Food adulteration has become a concern for consumers and food safety authorities. Milk is a commune adulterated food product, like melamine adulteration, which resulted in devastating effects, especially on young children. Because of the current fast paste economy, it is essential to develop equally fast analysis methods to ensure reliable and sensitive results quickly with little to no sample preparation. For that purpose, a Raman method was developed and Partial least squares regression (PLS) was applied in order to develop a model for adulterated goat milk detection. Minitab 17 software was used for the statistical modeling of data. Validation matrices were constructed using unadulterated goat milk and goat milk adulterated with cow milk in different proportions (0-50%). The prediction model had a correlation coefficient of 99.8 %.

For reducing the carbon print electrical energy storing is essential. The current political agenda is high on environmental, economic, and social consequences of the battery fabrication technology and safety, recyclability, and all environmental consequences. The European Union (EU) has proposed a new Battery Regulation that intends to ensure sustainability for batteries placed on the EU market, developing a robust European battery industry and value chain. This study consists in providing information regarding the new trends and studies for new technologies regarding the development of batteries construction and use.

Considering the global socio-economic context, the pressure on natural resources and of course the effects that exploitation has on natural ecosystems and fauna is more and more evident. The use of renewable energy sources, together with improvements in energy efficiency, can help reduce energy consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and, consequently, prevent dangerous climate change. The integration of renewable energy sources in urban areas and in everyday life is a viable solution. The present paper focuses on the presentation of small-scale wind systems integrated in urban areas and not only to capitalize any energy as efficiently as possible.

When it comes to pollutants in the aquatic environment, there is a wide variety of products, from fibers and plastics to food and medicinal compounds and their by-products. Pollutants have been an area of interest for decades and are becoming more popular with each passing year, whether their presence and effects are studied separately by class or in combination. Among all, polymeric materials are in the center of attention, and their presence in the environment has long been established with studies on their harmful effects. Improper disposal of pharmaceutical materials is just one of many ways that lead to their accumulation in water and soil. The worldwide spread in the environment of polymeric materials, as well as pharmaceutical pollutants is described by the literature, but also the effects of these two materials separately in terms of the behavior of zebrafish (Danio rerio). In this paper, we studied the "joint effect" of one polymeric material (polypropylene) and one pharmaceutical product (methionine - one of the essential aminoacids of the body, with antioxidant properties and multiple uses in the pharmaceutical field). Although we did not find many significant differences in terms of behavior, one aspect worth noting was the anxiolytic-like effect of microplastic on the social, and stress related behavior of zebrafish.

Fast technological growth, the lack of civic responsibility regarding e-waste recycling, storage, and disposal, the lack of many years of specific legislation, and the lack of solutions to manage e-waste have led to an accelerated increase in environmental pollution. Besides pollution, other aspects, such as the depletion of natural resources, must be considered regarding e-waste, especially minerals and metals. Efficient waste management programs aim to recover the essential components of e-waste and to dispose of the others safely. A case study was applied on several boards from computer hard drives that were intended for testing if Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometry (SEM/EDX) can be used to identify in a quick and eco-friendly manner the metals from e-waste multi-circuit boards. The results confirm that SEM/EDX can successfully replace the traditional method for metal determination, the first step in establishing the recovery methods.

The integration of renewable power supplies in urban areas and their integration in everyday life is the new trend for the latest research. By using renewable power supplies combined with the latest improvements regarding energy efficiency can help reduce energy consumption, greenhouse gas effect and toxic emissions. This paper presents the latest research in PV systems integration within cities. Urban areas have an unexplored potential for decentralized power production. PV systems are affordable and require minimal maintenance, thus making them suitable for such applications.

Since 2000, the synthetic cannabinoids drug market is in a continuous expansion and development. Unfortunately, addictive trends include not only the adult population but also adolescents. The new synthetic cannabinoids compounds have similar effects as the Cannabis plant, but are more potent and present a higher risk for consumers. Globally, the fight against drug production, distribution and use involves several directions, including the development of new analytical tools able to identify these new illicit substances. The aim of this paper is to present a systematic review regarding the class of cannabinoids in terms of their physico-chemical properties and biological effects.

The article aims to highlight one of the highest environmental issues, caused by pollution with persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). This form of environmental pollution with a negative impact on human health would not be possible without the use of high voltage industrial electrical equipment with dielectric fluids infested with various PCB isomers. In order to carry out the experimental program, samples of dielectric fluids both from Romania and Indonesia were investigated. The PCBs-containing samples were characterized using GC-ECD technique, employing an Agilent 7890 gas chromatograph equipped with a 15 mCi 63Ni µECD detector. PCBs concentrations were calculated using the standard calibration method based on the internal standard according to the corresponding normative documents. Ongoing work is carried out to adapt the technique for the analysis of PCBs in soils contaminated with oil products.

This paper presents the problem of soil pollution in the vicinity of a former chemical plant, given that production activity was stopped for more than thirty years ago. The old chemical plant was located in the southern part of Braila town, SE Romania, just a few kilometers from the left bank of the Danube River. Prior to 1990, there was a significant production of industrial chemical goods, such as sulfuric acid, carbon dioxide for synthetic fibers, chlorine gas and hydrochloric acid obtained by electrolysis processes with mercury electrodes and heavy metal catalysts (Cd, Ni, Zn), sodium sulfide and sulphate, etc. For the good development of the experimental program, a number of 10 soil samples were collected from the north, northwest, west, southwest and south of the former chemical plant. The multi-element analysis method used to determine the trace elements in the soil samples was energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRF), using a Genius XRF portable spectrometer manufactured by Skyray Instruments Inc., equipped with a large surface Si with a Be window and a 40 kV/100 µA miniature X-ray tube excitation source with Ag target. The spectrometric system has an energy resolution up to 139 eV, and the detection limits of the order of ppm. A total of 21 chemical elements were identified in the target soil samples, such as: K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Hg, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Sn, Sb, Pb. The compositional analyses of contaminated industrial soils were completed by using the AAS and ICP-MS high performance and selectivity techniques.
