Psychology of Working theorists recommend supplementing the Decent Work Scale (DWS) with subjective investigations of decent work across different cultural contexts. Building on this, the present study developed and validated the Decent Work Triad (DWT) for assessing the subjective aspects of decent work in a sub-Saharan African context. Using a Burkinabe sample for exploratory (N = 303) and confirmatory (N = 494) analyses, it consists of 8 items assessing three moral and value-based dimensions: Dignity, Corruption-Free, and Shamelessness. The scale showed good psychometric properties and invariance across country and gender in Burkina Faso (N = 494), Switzerland (N = 590), and Togo (N = 812). It also showed incremental validity in predicting work and life satisfaction beyond the DWS and discriminant validity along with constructs of marginalization and economic constraints, underscoring its robustness. The DWT's utility in understanding the subjective and cultural dimensions of decent work and its implications were discussed.

This article provides a review of existing research on youth transitions within regional, remote and rural communities. Results were organised according to the Systems Theory Framework of Career Development, highlighting the importance of geographical location as an environmental influence within the career decision-making process. By deploying a scoping review methodology it was determined that educational institutions, the employment market, socioeconomic status and families are the most significant influences on the career decision-making processes for young people in regional, remote and rural communities. Future research in this area would involve an examination of these four areas.

Over 50 years, he has contributed to policy development and significant practice innovations based on his research. His work continues to influence in all areas of career development, especially in education settings from primary through to tertiary. It is written to not only acknowledge his work but to ensure the history of our pioneers is not forgotten.

Despite the studies on protean career attitude in the career management literature, career sustainability and its potential outcomes have been subjected to study with limited empirical evidence. With this context, this study propounds a conceptual model connecting protean career orientation and perceived employability with career sustainability. Besides, sequentially, we posit that lifelong learning and proactive skill development mediate the relationship between protean career orientation and perceived employability. To establish the relationship, this study gathered data from Italy and Cyprus. Structural equation modelling was performed using the data collected. The results indicated serial mediation paths through which protean orientation impacts career sustainability.

This study used a short-term longitudinal design to test the social-cognitive model of career self-management's (CSM) theorized pathway in which exploratory actions mediate the association between career exploration self-efficacy and decisional outcomes. The study clarifies the role of exploratory actions in the decision-making process by distinguishing between self-exploration and environmental exploration. College students ( N = 136; 77% female; mean age = 18.71 years [ SD = 1.19]; 47% with undeclared majors) completed an online survey assessing self-efficacy for self-appraisal and self-efficacy for obtaining occupational information. A month later, they reported the frequency of their engagement in self-exploratory and environment-exploratory actions over the past month and completed measures of two decisional outcomes reflecting readiness to make career decisions (vocational identity and need for additional occupational information). The CSM's mediational pathway was supported with respect to self-exploration but not environmental exploration. I discuss implications for the CSM model and for career-development interventions.

Understanding the transition from psychology graduate to post-graduate counselling studies 了解从心理学研究生到辅导研究生的过渡

University graduates have invested significant time, money, and effort into completing their studies, with many discovering that their chosen discipline is not what they were expecting, nor the right fit for their individual values or goals. Transition between disciplines is particularly common in the helping professions, but little is known about the motivation for these transitions. To better understand motivations for transitioning disciplines, we investigated why psychology graduates chose to transition to post-graduate counselling studies. Using semi-structured interviews, we asked the participants ( n = 8) to describe their perceptions, motivations, and experiences of studying psychology and counselling. Applying reflexive thematic analysis, we identified a meta-theme that the transition to counselling was facilitated by the participants’ desire to have a profession that aligned with their core values; and they viewed counselling as a strength-based, flexible, holistic, and humanistic approach to helping others.

In this Age of the Anthropocene, the world of work is being radically disrupted by mass precarity, rising wage and income inequality, habitat destruction, and the rise of artificial intelligence. Facing such insecurity, people, we show, are careering toward radical ways of making a living. They range from radical professionals to social media influencing and environmental activism. Human security is fundamentally enhanced by sustainable livelihoods, and we explore ways not only to de-radicalise, but also to accept and embrace radical careering, if and whenever it serves the purpose of making people's livelihoods more sustainable for society, economies, and ecosystems. The article concludes by introducing an Index of Sustainable Livelihoods ( SL-I). Success to the successful. The Sustainable Livelihoods Index ( SL-I) is designed to be a ‘visible hand’ for end-users, including career counsellors, students, and workers undergoing career transitions, by Corporate Responsibility Officers, and by government ministries supporting just workforce transitions into sustainable livelihoods.

Does career optimism facilitate entry into university and professional employment? A longitudinal examination of Australian data 职业乐观主义是否有助于进入大学和专业就业?对澳大利亚数据的纵向研究

While interest in career optimism has grown steadily in the last 15 years, most of its investigations rely on cross-sectional convenience samples that prevent exploring how earlier optimism matters for later educational and vocational outcomes. To address this issue, I use structural equation modelling to assess measurement invariance and the impact of career optimism at ages 20, 23 and 26 in a nationally representative sample of 2900 young Australians. A three-item measure of career optimism shows metric but not scalar invariance across young adulthood, meaning that while optimism's components remain the same, their levels fluctuate. Optimism helps young adults enrol in a university and enter professional employment by age 26. However, the positive impact of career optimism partly reflects the variation in youths’ socioeconomic backgrounds. Thus, future studies of career optimism should consider if some individuals tend to be more optimistic because they grew up in environments with more cultural and economic capital.

To address this issue, I use structural equation modelling to assess measurement invariance and the impact of career optimism at ages 20, 23 and 26 in a nationally representative sample of 2900 young Australians. A three-item measure of career optimism shows metric but not scalar invariance across young adulthood, meaning that while optimism's components remain the same, their levels fluctuate. Optimism helps young adults enrol in a university and enter professional employment by age 26. However, the positive impact of career optimism partly reflects the variation in youths’ socioeconomic backgrounds. Unrevealing the interplay between internal and external factors leading to career decidedness: A three-wave study 揭示导致职业决定性的内部和外部因素之间的相互作用:三波研究

Students’ career decision is a relevant topic in career development with scholars and practitioners aiming at understanding which factors can contribute to students decision-making to support them in their career path. In this study, we argue that facilitating conditions can positively influence the career decisions of students. This relationship is mediated by career self-efficacy and moderated by optimism. To test our hypotheses, we conducted a longitudinal study. In total, 789 high school students from different educational streams took part in our three-way study. Results showed that career decision-making self-efficacy mediates the relationship between facilitating conditions for school motivations and career decision-making. While the direct effect of facilitating conditions for school motivations on career decidedness is negative, the relationship linking facilitating conditions for school motivations to career decision-making self-efficacy, as well as that linking career decision-making self-efficacy and career decidedness, is positive. These results provide insights for better-targeting counselling programmes.
