Participation in social networking sites offers many potential benefits for university students. Online interaction on these sites provides various opportunities for them to learn and improve self-control, tolerate and respect the viewpoints of others, express emotions in healthy and orderly ways, and think and make decisions critically. These sites also provide them with a virtual space to execute time, form close connections with friends without being spatially restricted and provide space for young people’s self-development. However, the number of studies examining university students’ social networking sites, media literacy, and critical thinking is very limited in the literature. Therefore, this research examined the effects of motivation to use social networking sites on students’ media literacy and critical thinking. The research also examined the relationships between students’ motivation for using social networks, media literacy, and critical thinking. The data were collected using three data collection instruments. The participants were 211 university students enrolled at two universities in Bangkok, Thailand. The results showed significant positive correlations between motivation to use social networking sites, and critical thinking, that university students with better performance in information and learning show better performance in critical thinking and reflection skills. The results also showed remarkable positive correlations between motivation for using social networking sites and media literacy, indicating that university students with better performance in information and learning show better performance in multimedia messages and multimedia organization and analysis. In addition, the results also revealed positive correlations between critical thinking and media literacy. The implications are made based on the results obtained from this research.

The connection between academic performance and crime has been proven in many studies, but there is a lack of recent literature documenting academic performance as a mediator between predictors and crime, especially in a large population that has grown up in the digital age of which the high frequency of communication exchange differentiates it from previous times. The present study aims to discover the mediating role of academic performance in the connections between each predictor (the Internet usage, biological sex, duration of sleep, fast food intake, medical history, alternate drug use, and illegal drug use) and crime using a large data set from the national longitudinal study of adolescent to adult health (>90,000 sample size). The bivariate correlation between each predictor and crime is presented, as well as the direct and indirect effects for each predictor on crime through academic performance as the mediator. The results highlighted that there is a significant relationship between the Internet usage with crime, a negative correlation of academic performance with crime and positive correlations of fast food intake, alternative medicine use, and illegal drug use with crime. In terms of mediation analyses, academic performance mediated the relationship between all the predictors (except for duration of sleep) and crime. Results may aid education policy makers in deterring crime in the digital age by improving academic performance while targeting its predictors.

This study utilized the health belief model (HBM) to investigate the association between the perceptions of COVID-19, adherence to healthy behaviors, and the credibility of COVID-19 information. This cross-sectional study utilized an online survey distributed to a random sample of graduate and undergraduate college students (N = 408) at a large public university in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study utilized two validated and reliable 5-point Likert scales to assess individuals’ perceptions of COVID-19 and the credibility of health messages promoted via various communication channels. Various statistical analyses, including Kruskal-Wallis H and Pearson correlation coefficient (r) tests, suggested a positive association between the credibility of COVID-19 information and the HBM and a positive association between the HBM and adopting COVID-19 preventive measures. Individuals perceived public health authorities as more credible sources of COVID-19 information than traditional and social media platforms. The study recommends that public health authorities convey tailored, effective, consistent, and transparent health messages via proper communication channels to persuade and motivate individuals to adopt healthy behaviors during future pandemics.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic plagued the globe, there has been an increased reliance on technology for teaching and learning. Technology has become essential for the continuity of the teaching and learning process at various levels of study. In this technology-based teaching and learning, various approaches can be used to help students master learning content. One approach that is often used is flipped learning, which requires students to explore learning content before the class begins. The objective of this research is to identify students’ acceptance of flipped learning in second language acquisition classes based on Google applications. This is a descriptive study, and a questionnaire was distributed to students to determine their level of acceptance. The questionnaire focused on content design aspects, flipped learning, and Google applications. Additionally, students were asked to provide their reflections after participating in this type of learning. This research involved 85 students in the final year of the bachelor of Arabic studies program at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin in Malaysia. The collected data from the questionnaire was then analyzed to determine the mean value for each item to determine the level of student acceptance. While reflective writing is studied by identifying themes related to student acceptance. The study’s findings indicate that students had a high level of acceptance for learning Arabic with flipped learning via Google application. The students’ reflections were also positive, with themes emerging around increased knowledge, improved technology handling skills, the formation of more creative and critical thinking skills, and the positive impact of group activities. Flipped learning has great potential for implementation because students are more prepared to follow the class. Google application is an excellent choice because it is user-friendly and easily accessible.

This study aims to assess the relationship between service value (SV), interactive value (IV), customer experience (CX), customer engagement (CE), and customer loyalty (CL) in the context of social media (SM) for domestic retail bank customers in Malaysia. The value-attitude-behavior model was used as the theoretical framework. To test this hypothesis, a partial least square structural equation model was used to analyze data from 181 active customers of domestic retail banks’ SM platforms. The results of the analysis indicate that CX and CE have a direct effect on CL. The study also found that CX and CE mediate the relationship between IV and CL, as well as SV and CL. The results highlight the importance of using SM platforms for value creation beyond just social interaction and the significance of IV, CX, and CE in digital platforms. Results also suggest that additional resources should be allocated to manage activities on these platforms to ensure that bank personnel can effectively design their SM strategies.

In the intricate domain of software systems verification, dynamically model checking multifaceted system characteristics remains paramount, yet challenging. This research proposes the advanced observe-based statistical model-checking (OSM) framework, devised to craft executable formal models directly from foundational system code. Leveraging model checking predicates, the framework melds seamlessly with aspect-oriented programming paradigms, yielding a potent method for the analytical verification of varied behavioral attributes. Exploiting the transformative capacity of OSM framework, primary system code undergoes a systematic metamorphosis into multifaceted analysis constructs. This not only simplifies the model verification process but also orchestrates feature interactions using an innovative observing join point abstraction mechanism. Within this framework, components encompassing parsing, formal verification, computational analytics, and rigorous validation are intrinsically interwoven. Marrying the principles of model checking with aspect-oriented (AO) modularization, OSM framework stands as a paragon, proficiently scrutinizing and affirming system specifications. This ensures the unyielding performance of electronic health record systems amidst shifting preconditions. OSM framework offers runtime verification of both object-oriented and AO deployments, positioning itself as an indispensable open-source resource, poised to automate the enhancement of system performance and scalability.

Gamification in the 21st century academic English grammar instruction is popular, but the lack of comparative studies on its effectiveness in online courses limits its scalability. This study aimed to address this problem by examining students’ experiences and outcomes in gamified grammar learning versus non-gamified learning in a fully synchronous online English course. The 12-week course involved 80 A1-A2 English learners, split into experimental (gamified) and control (non-gamified) groups. Data were collected through surveys, learning outcomes, and written reflections using a two-group design and the sequential explanatory research method. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, and bivariate correlations, while qualitative data underwent thematic analysis. The results indicate that gamified grammar instruction improved students’ experiences, motivation, enjoyment, and engagement while reducing anxiety. Gamification also led to better learning outcomes compared to traditional methods. However, there was a gap between perceived experiences and actual outcomes, emphasizing the need for caution in interpreting emotions as achievement indicators. Some obstacles, including technical issues, comprehension difficulties, and time constraints, were observed. The study recommends policies to facilitate the integration of gamification into the curriculum.
