Effectiveness of Digital Technology Tools in Teaching Pronunciation to Saudi EFL Learners 数字技术工具在沙特英语学习者发音教学中的有效性

The use of digital technology has become ubiquitous in every walsk of our lives. It has had a significant impact not only on social and technological aspects but also on educational areas, including (English) language teaching. Digital tools, the gift of new technologies, have proved to be an essential component of English Language Teaching (ELT). This study focused on finding out the efficacy of teaching pronunciation via digital tools (CDs, digital books, projectors, smart boards, and synchronous and asynchronous online materials) as opposed to traditional methods (printed materials, drilling, and imitating the teacher) to Saudi male EFL undergraduates. To investigate the differences, a quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest design (between-subjects) was used. The experimental and control groups (n = 25 in each group) were tested before and after the treatment n similar intra-sentential pronunciation activities at segmental (minimal pairs, word recognition, and consonant and vowel identification) and suprasegmental (stress patterns) levels. The results revealed that the participants in theexperimental group learned pronunciation significantly better than theparticipants in the control group. This means that if students are exposed to digital technology tools, they will learn pronunciation better in comparison to the conventional method of teaching. The study is significant for both teachers and learners as it may help them make use of digital technology tools to improve students’ pronunciation as well as their speaking skills.

Investigating the relationship between moral and ethical: Does extrinsicand intrinsic religiosity improve people’s mental health? 探究道德与伦理的关系:外在和内在的宗教信仰是否能改善人们的心理健康?

This study examines how religion affects people’s ethics and morals in both extrinsic and intrinsic dimension. In order to validate how religion and mental health are related, it also considers people's ethics and morals as mediator variables. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to validate the research hypotheses after recruiting 570 articipants. The result of this study showed that religiosity play important role on peoples’ ethics and morals, which subsequently influences their mental health. Additionally, people’s ethics and morals, as mediator play a beneficial effect in bridging the relationship between religion and mental health. It gives practitioners and scholars a chance to observe how religion and mental health interact with one another. Society and regulators also need to enhance communication and interaction. as well as educating people on the importance of ethics and moral principles from the social and religious fields. The recent study also contributes to literature in social and behavioral contexts towards religion, ethics, and the sociology.

Internal and External Barriers towards Sexual Harassment PreventionEfforts in the Workplace 职场性骚扰预防工作的内部和外部障碍

The paper delves into the investigation of the internal andexternal barriers toward female sexual harassment prevention inthe workplace. A survey was conducted with 289 employeescollected from different industries in Vietnam with thequestionnaires relevant to victims’ experiences and responsestoward sexual misconducts at work, and the internal-externalbarriers to deter the sexual harassment prevention. The in-depthinterviews were conducted to explore women’ expectationabout sexual harassment-free working environment-orientedpolicies in their workplace. The results revealed that victimsexperienced a wide range of sexual harassment types; thevictims, especially unmarried girls have experienced sexualharassment more than married women but have fewerresponses to the sexual misconduct. A low incidence of sexualharassment claims was also filed to authority due to variousbarriers, including internal and external ones. Through theinterviews, the victims manifested that the comprehensivechanges in sexual harassment law and social policies should beconsistently made to ensure human rights, and promptemployees’ efforts and contribution to work.

Identifying Metacognitive Listening Comprehension Strategies of Saudi ESP Students 沙特ESP学生元认知听力理解策略的识别

This research aims to find out the metacognitive listeningcomprehension strategies (MLCS) of 320 (178 males and 142females) Saudi English for Specific Purposes (ESP) studentsusing the Metacognitive Awareness Listening Questionnaire(MALQ) in a Preparatory Year Deanship. The descriptivestatistical analysis of the data showed that participants employedproblem-solving, directed attention, and person knowledge more(higher-moderately) than planning and evaluation and mentaltranslation (lower-moderately). For females, the dominant set wasproblem-solving, and for male participants, it was the directedattention sub-scale. The least preferred group by both genders wasmental translation. On the independent samples t-test, there wasno statistically significant difference between the means of sub-scales and the overall means of male and female ESP learners(except for mental translation). It implies that both sexes were notmuch different in using the MLCS while listening to ESP texts.They approximately used the strategies equally.Recommendations were made for students, instructors, andsyllabus designers to integrate explicit metacognitive instructionsfor preparing, planning, managing, monitoring, assessing, andreflecting on ESP listening activities.

