The article focuses on the concept definition and criteria establishment for optimizing of team working project activity of students in the process of foreign language learning in non-linguistic specialties through a Challenge-Based virtual higher education environment. Under modern global labor market demand the graduate’s ability to team project activity is seen as an indispensable employability skill resulting from formative interdisciplinary training of a competitive professional via higher educational practice courses. Due to theoretical and empirical analysis of the methodological provisions of A Challenge-Based Learning the following optimizing criteria were systematized: 1) personality-oriented, including psychological and competence levels of readiness of teachers and students to shift from traditional lecturer-instructor to facilitator interaction, on the one hand, and improving the quality of the regulatory mechanism of student’s reflection, on the other hand, due to productive changes in the motivation sphere, cognitive development, communicative competence formation, group dynamics and team cohesion modifiers; 2) content-operational, that is a holistic methodological complex for defining the project proposal, research planning, time management, implementation and peer-to-peer assessment, collaborative resolution of conflicts of interest, progress monitoring, qualitative evaluation and reflection; 3) formative-diagnostic, embodied not only in a final product presentation, implementation and sharing, but in reflexive axiological diagnostics of team interaction progress. The author’s views on the competence approach to team project working as potentially optimizing the development of cognitive, axiological, linguistic and communicative activities of students are presented. A Challenge-Based Learning is exemplified as a collaborative team learning experience to reinforce brainstorming, research skills and intellectual communication in the process of foreign language learning in non-linguistic specialties via virtual higher education environment.

The article reports on research into the problem of reasonability to seek for techniques and means of critical thinking enhancing in foreign language learners at non-linguistic universities as the demand of the 21 st century. The current study investigates basic methodological innovations relevant to applying active, interactive or dialogue methods of teaching, aimed at redirecting teaching activities from informative and illustrative to organizational. Efficient practice-centered pedagogical technologies that engage and encourage a cognitive autonomous student activity, promote in-depth study and mastering training materials, enhance independent study, develop and form critical thinking are researched. An autonomous cognitive student activity in teaching and learning foreign languages at non-linguistic universities is studied as a major type of academic activity which is carried out and monitored by students due to their ongoing and final assessment on the basis of external indirect system management by the teacher. It is emphasized that the technology of enhancing and promoting critical thinking contributes to the formation of the potential specialist’s readiness for further self-education and lifelong learning in order to constantly improve their skills and even, if necessary, get a new profession. It is emphasised that the intensification of independent cognitive activity in the educational process, as the realities today are such that the modern social demand focuses on preparing students for an autonomous cognitive activity in the educational process in higher education and later in professional activities. The article concerned with one of the primary problems to be solved by higher education – improving the quality of training – has the following priorities: graduates of higher education institutions must be competent not only within the curriculum of academic disciplines, but to obtain appropriate knowledge, skills application of this knowledge in practice, methods of conducting research activities, as well as to carry out an independent search for new knowledge and scientific data, to develop independently and be engaged in self-education, while practising critical thinking.

Charity is a special type of social interaction which differs from the other types due to its optional institutional ties. On the one hand, charity is determined by an objective social factor, namely – the existence of those who need assistance – the needy and the objectively existing need for help from one party, and on the other hand – the subjective desire of the other party to provide such assistance. The phenomenon of charity is a stable concept. Its essence remains unchangeable under various social conditions and time periods, however, its forms of manifestation change and adapt to the specific socio-cultural conditions. This is confirmed by the fact that charity has transformed from a purely subjective private phenomenon and a traditional approach within Christianity, to the functional direction of public policy and later public activity in the functioning of public organizations. This transformation was also reflected in the forms of manifestation of the moral and value component, which was part of interpersonal relations and charity. It has partly lost its significance and partly shifted to the professional requirements for the profession of a social worker and other persons who provide assistance or services to others. Charitable activities very often help to find effective ways to solve problems in the social sphere, which the state cannot, due to certain circumstances, promptly solve, covering both specific individuals and entire levels of society. A study of the local history of charitable and social work provides a real-life context and concrete examples for shaping the professional identity of future social workers. The local aspect of social work is revealed, first of all, through the work of charitable organizations and individuals who created or funded these institutions, or took an active part in their activities. It is noted that charitable activities contribute to the psychological changes in the consciousness of students. In particular, such changes in the minds of students are characterized by changes in the level of their social responsibility, status, role positions and values. Understanding charity as a historical and spiritual-moral basis of social work can help increase its effectiveness, expedite recovery from difficult life circumstances, and at broader levels – to prevent and preclude the emergence of difficult life circumstances as a mass phenomenon.

In the context of the implementation of educational standards of a new generation, the educational system needs updating of the existing approaches in training specialists that satisfy the needs of a modern society and the state. A range of different methods, techniques and approaches were adopted through the years to meet with the needs of learners. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the need for an alternative learning options which put interactive learning in the centre of analysis. Research studies in recent years show that approximately 60% of the total number of learners is not focused on the study of the theory, more precisely on the practical aspects of the content. And the percentage of such students increases from year to year. Students want to immediately gain experience of direct activity and experimentation, rather than first studying the theoretical concept and only then apply it in the practice. Interactive learning from the theoretical and practical point of view serves to intеnsify the process of understanding, mastering and creative applying of knowledge in order to solve practical tasks, communicate and build relationships with other pеople, еncourage interest in the profession, form patterns of conduct, provide high motivation so strengthen communicative proficiency, which stands as the ultimate goal of language learning and contribute to the complex competences of future professionals. In addition to exаmining the theoretical aspects of interactive learning, it is important to consider that the traditional methods of educational process such as lecture, explanations, exercises are certainly important for professional development but proper and regular application of interactive techniques allows learners to enrich their knowledge in Englіsh language, form independent thinking, organize self-learning environment аnd helps teachers to mаke classes interesting, useful and productivе.
