Objective: To synthesize empirical research results about effectuation responses to crises with the intention of offering results that are already potentially useful for new research and the practice of entrepreneurs.Methodology/approach: With a systematic literature review (SLR), publications on the subject were mapped, highlighting mainly their contributions, but also registering their research methods, their foundations and the types of crises studied. The treated articles come from the Scopus and Web of Science article databases.Originality/value: Applying a thematic focus that was not yet used before, but that is necessary, the study contributes for the understanding of the entrepreneurial behavior supported on effectuation in crisis contexts.Main results: The SLR identified 14 articles dealing with three types of crises (financial, regarding health and natural crises) responded using effectuation indicating a tendency to the growth of the number of publications about the focused subject. Research needs and paths were characterized to be exploited in new researches.Theoretical/methodological contributions: Central contributions are the description of relations between the effectual principals (bird in hand, affordable loss, crazy quilt, lemonade, and pilot in the plane) and effectuation use in response to three types of crises and the synthetic characterization of relevant publications about the focused subject, which constitutes a facilitator for more researchers interested in the same subject.Social/management contributions: Social actors and managers can use the contents of this article to better understand how the response to crises using effectuation is being carried out in real situations studied in the identified articles of the SLR. This way, their repertoire of useful knowledge to more successfully act in entrepreneurship in the face of crises will be broader.

Purpose of the study: To analyze how Applied Social Sciences (ASS) field uses patent documents in articles, in addition to non-patent literature.Methodology/approach: A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was carried out, by selecting articles statistically analyzed regarding the year of publication, authors’ nationality and knowledge area. Articles from the ASS area which explore technical information of patent documents were qualitatively analyzed as for content and ways patent information was used.Originality/Relevance: The use of technical information present in patent documents is unusual in articles, in which bibliographic references prevail as the main data source. Knowledge fields with interdisciplinary profile lack specific studies.Main results: The results obtained point that the ASS area explores little technical patent information, with patentometric studies prevailing. Articles that explore technical information observe on average one patent document, with a matter description based on textual data obtained from the title or abstract.Theoretical/methodological contributions: Systematization of SLR selected articles that allowed performing relevant quantitative analysis to understand how ASS researchers use information obtained from patent documents (metric analysis or exploration of technical information) for the construction of scientific knowledge.Social Contributions/Management Contributions: Potential opportunity to offer actions and tools to help students and researchers towards exploring patent bases in order to select documents relevant to the research topic.

Objective: This research aims to develop an artifact that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can use to assess their network of relationships and identify partners for open innovation projects.Methodology/approach: The Design Science Research (DSR) method was used to create the artifact, which is based on a theoretical model that incorporates three mechanisms for analyzing interorganizational relationships: richness, receptivity, and reach. Three tests were run on the artifact during development. Afterwards, an evaluative test was conducted with four companies to determine whether the developed artifact met its objective and had good operation and presentation.Originality/value: In the absence of similar tools addressing the same class of problem, a new artifact was proposed, allowing SME managers to analyze their relationships and plan new open innovation projects.Main results: According to preliminary evaluations, the artifact is adequate for understanding which partners can participate in an innovation project and how to channel resources, however, it needs to be supplemented with other tools that allow knowing the partners.Theoretical/methodological contributions: As the research's main contribution, we present an operational artifact that is functional and well received by managers and has the potential to be used as an auxiliary tool in open innovation projects developed by SMEs.Social/management contributions: As an implication for the field of open innovation in SMEs, we consider the identification of the problem and the proposal of an artifact as a relevant formulation for raising new hypotheses and developing subsequent artifacts.

Purpose: This study aims to list the managerial implications arisen from an interaction between a brewery and a Brazilian government agency grounded in the Lean principles of value co-creation through a case study.Design/Methodology/Approach: Empirical data on the actors were collected through questionnaires with managers and documents shared as they were being filled out. Their content analysis was carried out according to Bardin (2011).Originality: This is the very first study carried out to evaluate the benefits reaped from an interaction between a brewery and a Brazilian government agency grounded in the Lean principles of value co-creation.Results: Managerial implications involved in value co-creation are elucidated in respect of agro-industrial services provided by the brewery and a Brazilian government agency. Thus, Integration Strategy, Protection mechanisms and Growth opportunity constitute key elements in networking orchestration while providing agro-industrial services.Theoretical and methodological contributions: The factors affecting information and knowledge were shared between partners for improving the brewery production chain. The concept of value co-creation allowed overcoming issues of innovation and providing the actors with better services.Management contributions: Once having identified the three basic elements of a successful cooperation, as well as managerial implications concerning the actors involved, this study assists managers and researchers in developing strategies to overcome the obstacles faced in the provision of agro-industrial services based on the Lean principles of value co-creation. Furthermore, supporting factors in making decisions towards value co-creation are exposed so as to stimulate innovation via value co-creation and network orchestration.

