We present and design an erbium-doped fiber (EDF) ring laser with Rayleigh backscattering (RB) characteristic to accomplish stable tunability and single-longitudinal-mode (SMF) oscillation. Besides, the related laser output features are also discussed.

We demonstrate a radial basis function network equalizer for 112-Gb/s IM-DD PAM4 inter-datacenter transmissions with gain-clamped SOA pre-amplifiers. The results outperform VNLE and FFE in receiving sensitivity, dynamic range and BER with >4dB power margin.

InP membrane on silicon (IMOS) technology has shown high potential in realizing high-density photonic circuits with speed and energy benefits. Intrinsic active components offered by the InP membrane promise highest optoelectronic efficiencies. It can also be intimately integrated on electronics wafers with ultrashort interconnect lengths, paving a way towards the convergence of photonics and electronics.

This study investigates broadband microwave chaos generation based on period-one dynamics of semiconductor lasers. Chaotic microwaves with a spectral distribution of more than 45 GHz and a bandwidth of about 32 GHz are obtained.

This talk will review our recent work on a high-speed avalanche photodiode (APD). Recent results show 100-Gbit/s PAM4 40-km transmission with receiver sensitivity exceeding -14 dBm when the APD is combined with in-house SOA-integrated EML.
