The objective of this research was to examine how personality acts as a mediator in the relationship between reaction time and traffic perception in young adults. Given the increase in the number of road accidents among this age group in the European Union, it is essential to understand the psychological determinants of risky driving behavior. A sample of 60 participants from Poland, Slovakia, and Lithuania was assessed using the Vienna Test System to measure personality, reaction time, time-movement anticipation, and traffic perceptions. The results indicate gender differences in self-control personality factor and motor reaction time, as well as a positive correlation between the sense of responsibility and time-movement anticipation. The proposed model was confirmed, demonstrating that mental stability mediates the relationship between reaction time and traffic perceptions. A driver with high mental stability can react faster to stimuli while accurately perceiving objects in road traffic. This study has implications for road safety policies and practices. Incorporating personality assessments into driver training programs can help develop interventions that target specific personality traits. Furthermore, interventions aimed at enhancing mental stability may help reduce the likelihood of accidents among young drivers. However, this study’s limitations, such as the small sample size and narrow age range, should be considered in future research with other age groups and additional variables that directly impact traffic safety.

This paper presents new functionalities for systems weighing vehicles in motion, which result from the integration of various measurement technologies and the use of a precise registration and data processing system. The utilized registration track provides accurate measurements of basic vehicle parameters such as axle load and vehicle speed and makes it possible to determine the location of the vehicle passing the weighing station, calculate the width of the tire tread, and detect twin (double) wheels. A key functionality is the assessment of the reliability of the measurement, taking into account, among other factors, vehicle movement dynamics and the ambient conditions during the measurements. For this purpose, additional measurements of road surface temperature and wind speed and direction were introduced. The technological solutions used and the proprietary data processing algorithms are described. Tests carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms and to assess the significance of the influence of the isolated factors permitted confirmation of the validity of the proposed solutions.

Noise from cars is one of the main sources of harmful pollution. In the presented paper, an octave frequency band analysis is conducted according to standard methods of external and internal noise measurement. Experiments at different speeds, with three types of cars—conventional gasoline (GV), hybrid (HEV) and pure electric (BEV)— were carried out on two types of pavement—damaged coarse-grained and smooth finegrained asphalt. The results show variations in external and internal noise levels vs. speed in different octave bands. At each speed, a spectral analysis was done. The diagrams with results show changes in noise level vs. speed and the positions of noise maximums. Regression models for the octave spectrum at different speeds and pavements are developed.

The aim of the study is to present the changes in the vehicle dynamics that occur in connection with the use of various fuels that power the engine. The article presents the effect of gaseous fuels being mixtures of LPG and BioDME on the flexibility of the vehicle. In previous studies, not much attention has been paid to the problem of changing the performance of the vehicle with the use of various fuels supplying the engine. It is a new approach that allows to determine the advantages and disadvantages of using alternative fuels, including mixtures using BioDME. The study was conducted for a four-cylinder SI engine with a displacement of 1.6 dm3, installed in a passenger vehicle. The mixture of LPG and DME was assessed, and the results compared to the parameters obtained for the LPG-powered engine. Received results have been made it possible to determine changes in the value of the engine flexibility for selected engine loads and various DME shares in the mixture. The thesis that DME can be considered as an activator of the combustion process and may have an impact on the vehicle dynamics is confirmed.

This paper presents a method for the precise diagnosis of a diesel engine in an agricultural tractor based on the analysis of efficiency changes and parameters characterizing the process of fuel-air mixture preparation. We proposed that the technical condition be identified based on available data from the engine controller, as this enables the implementation of precise online diagnostics of an agricultural tractor. The method was verified using the original cycle, during which we simulated several engine defects leading to a change in conditions and quality of the processes of creating and burning the fuel/air/flue gas mixture. In the paper, we justified the selection of the points at which the engine parameters were measured, as they provide the most information and allow for efficient identification of damage. These results indicate the possibility of damage identification without the use of the diagnostic cycle in the operation of operator-driven vehicles and autonomous vehicles.