The Impact of People's Business Credit Program, Minimum Wage, and Investment on Indonesian Poverty 人民商业信贷计划、最低工资和投资对印尼贫困的影响

Poverty is one of the serious problems inhibiting the nationaldevelopment process in Indonesia. It is usually measured for a personusing the benchmarked poverty line with the values observed to bedifferent between regions. This means some areas have a high povertyline while some have a low poverty line and this further influences thepoverty rate in the country. Therefore, this survey was conducted todetermine the impact of People's Business Credit (KUR), State MinimumWage (UMP) and investment on Indonesian poverty. Processes involvingthe use of secondary data over the period 2016-2021analyzed by multipleregression analysis using a panel data approach and E-views. The resultsshowed that KUR and investment do not have a significant influencewhile UM has a significant effect on poverty alleviation.

Personal Growth, Resilience and Burden of Care among Single Parents 单亲家庭的个人成长、韧性与照顾负担

This study was intended to examine the relationship betweenpersonal growth, resilience, and burden of care among singleparents and role of resilience as mediator between personalgrowth and burden of care. 100 single parents (M=37, F=63)took part in this study. For data compilation, the personalgrowth initiative scale-II, brief resilience scale, and burdenscale of family caregivers were used. The results demonstratedthat personal growth has a substantial positive correlation withresilience and negative correlation with burden of care.Furthermore, resilience significantly mediated the relationshipbetween personal growth and burden of care. Findingsevidenced that there are no significant gender differences. Thepresent study will be useful in creating awareness among singleparents to manage their stressors effectively.

This study aimed to explore a group of teachers'perspectives on the effectiveness of online professionaldevelopment programs in the Saudi English context. Toachieve this main research objective, a five-point Likertscale with 21 items belonging to four essential dimensionswas carried out on 537 English teachers using the snowballsampling method. The data was collected online through aGoogle Form-generated link. The study's findings revealedthat English teachers' perceptions of the effectiveness ofonline professional development programs presented tothem during the pandemic of Covid-19 were relatively high.No statistically significant differences were found due togender, age, experience, or qualifications regarding teachers'perceptions of the effectiveness of online professionaldevelopment programs. However, there were statisticallysignificant differences in the efficiency of these programsbetween teachers who have attended these programs andthose who have not in favour of the former. On the basis ofthese findings, limitations and recommendations were putforward.

To\u0000achieve this main research objective, a five-point Likert\u0000scale with 21 items belonging to four essential dimensions\u0000was carried out on 537 English teachers using the snowball\u0000sampling method. The data was collected online through a\u0000Google Form-generated link. The study's findings revealed\u0000that English teachers' perceptions of the effectiveness of\u0000online professional development programs presented to\u0000them during the pandemic of Covid-19 were relatively high.\u0000No statistically significant differences were found due to\u0000gender, age, experience, or qualifications regarding teachers'\u0000perceptions of the effectiveness of online professional\u0000development programs. However, there were statistically\u0000significant differences in the efficiency of these programs\u0000between teachers who have attended these programs and\u0000those who have not in favour of the former. Chemistry Lesson Plan Design and Teaching: A Case Study of SeniorSecondary Schools in the Urban Regions of the Gambia 化学课程计划设计与教学——以冈比亚城市地区高中为例

