Although they are not often in explicit conversation with each other, several scholarly contributions about the otherwise and grace, respectively, echo each other in striking ways. In this article, the author explores some of these echoes. Assembling theoretically various approaches to the otherwise and grace allows him to show that they both tread on similar theopolitical paths, and to identify three points on which they converge: excess, incarnation and turbulence. The article is structured around these three confluences. Each section begins with a description of a particular way of approaching the otherwise, which is then compared with a similar way of approaching grace. Each section concludes with reflections on the spaces of convergence thus identified, and it is argued that they constitute promising sites for the deployment of a 'theopolitical analytics' in anthropology.

This short article suggests that the writings of the recently deceased anthropologist David Graeber have a great deal to contribute to the study of religion. Drawing from a wide array of works by Graeber and his collaborators, the article sketches out his basic social theory, focusing on his insistence on the creative dimension of human social activity. It then focuses on the relevance of religion – specifically, the fabrication and modification of ‘metahuman persons’ – for the creation of new social forms. Finally, the implications of this theoretical framework are sketched out – that is, that the study of religion should focus on its creative and imaginative aspects.

Yann Schmitt
In this article, we propose to read Albert Piette’s La religion de près from a philosophical perspective, in order to lay the foundations for a « philosophy of religion de près ». In his 1999 book, Piette pursues two aims : to describe the life of a parish to show how actions make it possible to make God present, and to defend an epistemology of anthropology that focuses on the beings that are present, and thus on ontology. It is by reflecting on the fruitfulness and limits of this project that a philosophy of religious belief can be presented, since the confrontation between philosophy and anthropology makes it possible to clarify the use of the concept of belief and the status of ontology.
