Mugello, studied from a historical point of view and analyzed by means of an integrated survey. The aerial photogrammetry with drone and the laser scanner survey have made it possible to investigate the architectural complex in depth even by virtually entering it. The representation obtained presents a millimetric correctness necessary in confirming the stratigraphic investigation and useful for defining the current state in which it is located. The study was aimed at revaluing the architecture and blocking the advanced state of degradation, the result of poor maintenance and abandonment of the last decades, providing a useful basis also for a hypothesis of reuse of the structure.
