La variación en los resúmenes de medicina y lingüística: un análisis desde la organización retórica y la teoría de la valoración 医学与语言学摘要的变异:修辞组织与评价理论的分析

espanolEl resumen se ha vuelto un genero discursivo fundamental en el mundo academico debido a su papel clave en la diseminacion del conocimiento cientifico. Por esto, se vuelve de interes analizar la manera en la cual este genero materializa linguisticamente sus propositos en distintas comunidades disciplinares. El presente articulo describe la variacion de la organizacion retorica en las disciplinas de medicina y linguistica y la forma en la cual los autores evaluan la informacion que presentan en este genero discursivo. Para ello, se hace uso de la propuesta de organizacion retorica del resumen de Hyland (2000) y la dimension de actitud de la teoria de la valoracion de Martin y White (2005). Los resultados de este estudio muestran que las organizaciones P-M-Pr y P-M-Pr-C son las de mayor ocurrencia en ambas disciplinas y que las frecuencias de las movidas de introduccion y conclusion son menores en resumenes de linguistica. En cuanto a la realizacion del sistema de actitud, ambas disciplinas tienden a privilegiar la apreciacion en la introduccion y producto. La disciplina de medicina, ademas, muestra una inclinacion a utilizar recursos de apreciacion en la movida de conclusion. Estos hallazgos permiten dar cuenta de manera novedosa de la variacion disciplinar al evidenciar como se configura la subjetividad del autor en la escritura academica del resumen. EnglishThe abstract has become a fundamental genre in the academy due to its role in the dissemination of scientific knowledge. For this reason, it is important to describe this genre in the context of different disciplines. This article describes the rhetorical variation in medicine and linguistics as well as the way in which the information is evaluated in these disciplines. To do this, Hyland’s (2000) proposal for rhetorical organization and Martin and White’s (2005) appraisal theory are used. The results show that the organizations P-P-Pr and P-M-Pr-C are the most frequent in both disciplines, although in linguistics the moves of introduction and conclusion are less common. Both disciplines privilege appreciation in the introduction and product moves. Medicine, in particular, shows a trend to display appreciation in the conclusion move. These findings help account for variation in a novel manner considering not only rhetorical organization but also evaluation.

Dialectical Unity in Central America? An Analysis of its Dialectical Lexicon 中美洲的辩证统一?对其辩证词汇的分析

The lexicon that coincides with the geographic region formed by the six countries of the American isthmus has not yet been examined as part of a single dialectical area. Our inquiry proposes to analyse and classify the lexical units that are recorded in dialectical dictionaries as a means to answer the question of whether this is a single dialectical area. Through a quantitative and qualitative methodology, we discover that the Central American territory presents two groups according to lexical repertoire. The results demonstrate that the first includes El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, which have a greater number of coinciding words compared to Costa Rica and Panama. Data about the indicators that shed light on etymological origin and lexical-semantic creation, adoption and adaptation to understand the trends followed by each group are also provided. This work contributes to the possibility of considering Central America as a dialectical unit.

Translating Prohibition in Arabic Poetic Lines into English 阿拉伯语诗行中禁酒令的英译

This study investigates the indirect meanings of prohibitive linguistic acts used in Arabic poetic lines. Prohibition has been an interest of Arab and English researchers. Arab researchers have focused on the indirect meanings of prohibition in the Quran without paying attention to its existence in poetic lines. When Arabic prohibitive poetic lines are translated into English, issues arise because of linguistic and, sometimes, cultural notions between two different languages. In this study, three research questions must be answered. (1) What are the indirect meanings of prohibitive poetic lines at the level of ideational meaning? (2) What are the types of the transitivity processes of prohibitive poetic lines in Arabic and English? (3) Which type of translation method is used in translating Arabic prohibitive poetic lines into English? On this ground, the study is based on Speech Act Theory by Searle (1976) to show how the language of the speech is organised to convey the meaning of the speaker to the hearer. Systemic Functional Linguistics by Halliday (1994) is also adopted to show how ideational function through prohibitive acts is communicated. Nida’s model for translation is also adopted to show methods in translating Arabic prohibitive poetic lines into English. The study has contended that direct and indirect meanings occurred within the scope of Searle’s classification. The process of prohibitive speech acts was subjected sometimes to change when translated into English. The present study has also exposed how the indirect meaning of Arabic prohibitive poetic lines is generally conveyed by formal translation and, sometimes, by dynamic translation and by both.

