For the first time, the syntaxonomic diversity of steppe vegetation along the Baikal-Gobi transect was determined, represented by 49 associations belonging to 23 formations, 5 florocoenotypes, and 3 ecological-historical series. The classification construction according to the ecological-phytocoenotic dominant-determinant principle was based on data collected during field research and processed using traditional geobotanical methods: route reconnaissance studies, geobotanical descriptions, cluster and gradient analysis. Units of this approach give an idea of the current state of communities at a certain stage of succession, and syntaxa reflect the ecological features of vegetation inherent in the territory. This approach has an applied value, expressed, in particular, in mapping – the volume of the main syntaxa is smaller compared to the ecological-floristic approach, which makes it possible for a more meaningful analysis in large-scale mapping.

Two natural interspecific hybrids of Ophrys mammosa Desf. s. l. and O. oestrifera M. Bieb. (O. × aghemanii Renz) are reported from Russia: a very rare O. mammosa subsp. mammosa × O. oestrifera from the Crimea (vicinity of Zelenogorye) and a relatively abundant O. mammosa subsp. caucasica (Woronow ex Grossh.) Soó × O. oestriferafrom the Krasnodar Territory (vicinity of Bolshoy Utrish). Males of Andrena carantonica Pérez are recorded as efficient pollinators of apparently both O. mammosa subsp. caucasica and O. oestrifera at the site where their hybrids occur.

Biotechnological approaches have been actively used in recent years to preserve rare and endemic plant species under slow growth conditions. This is reached by lowering the temperature and light intensity, increasing the osmotic concentration, introducing retardants into the culture medium. For conservation, we used microshoot segments of Lamium glaberrimum (K. Koch) Taliev (Lamiaceae), Crepis purpurea L. (Asteraceae), Scrophularia exilis Popl. (Scrophulariaceae), Silene jailensis N. I. Rubtzov (Caryophyllaceae) cultured under standard in vitro conditions for 8‒10 months. The explants were placed on ¼ MS culture medium supplemented with plant growth inhibitors: 0.2 g/L 2-chloroethyl-trimethyl-ammonium chloride (CCC) and 60 g/L sucrose. Conservation conditions were: the temperature 4–6 °C, light intensity 1.25–3.75 µM m-2 s-1, photoperiod 16 hours. Screening of the morphometric parameters indicated high viability and a decrease in growth kinetics after 12 and 24 months of deposition in the gene bank in vitro. Along with the microshoot slow growth, the formation of adventitious shoots, leaves, and roots was observed.

We describe a new species, Poa probatovae Olonova et Chepinoga, which occurs in the conifer forests of Tunkinskiye Goltsy Ridge (East Sayan Mts.) in the south of Republic of Buryatia (Eastern Siberia). Besides the protologue, we indicate the affinity of the new species and its geographical distribution. Assumptions about a possible relationship of P. probatovae are made as well. The new species is close to P. × intricata Wein (P. palustris L. × P. nemoralis L.) and P. remota Forcell but differs well from them by glabrous callus of the lemma, pubescence between the veins of lemma and between keels of palea. The described species is presumably endemic for Tunkinskiye Goltsy Ridge, but it is very likely found on other ridges of East Sayan Mts. and the Khamar-Daban Ridge.

In the course of field research, analysis of previously published works and review of materials stored in well-known collection funds of Siberia (NS, KRAS, SSHZ), information on the distribution of rare adventitious and native plant species in the Upper Yenisei basin was clarified. For the first time, Arctium lappa, Armoracia sisymbrioides, Bupleurum sibiricum, Calystegia sepium, Lolium perenne, Pastinaca sativa, and Polygonum subaphyllum were noted for the flora of the Republic of Tuva. Stipa glareosa was collected for the first time on the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Viola tricolor was turned out to be new for the flora of the Sayano-Shushensky Reserve. For 10 rare species, new locations were noted and range boundaries were specified: Acer tataricum, Armoracia rusticana, Avena fatua, Carduus nutans, Clematis aethusifolia, Convolvulus arvensis, Polygonum rurivagum, Sedum acre, Setaria pumila, and Viola tricolor.

Taxonomically significant features determining the species status of members of this group are characterized and illustrated. Based on morphological and geographical analysis correlated with molecular data, the species independence of A. motorKamelin et Levichev was confirmed. The authorship of the name A. tschimganicum B. Fedtsch. ex Vved. has been clarified. The key for identification of the species of this group from the section Acmopetala R. M. Fritsch is given. The applied value of the A. motor is qualified as a “springtime food stimulant”, toning the human nervous system.

The comparative karyological analysis of Adonis vernalis and Adonis volgensis (Ranunculaceae) from 11 populations from Russia (Altai Territory, Novosibirsk Region, Republic of Khakassia) and Bulgaria was carried out. The somatic chromosome number was 2n = 16 in all studied plants. Chromosome sets of A. vernalis from the Altai Territory (near Sibirskiye Ogni village) and the Republic of Khakassia (Tashtipskiy District), A. volgensis from the Altai Territory (near Chernopyatovo village) and Bulgaria (Kavarna Municipality) consist of eight metacentric and eight submetacentric chromosomes. Two pairs of submetacentric chromosomes had small satellites in short arms. The karyotype formula of these plants was 2n = 2x = 16 = 8m + 4sm + 4smsat. The specimen with the chromosome rearrangement (nonreciprocal translocation) was found in the Altai Territory population. The chromosome mutation has changed the chromosome morphology of submetacentric pair to metacentric pair of different size. The karyotype formula of this specimen was 2n = 2x = 16 = 2n = 10m + 6sm. A similar mutation was previously found out in A. apennina (A. sibirica) from the Tomsk Region. The nuclear DNA content (2C-value) was determined in eight Adonis populations by flow cytometry. The average absolute nuclear DNA content in A. vernalis attained on from 18.88 ± 1.01 to 19.47 ± 1.17 pg, and in A. volgensis attained on from 16.10 ± 0.41 to 16.47 ± 0.47 pg. Differences in 2C-value between A. volgensis and A. vernalis correlated with differences in total chromosome lengths of the set.

Based on the revision of the grass collections kept in the herbaria of ALTB, KUZ and the Tigireksky State Nature Reserve, the composition of the Calamagrostis genus in the Altai Territory was clarified. In total, 12 species and 2 notospecies of the genus are given for the region. Two new notospecies of Calamagrostis were found for Altai Territory (C. × andrejewii, C. × thyrsoidea), of which both are new records for the Western Siberia, the latter is new for Siberia as well. In addition, an original key has been compiled to identify the representatives of the Calamagrostisgenus, taking into account new information and photos of diagnostic characters. Also, the distribution and ecology of species and notospecies of the genus Calamagrostis in the Altai Territory are specified.