This study aimed to understand chemistry lesson plan design and teaching atsecondary schools with 14 teachers and 282 students, grade 11, throughRandomized Post-test Control Group Design, placed in each experimental andcontrol group. The experimental group was taught using multifunctionalapproaches, social constructivism, and laboratory experimentations. Thecontrol group was taught using traditional methods and laboratoryexperimentations, focusing on concepts of acids, bases, and salts. Indicatorssuch as lesson topic, objectives, activities, evaluations, and conclusions werethematically reviewed, while teaching categories such as lesson organisation,activities teaching, pedagogical approaches, collaborative learning, teacher-student interaction, instructional resources, and students' academic performancewere quantitatively analysed. Descriptive statistics were used to obtainfrequency per cent (%), weighted mean, and standard deviation. The findingshows that teachers were knowledgeable about designing a chemistry lessoneven though they followed the same trajectory and were inadequately prepared.In addition, only pedagogical approaches and instructional resources weremoderately utilised among the teaching categories. Further, students in theexperimental group performed better academically, as measured by their meandifference (12.121), significant (t = 6.142, p =.000), which may be attributed toparadigm-shifting from teacher-centred to the students-centred, instructionalresources, students’ ability, and motivation. Therefore, the current lesson plandesign as a case study in the chemistry classroom implies that effective lessonplans and teaching can lead to better learning of core competencies in theGambian context if they were to be monitored and improved extensively.However, a further study may be needed by comparing the difference betweenpre-test and post-test scores, as this will indicate a better measure

Demographic and Socio-economic Characteristics Impact on Fertility in Pakistan 巴基斯坦人口和社会经济特征对生育率的影响

Fertility is the actual reproductive performance of an individual, a couplewhich determines the country’s population size. Pakistan is the 5th mostPopulus country in the world with high fertility rate in regional countries.The trustworthy secondary data were taken from National Institute ofPopulation Studies, Pakistan and analyzed. The mean and standarddeviation of children ever born (CEB) was estimated 3.2±2.41. Poissonand logistic regression models were applied to study the substantial role ofeight socio-economic and demographic variables regarding CEB. Poissonregression illustrated that contraceptive and length of marriage positivelycorrelated with CEB, whereas the women education, age at marriage andwealth index showed an inverse relationship with CEB. The womeneducation i.e., illiterate, primary education, secondary education andhigher education is 50%, 13.9%, 20.8% and 15.3% and the correspondingmean CEB are 2.73, 2.48, 2.34, and 2.16, respectively. The logisticregression model demonstrated the negative relation between the oddsratio and women education and age at marriage while the family size andlength of the marriage were found to be positively correlated. If therespondent remains married for 10+ years, the odds ratio of having a largefamily is increased by a factor of 21.352 keeping the effect of othervariables kept constant. The fitted parsimonious logistic regressionmodel’s correct classification for small family, large family and overall are82.3%, 83% and 82.7% respectively. The findings, thus, have enormousimplications for the Government and Population welfare Departmentsabout policies formulations

An excellent online learning platform requires a success model inits utilization. During the pandemic, a new adjustment (newnormal) was needed in the educational field. It was initiated byproviding numerous online learning platforms. Therefore, thereare only a few successful model evaluations. Thus, this researchaims to (1) determine the effect of Microsoft (MS) Teams and (2)develop a successful model as an online learning platform inVocational High Schools (SMK). This research used aquantitative approach with the PLS-SEM technique in the dataanalysis. The collection of data was also carried out via the use ofa questionnaire, with a total sample of 430 participants (85teachers and 345 students) using MS Teams at Vocational HighSchools. The results showed that four factors were significantlyaffecting the success of MS Teams, and these includes theinformation & system qualities, use, and user's satisfaction.However, these findings were based on the factors which wereinsignificant to the success of the MS Teams. It was also reportedthat the factors that supported the MS Teams' operation includedthe Internet and software specifications. Moreover, additionalobservations also indicated that one of the supporting factors(SF2) was considered invalid.