espanolEl proposito de este trabajo es tratar los aspectos culturales diferenciadores entre Espana y Corea del Sur segun el Modelo de las seis dimensiones elaborado por Geert Hofstede (2010). Estas dimensiones culturales se aplicaron al proceso de aprendizaje de ELE de estudiantes coreanos en Espana, con el objetivo principal de realizar un analisis de caso para entender mejor las necesidades de estos estudiantes en el aula de ELE. En esta investigacion ofrecemos un estudio de caracter cuantitativo basado en cuestionarios a veinte estudiantes coreanos. A traves de sus resultados pretendemos ofrecer luz acerca de las causas sobre las que descansa la reticencia a hablar de los estudiantes coreanos en el aula universitaria de espanol como lengua extranjera, su falta de autonomia y su inusual dependencia de actividades de memorizacion, entre otros aspectos. EnglishThis article deals with the cultural aspects that differentiate Spain and South Korea following Geert Hofstede’s model of six cultural dimensions (2010). These cultural dimensions were applied to the learning process of Spanish as a foreign language (SFL) by a group of Korean students in Spain, this work being based on a case analysis in order to better understand the needs of SFL students. This research is based on the study of quantitative data collected in surveys handed out to twenty Korean students. The results are aimed at shedding light on the causes that explain the reticence of students when it comes to interacting in the Spanish language classroom, their lack of autonomy and their unusual dependence on memorization activities, among other things.

Competencia digital y mediática de sinohablantes en el aprendizaje del español: estudio de caso de un nuevo perfil de aprendices 汉语使用者学习西班牙语的数字和媒体能力:新学徒概况的案例研究

espanolEn la actualidad, las aulas en Espana estan siendo testigos de la llegada de alumnado chino de menos de 35 anos que tiene una competencia digital y mediatica muy acentuada. Esto produce que el docente disponga de nuevas herramientas digitales asociadas a web 2.0 para que este aprendiz se implique activamente en su propio aprendizaje. Es por ello que esta investigacion intenta conocer la percepcion de la competencia mediatica (CM) en esta comunidad estudiantil, la cual facilita el desarrollo de sus competencias comunicativas. Para la recoleccion de datos, se usaron las dimensiones e indicadores de la competencia mediatica propuestos por investigaciones anteriores. La investigacion cuantitativa y cualitativa confirma la importancia de CM. Asimismo, a traves de los videos producidos y el dialogo con los estudiantes se observaron mejoras en las destrezas linguisticas y en la capacidad de aprender a aprender. Esta investigacion es una contribucion a la definicion de un nuevo perfil de aprendiz chino en el ambito de la ensenanza del espanol. EnglishCurrently, the classrooms in Spain have observed the arrival of Chinese students under 35 years of age with remarkable digital and media competence. This has encouraged teachers to arrange new digital tools associated to 2.0 Web, so that this learner becomes actively involved in their own learning process. It is for this reason that this investigation attempts to find out the perception of media competence (MC) in this student community, which facilitates the development of their communicative competence. Data collection was carried out using the dimensions and indicators of media competence proposed by previous investigations. The quantitative and qualitative investigations confirm the importance of MC competence. In addition, the videos produced and the dialogue with the students allowed for improvement in their linguistic command and in their ability to learn to learn. This investigation is a contribution to the definition of a new profile of Chinese learners in the context of Spanish learning.

EnglishCurrently, the classrooms in Spain have observed the arrival of Chinese students under 35 years of age with remarkable digital and media competence. This has encouraged teachers to arrange new digital tools associated to 2.0 Web, so that this learner becomes actively involved in their own learning process. It is for this reason that this investigation attempts to find out the perception of media competence (MC) in this student community, which facilitates the development of their communicative competence. Data collection was carried out using the dimensions and indicators of media competence proposed by previous investigations. The quantitative and qualitative investigations confirm the importance of MC competence. In addition, the videos produced and the dialogue with the students allowed for improvement in their linguistic command and in their ability to learn to learn. The methodology used in this research has been created ad hoc taking into account, on the one hand, the previous taxonomies and, on the other hand, the specific needs of the corpus. A bibliometric study of co-authorship in Translation Studies 《翻译研究》中合著者的文献计量学研究

The main aims of this article are, on the one hand, to gain a better understanding of co-authorship practices in Translation Studies (TS) by examining how they have evolved over time and, on the other, to find out whether there is a citation advantage for co-authored works. Most of the data used for this study have been retrieved from BITRA (Bibliography of Interpreting and Translation), containing over 69,000 TS records. The analysis covering 54 years has focused on parameters including the percentage of co-authored documents versus single-authored, co-authored contributions by document type, evolution of co-authorship over time, mean number of authors per contribution, citations of co-authored vs. single-authored documents, or the ratio of international cooperation in TS. In order to complement the bibliometric analysis, we also weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of co-authorship taking a more qualitative approach. Our data yield the following interesting results. Firstly, the number of co-authored documents and the number of citations accrued by co-authored documents are on the increase. Secondly, there is a slight co-authorship citation advantage in the case of journal articles. Thirdly, the average number of authors is nowadays higher in TS as compared with other disciplines in Humanities. Fourthly, the ratio of international collaboration is rather poor, below 10%. Our findings represent an initial insight into the evolution and current situation of co-authorship in TS, and hopefully it might prove inspiring and a valuable starting point not only for future research, but also for research assessment policies that should be permeable to new trends in publication patterns in TS.

