Unipolar semiconductor injection lasers emitting at THz frequencies have been demonstrated. The devices, based on the quantum-cascade scheme in GaAs/AlGaAs superlattices, operate in continuous-wave up to 50 K (70 K pulsed) with output powers of several mW.

Channel selection for DWDM/SCM 60-GHz-band radio-on-fiber (ROF) signals by optical heterodyne detection with a dual-mode local light is investigated. Error-free detection of the DWDM/SCM ROF signals after 25-km-long SMF transmission and channel selection is demonstrated.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel technical approach for the implementation of photonic RF filters that is based on the p phase inversion that a RF modulating signal suffers in a EOM Mach-Zehnder modulator depending on whether the positive or the negative linear slope of its modulation transfer function is employed.

A technique to reduce the cost of photonic microwave filters based on WDM signals and dispersive media is presented. It allows to implement filters showing N/spl times/M taps using N+M components instead of N/spl times/M components, as required in previous proposals.

This paper shows a new way for the enhancement of high Q - low phase noise millimeterwave opto-electronic oscillator structure. The new configuration enables us to improve the oscillator's noise characteristics without the need for the utilization of especially expensive and sensitive elements (such as high Q filters, etc.).