This research paper aims to study the effect of tram management on traffic fluidity and its impact on car drivers’ behaviors at junctions crossed by trams. The methodology used in this research is based on a mathematical model and an investigation of car drivers. The first step is to analyze the data of annual travelers’ attendance and assess the number of trams offered and needed in operation to respond adequately to the factual demand. The second step proceeds to show how the previous results of the trams’ fleet influence traffic jams. That is, this step identifies how the number of trams used in operation blocks other motorists and reduces traffic flow capacity at junctions. Finally, the purpose of the questionnaire is to determine car drivers’ opinions of the causes of traffic congestion at junctions and understand how this phenomenon affects their behaviors. The outcomes demonstrate that tram management is ineffective because there is a considerable gap between the annual offered tram fleet and the actual one needed according to the real statistical data. The high number of trams utilized is the leading cause of traffic congestion. Furthermore, this situation disturbs the control of traffic lights at common intersections. Unfortunately, this outcome is the main reason for drivers’ poor behavior, as 75.20% of car drivers are always stressed. These issues have intensified traffic jams in several junctions along the tram line. The article recommends some solutions to improve tram management and traffic fluidity to avoid the substandard behavior of car drivers at junctions.

An algorithm for optimizing the routes of a set of vehicles used for the collection and removal of municipal solid waste in a metropolis is proposed. The algorithm eliminates the problem of applying heuristic methods for multi-agent optimization, which is NP non-deterministic polynomial-time-hard. The application of the algorithm leads to a guaranteed exact solution. Through the application of restrictions on the carrying capacity of vehicles, the size of the input matrix representing the transport network can be reduced to an adequate size. This process uses statistical information about the filling levels of container waste bins. The algorithm is applied to an example of two megacities. The shortest routes are built for different numbers of points (from 12 to 72) on the route. The dependence of the total mileage on the number of involved vehicles is studied.

This article presents a description of the properties of basalt fibers and polymer composites containing basalt fibers. Basalt fibers are seen as a potentially beneficial component in composite development, especially for vehicles in transport applications. The article also presents the results of the mechanical properties investigation of the glass-epoxy and basalt-epoxy composites. The composites for testing were prepared using the popular hand lay-up method. The samples were cut from prepared plates using abrasive water jet methods. The obtained samples were tested to evaluate their flexural strength and interlaminar sharing strength. The achieved mechanical properties were compared.

Actions related to the improvement of the safety of disabled road users have multiple levels and are burdened with problems related to the collection and proper analysis of road incidents. A meta-analysis of databases could provide a better understanding of the causes of these events and prevent them in the future. Currently, residual information on participants of road accidents can be found in the Accident and Collision Record System; the data are analyzed by the Polish Road Traffic Observatory and submitted to the International Road Traffic and Accident Database and the Community Road Accident Database. In connection with the above, an article was prepared containing a propaedeutic review of research materials to date, as well as domestic and foreign databases constituting the diagnostics of the research area. An international literature search was also conducted on accidents involving people with disabilities. The findings indicate the need to collect and expand information about disabled participants of road incidents, fill this gap in databases, and systematize them as the starting material for the development of remedial actions.

Urban transport plays a massive role in the proper functioning of cities [1, 2]. Prioritisation of public transport [3] is an attempt to fight growing traffic congestion, which has a noticeable impact on people’s comfort of living, especially in large cities [4-6]. Shaping the road environment to improve the quality of functioning of public transport means that the management of urban infrastructure cannot cause difficulties. The continuous execution of construction works in Wroclaw has forced the ordering party to introduce temporary, and often complicated, traffic organisation solutions. The primary goal is to ensure the most efficiency for public transport users while maintaining the smoothness of private transport. This article presents solutions to temporary tram traffic organisation used in Wroclaw. The frequency and effects of the applied solutions were analysed using examples of completed and planned tram investments in Wroclaw. The reasons for the applied solutions and possible directions for further analyses were considered.
