the leading place in professional and scientific exchange and achievements. Without the use of the English language the outcomes of scientific, industrial, academic and cultural breakthroughs seem impossible. Thus, nowadays we face the necessity to provide students with the knowledge and skills not only in General English, but also in English for Specific Purposes (ESP), so that university graduates could communicate with their foreign colleagues on professional issues, broaden their knowledge due to using foreign materials and literature, publish their works abroad. Our aim is to identify the main aspects that should be paid attention to and taken into consideration while teaching, specifically teaching English at Higher Educational Establishments in order to achieve better results and succeed in preparing future professionals of high level with appropriate moral qualities. Therefore, the object of our study is contemporary trends and problems in the theory of foreign language teaching methodology which can provide such results in modern conditions.

ION IN THE FINE EXPLORATION OF ODESSA The paper is a study that comprehensively examines abstract artistic expression in the context of artistic culture of Odessa, it is analyzed the premise of the emergence, formation, and features of the manifestations of the abstraction in the fine arts of this South-Ukrainian cultural center. It is offered a new view of abstraction as a unique artistic form, based on universal cultural codes that operate from the past to the present. The methodological and theoretical concept of this research determined the complex approach and consisted in applying the system-analytical and comparative-historical method in the studied features of the development of abstract elements in the Fine Arts of Odessa’s cultural and artistic region. It is provided objective representations and knowledge about the reliability of their properties, features, content, and dynamics of their development. In this context, the formal method used to analyze the artistic achievements of Odessa artists in the sphere of Abstract Art. The analysis of the processes of formation and manifestations of abstraction in the art practices of the Odessa region demonstrates a stylistic connection to the heritance of Ukrainian Folk Culture, Ancient Artistic Culture and is based on the assets of the Ukrainian Avant-Garde. It is noted the interdependence of spatial and temporal relations, having certain milestones of activation in development and conditioned by socio-political processes. Scientific novelty of the study consisted of a new view to abstraction as a transhistorical style of art, which expresses the centuries-old ethnocultural and artistic experience of generations. It is expanded the established inferences of domestic and foreign art studies, which connect it with manifestations of abstractionism as one of the directions of the art of modernism. Practical significance is due to the expansion and deepening of the theoretical and methodological basis for the scientific research of the modernization processes that take place in contemporary culture and the Non-Objective Art.

texts (text blocks) encountered in prior experience. Intertextuality in perfume and cosmetic text constructions may be represented in three different models. The first model happens when the brand text block is common for text constructions. The second model takes place when the brand text block and the genitive text block are common for text constructions. The third model is realized when the brand text block and the basic text block are common for text constructions. The first model is classified as a singlet type of intertextuality. The second and the third models belong to a dublet type of intertextuality according to the number of common text blocks. As intertextuality is responsible for the discrimination of text types as classes of texts with typical patterns of characteristics, the perfume and cosmetic text construction is classified as a segment of goods names reflecting qualitative and quantitative parameters and belongs to the descriptive text, its pattern is a frame. There is a definite correlation and connection between nominative components of the nominative complex, text blocks of the text construction and frames which contain common sense knowledge about some central concept. A brand nominative component and text block are reflected in the possessive frame. A basic nominative component and text block are reflected in the object-item frame. A genitive nominative component and text block are reflected in the taxonomic frame. A functional-descriptive nominative component and text block are reflected in the actional frame. Some frames are divided into subframes. A taxonomic frame has an existential subframe. An object-item frame contains a comparative subframe. An actional frame is divided into locative, qualitative and quantitative subframes. The integrated perfume and cosmetic nominative complex bears the necessary information and the text construction as the biggest communicative unit creates the communicative background.

