Individualized Pricing for a Cloud Provider Hosting Interactive Applications

We consider a cloud provider that hosts interactive applications, such as mobile apps and online games. Depending on the traffic of users for an application, the provider commits a subset of its resources (hardware capacity) to serve the application. The provider must choose a dynamic pricing mechanism to indirectly select the applications hosted and maximize revenue. We model the provider’s pricing problem as a large-scale stochastic dynamic program. To approach this problem, we propose a tractable approach to enable decomposing the multidimensional stochastic dynamic program into single-dimensional subproblems. We then extend the proposed framework to define an individualized dynamic pricing mechanism for the cloud provider. We present novel upper bounds on the optimal revenue to evaluate the performance of our pricing mechanism. The computational results show that a contract-based model of selling interactive cloud services achieves significantly greater revenue than the prevalent alternative and that our pricing scheme attains near-optimal revenue.

Generalized Stable User Matching for Autonomous Vehicle Co-Ownership Programs

We investigate a new form of car-sharing system that can be introduced in the market for autonomous vehicles called fractional ownership or co-ownership. Although dynamic ride sharing provides ad hoc shared mobility services without any long-term commitment, we consider co-ownership programs with which users can still “own” a car with committed usage and ownership. We assume that an autonomous vehicle is shared by a group of users, which is only accessible by the group. We use stable matching to help users find an appropriate group with which to share an autonomous vehicle and present a generalized stable matching model that allows flexible sizes of groups as well as various alternative objectives. We also present a heuristic algorithm to improve computational time owing to the combinatorial properties of the problem.

/Purpose: Defines guidelines for the use of trash dumpsters on campus. The University community is provided dumpsters for trash collection for the disposal of campus generated material only. Disposal of private household waste in University dumpsters or other trash receptacles is prohibited. Because of the unknown nature of the contents of a trash container, and the potential safety hazard those unknown contents pose, individuals entering or removing items from dumpsters, or other trash receptacles, on campus is prohibited. The days when practically anything could be sent to the landfill are long since passed. If you have questions about what can go into a dumpster, accidentally discard an item into a dumpster, or if you wish to report a hazardous material that was improperly placed into a dumpster or campus trash receptacle, contact Landscape Services, (662) 915-1846. • Place items inside dumpster. Do not stack items outside dumpster as the dumpster can not be emptied if items are stacked or blocking the dumpster. • Broken glass should be placed in a cardboard box, taped shut, and marked as broken glass prior to its placement in the trash dumpster. • If you are unsure how to properly dispose of your campus waste, contact Health and Safety or Landscape Services Department. • Don't enter a dumpster for any purpose • Don't climb on a dumpster for any reason. • Don't scavenge. • Don't park in front of a dumpster. The following items should NOT be placed into our trash dumpsters at any time: • Any biohazardous, radioactive, hazardous, or regulated medical waste. Contact Health and Safety at (662) 915-5433 for proper disposal. • Any items labeled with a University of Mississippi property sticker. Contact Procurement Services at (662) 915-7448 for proper disposal.