IntroductionThe International Journal of Innovation – IJI, since 2020, opened a section for publications of technological articles. From then on, we have been receiving articles to go through the blind double-review editorial process. Our intention with this editorial comment is to make the academic community, especially authors who consider the IJI for their submissions, have one more document option to assist in the elaboration and structuring of their technological research. In 2021, we published the editorial commentary entitled “What we expect from articles submitted to the IJI” which briefly addressed technology articles (Scafuto et al., 2021). Now, in this new editorial comment, we intend not only to bring the information previously discussed, but we want to deepen the discussions with other important elements to contribute to the development of technological articles. We understand that technological articles are assuming an increasingly important role within the academic community, as it is a way to bring together the challenges of organizations with academic research. It is worth remembering that the technological article is one of the twelve technical and technological products that are proposed and evaluated by CAPES (a Brazilian entity for higher education personnel improvement coordination). They are especially important for professional graduate programs in management and related fields. We, the editors of the IJI, recognize the importance of the contribution of professional programs. The IJI is a vehicle for the dissemination of this production to both members of the academic community and practitioners. In this editorial commentary we provide some suggestions for authors who may be interested in submitting their technological articles for evaluation at the IJI. We want to encourage this type of submission, but always in search of articles with quality and relevance for readers. Guidelines for building relevant technological articlesThe technological article is a form of publication that presents and discusses ideas, methods, techniques, processes, and results focused on solving practical problems (Motta, 2017). The technology article generally describes experiences in organizations. Despite describing these experiences, researchers must follow scientific and methodological rigor in writing (Biancolino et al., 2012). The technological article has an elaboration process similar to any other scientific process. We reinforce this scientific and technological rigor due to the nature of the IJI.In 2022, the editorial commentary of Business Horizons Magazine, by Greg Fisher, presents some interesting ideas in line with our perspective on technological articles (Fisher, 2022). Fisher presents three categories that technological articles generally fall into: past; present and future:Past-oriented articles use academic research already carried out and translate into ideas and practical applications for use, facilitating the understanding of
值得记住的是,技术文章是CAPES(巴西高等教育人员改进协调实体)提出和评估的十二种技术和技术产品之一。 CIMO是(Van Aken, 2007):Context(问题情境);Intervention(提出解决问题的干预措施);Mechanisms(描述如何处理问题的解决方案);Outcomes(客观地描述结果)。

Objective of the study: The subject of the study are participatory budgets – social innovations used by local municipalities to involve citizens in local budgetary decisions with roots in Brazil. The main objective was to determine how being part of a social network affects the decision to introduce participatory budgets made by municipalities in Poland, where a remarkable spread of the innovation has been observed since the early 2010s.Methodology: Spatial autocorrelation tests and visualizations were used to uncover clusters of communes with most similar or dissimilar characteristics.Originality/Relevance: Novelty of the study approach lies in the utilization of an own database – with the intention to overcome the problem of data insufficiency, typical of related research.Main results: The presence of spatial proximity-based peer effects was confirmed in the study. The concentration of innovators has remained spatially uneven, which is to be linked to e.g. the cross-regionally diverse forms of social capital. The data-based study design allows to explore participatory budgets as products of social networks and not only individual strategies, as evidenced by numerous case studies in the field.Methodological contributions: The study demonstrates the relevance of collecting longitudinal data for the development of research on participatory budgets.Social/management contributions: Insights from the study are of practical value for recent and future. adopters, wishing to understand the broader relevance of their policies, as well as for higher level policy-makers trying to better adapt their legal frameworks to the current and future waves of innovators.

Objective of the study: To analyze the relationship between predominant organizational culture and business innovation capacity in Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs).Methodology: Thirty MSEs were selected for this study. The organizational cultural model was identified through the OCAI questionnaire, and the modified innovation radar classified the degree of innovation. The D'Agostinho test (p0.01) and the Spearman correlation were used to evaluate normality and identify the relationship between the variables, respectively.Originality/Relevance: The OCAI questionnaire and the innovation radar are research tools that have not yet been used together in studies related to the context of MSEs, according to the narrative review of the literature conducted. Results: The organizational culture models predominant in the thirty companies participating in this work were identified as clan, hierarchical, and market types using the OCAI questionnaire. The results obtained indicate that the predominant organizational culture is complemented by characteristics of other cultures to a greater or lesser extent. Furthermore, most companies showed a low degree of innovation. We found a strong and positive relationship between the variables, i.e., the degree of innovation increases with the improvement of the organizational culture, prevailing in the context of the thirty MSEs studied.Theoretical/methodological contributions: This study's data collection and treatment structure can be replicated in other cities or regions.Social/Management Contributions: This study provides a framework for assessing the relationship between organizational culture and the degree of innovation in MSEs.