The article presents a historical overview of researches that resulted in the emergence of translation studies that has by now incorporated the subject matter of a wide range of disciplines. The first studies of translation dealt with religious and belles-lettres texts. Naturally, the literary theory of translation was the first to be developed by scholars. 1930s marked the start of researches in the field of translating special texts that were not related to religion or fiction. The next direction of translation studies was the linguistic one and was based on equivalence theory. In the course of time it became clear that the linguistic approach has its own limitations. The next paradigm some linguists, like Yves Gambier and Anthony Pym single out is the Internet format due to the digital environment in which translation is performed. We do not agree with this point of view as far as the new technical conditions do not justify a new approach to be distinguished. It seems logical to single out the functionalist approach as the successor of the linguistic one. Translation is regarded as an integral part of a communicative situation; therefore all the parameters of the latter are taken into account in the process of rendering a source text into a target text by means of the instruments of the target language. In 1980s linguists started researching the effect of culture on translation and vice versa. They found the influence so significant that they suggested singling out new approaches: transcreation, transadaptation, and transculturation. However, they fail to recognize that what these new terms refer to has long been known in translation studies as pragmatic or cultural adaptation. At the beginning of the XXI century researchers elaborated an integrative (or interdisciplinary) approach to translation and distinguished three possible views on its character.

VARIATION OF SPEECH IN A VICTORIAN NOVEL This paper is devoted to characterization of prosodic features of the narrator’s speech and direct speech fragments in a Victorian novel by Jane Austen «Pride and Prejudice» represented by a professional actor in audio version. The aim of the research is to conduct a contrastive analysis of the narrator’s speech prosody and personified speech prosody and reveal the way they change due to communicative intent. This phonetic research is based on auditory and acoustic analysis and investigates speech melody (different configurations of pitch curves and types of terminal tones), FO range and intensity variability, tempo (mean syllable duration), pausation, rhythm and types of voice quality. The research was conducted on the basis of different types of utterances (exclamations, descriptions, evaluative and emotional statements, questions and answers) which differ according to the degree of prosodic prominence and implicitness or explicitness of emotion expression. The results of the research showed that the narrator’s speech is less emotional than direct speech fragments of Austen’s characters. The latter demonstrate a wide variety of prosodic means of expressiveness to manifest different emotions. In the present paper the expression of positive and negative emotions in personified speech by means of prosody were studied. To express different types of binary emotions in stylized speech of characters the actor uses a particular combination of prosodic components which help to create voice portraits of characters to be easily distinguished by listeners. aspect of utterances can be defined and expressed only by means of prosody. In the process of comparing and contrasting prosodic characteristics of narrator’s speech and direct speech realizations of characters we arrived at the conclusion that each type of speech has some inherent prosodic features which seem to be highly idiosyncratic.

The article is devoted to the problem of designing a learning process in the English language classroom taking into consideration psycholinguistic perspectives of the English language teaching. To solve this problem the teachers need a clear idea of how people think when learn language. The main purpose of the article is to dwell on psycholinguistic peculiarities of the English language teaching and systematize the requirements to the printed language materials exploited in the language classroom. Educators propose the following phases of pupils’ development in terms of language knowledge and skills: ignorance, exposure, noticing, understanding, practice, active use. According to Stephen Krashen’s input hypothesis the process of learning is impossible without comprehensible input. It is defined as the spoken or written language learners are exposed to. The scientists (J. Scrivener, S. Thornbury) differentiate between restricted and authentic exposure to language. The examples of authentic exposure may be observed when the learners read articles, product labels, notices, posters, menus; listen to small talks; watch films in the original. When the learning texts are especially devised to be applicable to learners and tend to draw pupils attention to particular bits of information we deal with restricted exposure. To sum it up, among the described principles applicable to developing printed materials exploited by the teachers in the English language classroom the most essential ones are as follows: materials should have a noticeable effect on learners, stimulate their curiosity, interest and attention; materials should take into account that learners differ in learning styles; materials should take into account that learners have different motives, emotions and attitudes to the process of learning. The prospects for further research in this field are to develop new means and techniques aimed at activating learners’ language competence considering the psychological basis of this process.
