We propose a pilot beam-assisted adaptive compensation method for atmospheric turbulence on beams carrying orbital angular momentum. Using the pilot beam having the same azimuthal index as the data beam considerably improves the compensation performances.

Atmospheric turbulence-induced fluctuation on orbital angular momentum beam is experimentally evaluated by air convection generated from heated soldering irons. The performance is measured by the OAM mode spectrum and its temporal evolution.