Este trabajo se centra en un aspecto del texto literario que a menudo suscita debate y polemica: las notas del traductor. Sin embargo, este controvertido elemento paratextual no ha despertado demasiado interes dentro de la traductologia y apenas existen estudios centrados en su recepcion por parte de los lectores. Por ello, el objetivo principal de este trabajo era realizar un analisis cuantitativo del grado de aceptacion de las notas mediante un cuestionario tomando la traduccion del chino de Diarios del Sahara como estudio de caso. Los resultados apuntan a que el grado de aceptacion de las notas en general por parte de los lectores es bastante alto e incluso las consideran muy necesarias cuando son metalinguisticas o intertextuales. En definitiva, adoptando un enfoque innovador, esta investigacion ofrece datos objetivos sobre la adecuacion y aceptabilidad de las notas del traductor, lo cual constituye una aportacion interesante no solo para la disciplina, sino tambien para traductores y editores a la hora de tomar decisiones informadas sobre la opinion y las necesidades del lector

Juicios multilingües en Barcelona desde la perspectiva de la sociología del lenguaje: lenguas dominantes, lenguas minorizadas y lenguas invisibles 语言社会学视角下的巴塞罗那多语言审判:主导语言、少数语言和隐形语言

Paralelamente, en los ultimos anos, el numero de lenguas habladas en Catalunya ha aumentado de manera considerable debido a la llegada de inmigrantes y turistas. En este contexto, la interpretacion judicial se ha convertido en un elemento imprescindible cuando personas que no hablan las lenguas oficiales se ven involucradas en un juicio, ya sea como acusados o testigos. En este articulo nos centramos en dos cuestiones que podrian aportar una nueva perspectiva al estudio del multilinguismo en el ambito judicial. Basandonos en datos extraidos de un corpus de grabaciones de 55 juicios celebrados en Barcelona en los que hubo interpretacion, analizamos la diglosia en el ambito judicial en dos niveles: por un lado, en el uso desigual de las dos lenguas cooficiales en Catalunya (catalan y castellano) y, por el otro, en el uso de lenguas francas (como el ingles o el frances) para acusados o testigos con otras lenguas maternas. Los resultados reflejan que el castellano es claramente la lengua dominante en los juicios y que, efectivamente, el ingles y el frances se utilizan como lenguas francas en juicios con interpretacion, a pesar de los distintos niveles de competencia que puedan tener los usuarios de estas lenguas. EnglishCatalonia is well known for being a bilingual region with linguistic policies that support and promote the use of Catalan. During the past few years, though, the number of languages spoken in Catalonia has increased considerably due to migratory flows and tourism. In this context, court interpreting has become an essential element when persons with limited (or null) competency in the official languages are involved in a court proceeding, either as defendants or witnesses. This article sheds light onto the study of the multilingual court based on data extracted from a corpus of transcriptions of 55 authentic trials celebrated in Barcelona where interpreting was requested. Diglossia in court proceedings is analysed at two levels: the languages used by the judiciary staff and by the allophone defendants or witnesses. The results reflect the uneven use of the two co-official languages in Catalan court settings, where Spanish is more widely used than Catalan, but also the problems that may arise from the use of a lingua franca (such as English or French) for defendants with other mother tongues. The results show that Spanish is clearly the dominant language during the court hearings. English and French are actually used as lingua franca in court hearing with interpreting, even though users of these languages might have different levels of competency.

En este articulo nos centramos en dos cuestiones que podrian aportar una nueva perspectiva al estudio del multilinguismo en el ambito judicial. Basandonos en datos extraidos de un corpus de grabaciones de 55 juicios celebrados en Barcelona en los que hubo interpretacion, analizamos la diglosia en el ambito judicial en dos niveles: por un lado, en el uso desigual de las dos lenguas cooficiales en Catalunya (catalan y castellano) y, por el otro, en el uso de lenguas francas (como el ingles o el frances) para acusados o testigos con otras lenguas maternas. Los resultados reflejan que el castellano es claramente la lengua dominante en los juicios y que, efectivamente, el ingles y el frances se utilizan como lenguas francas en juicios con interpretacion, a pesar de los distintos niveles de competencia que puedan tener los usuarios de estas lenguas. EnglishCatalonia is well known for being a bilingual region with linguistic policies that support and promote the use of Catalan. During the past few years, though, the number of languages spoken in Catalonia has increased considerably due to migratory flows and tourism. In this context, court interpreting has become an essential element when persons with limited (or null) competency in the official languages are involved in a court proceeding, either as defendants or witnesses. This article sheds light onto the study of the multilingual court based on data extracted from a corpus of transcriptions of 55 authentic trials celebrated in Barcelona where interpreting was requested. Diglossia in court proceedings is analysed at two levels: the languages used by the judiciary staff and by the allophone defendants or witnesses. The results reflect the uneven use of the two co-official languages in Catalan court settings, where Spanish is more widely used than Catalan, but also the problems that may arise from the use of a lingua franca (such as English or French) for defendants with other mother tongues. The results show that Spanish is clearly the dominant language during the court hearings.
