to analyze the time-series trend for maternal mortality before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
ecological time-series study in the state of São Paulo and in its seventeen Regional Health Departments. Collection of secondary data provided by the Ministry of Health. Study variables: total, direct and indirect maternal mortality ratios. Analysis was performed by segmented regression model.
maternal mortality ratio trends were stationary in 2011-2019, followed by a 25.6% increase in 2019-2021. The direct maternal mortality ratio had an upward trend of 7.2% in 2011-2017 and a stationary trend in 2017-2021. The indirect maternal mortality ratio was stationary in 2011-2019, followed by a 70.5% increase in 2019-2021. The regional health departments of the Metropolitan Area of São Paulo, Araçatuba, Bauru, Campinas, Presidente Prudente, São João da Boa Vista, São José do Rio Preto and Sorocaba showed an upward trend for maternal mortality in 2011-2021.
the COVID-19 pandemic severely influenced the increase in maternal mortality, especially from indirect causes, with 2021 being the worst year in the time series. The findings were important to assist in the organization of maternal mortality reduction strategies by directing them to priority areas.

to analyze the level of anxiety and variation in the vital signs of cancer patients and performers (music students) before and after a live musical intervention.
quasi-experimental pilot study with no control group. An interdisciplinary musical intervention was carried out between Nursing and Music Performance students. The level of anxiety was assessed with the Hamilton scale and the variation in vital signs before and after the intervention in a day hospital in cancer patients and in interpreters, in the latter the variables were also analyzed before and after the intervention. The Wilcoxon test was used to analyze the data.
18 patients and 10 music students took part. Variations in vital signs were observed in both groups, as well as a decrease in the level of anxiety in the patients at the post-intervention moment. In the students, the level of anxiety was higher at the beginning of the dress rehearsal compared to the rest of the evaluated moments at the hospital.
live music interventions could improve anxiety levels in both cancer patients and performers.

to map the literature on skin-related quality of life questionnaires and assessment tools applied to cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy who developed radiodermatitis.
scoping review conducted in accordance with JBI recommendations. The search was conducted in seven sources of information and in the grey literature. There were no restrictions on the publication period or language of the articles. A qualitative synthesis of the data was performed, presented descriptively and through tables and figures.
thirty-two studies were included, most of which were from North America (n=14). The instruments used to assess skin-related quality of life were: the Dermatology Life Quality Index (n=17), Skindex-16 (n=11), Skindex-29 (n=1), and Padua Skin-Related Quality of Life (n=1). The most frequently applied instruments were the Dermatology Life Quality Index and Skindex-16, used predominantly in patients with breast cancer.
different instruments used to assess skin-related quality of life in patients with radiodermatitis were identified, with emphasis on Skindex-16 and DLQI. The diversity of tools points to the absence of consolidated guidelines on the choice of the best instrument to be implemented in this clinical context.
用于评估皮肤相关生活质量的工具为:Dermatology life quality Index (n=17)、Skindex-16 (n=11)、Skindex-29 (n=1)和Padua skin-related life quality (n=1)。

to identify the prevalence of alcohol consumption patterns among Primary Health Care users and the association between risky, harmful, and probable dependence consumption patterns with sociodemographic, clinical, and behavioral characteristics.
cross-sectional study conducted with a sample of 2,178 participants who responded to the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test in primary health care services in the city of São Paulo. Descriptive and multiple inferential statistical analysis was performed using a hierarchical Poisson regression model with a significance level of 5%.
of the total number of participants, 18.9% met the criteria for harmful alcohol consumption. Determinants for risky and harmful alcohol consumption were male gender (PR = 1.89; 95% CI 1.57-2.28; p < 0.001), black race/color (PR = 1.65; 95% CI 1.30 - 2.10; p < 0.001), and income ≥ 10 minimum wages (PR = 1.78; 95% CI 1.07 - 2.99; p = 0.028). For probable dependence, lower educational level (PR = 13.70; 95% CI 1.56-117.63; p = 0.017) and reporting a diagnosis of depression (PR = 2.72; 95% CI 1.37-5.41; p = 0.005) were determinants.
the prevalence of alcohol use disorders among users of primary health care services in São Paulo was higher than that observed in previous studies, suggesting that this segment of the population seeks health care at these services, highlighting the potential for screening and early diagnosis of the population.

to map cases and deaths from COVID-19 in nursing professionals, estimating their incidence and fatality rates by region and federative units, and verify the existence of spatial patterns among the federative units.
ecological study based on the electronic portals Observatório de Enfermagem and Enfermagem em Números, with analysis using the R 4.3.1 software. The incidence and fatality rates were calculated, and choropleth maps were constructed by region and federative units. The Global Moran Index was used to verify spatial autocorrelation.
the study covered 64,451 cases of COVID-19, with a female predominance (85.2%) and a focus on nursing technicians (59.3%), with a higher percentage in the Southeast region (36.3%). Deaths were predominantly female (68%), with the North region standing out (27.9%). The fatality rate in these cases was highest in the North region (4.25%) and in the state of Amazonas (28.47%). The spatial analysis showed regional variations, with autocorrelation in the overall case fatality rate in 2020 and for nursing technicians, without significant autocorrelation for other categories.
the mapping of COVID-19 cases and deaths in nursing revealed regional disparities and variations in incidence and fatality rates, highlighting the need to discuss the quality of health services and the effectiveness of the government response.

to identify the interactional processes that allow surviving families to cope with the death by suicide of one of their members, to restructure themselves as a unit and transform the experience into a learning experience.
a qualitative, exploratory study, guided by the concept of Family Resilience, in which eight families, who experienced the suicide of one of their members participated. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and the data were submitted to thematic analysis.
the results were organized into four thematic groups and revealed grief, despair, and perplexity of family members who could not understand the reasons for such a radical act; the feelings of pain due to the loss, overlapped with anger, relief and guilt. Blame was shared with other people and the social and health services; and the lessons that the experience provides.
nurses and other healthcare professionals can help surviving families to restructure themselves after the suicide of one of their members, implementing care actions based on repeated assessments of the repercussions of suicide on the family as a whole and on its members individually; identifying the most compromised dimensions of family life; individual and family needs; and family resilience processes.

to evaluate defining characteristics of nursing diagnoses that are predictors of mental health disorders among undergraduate students in the post-COVID-19 era.
cross-sectional, multicenter study conducted with undergraduate students from four public universities in the state of Minas Gerais. Data were collected through a structured, online questionnaire with sociodemographic and clinical variables. The presence of defining characteristics included in the Nursing Diagnoses of Anxiety, Change Stress Syndrome; Post-Trauma Syndrome; Stress Overload and Chronic Sadness, present in the NANDA-I taxonomy, was also investigated through self-report. The Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale and the Impact of Events Scale-Revised were also used. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the defining characteristics that were configured as predictors of mental health disorders. Adjusted odds ratios were estimated, along with 95% confidence intervals, at 5% significance.
2,349 undergraduate students participated in the study. The presence of 24 physical, behavioral, cognitive, and emotional defining characteristics of the nursing diagnoses in question was investigated. Of these, 13 emerged as predictors for anxiety symptoms; 15 for stress symptoms; 11 for depression symptoms; and 15 for post-traumatic stress disorder.
physical, behavioral, cognitive, and emotional defining characteristics of NANDA-I nursing diagnoses were evidenced as predictors for the development of mental health disorders in university students in the post-COVID-19 era.

to explore health literacy among main caregivers of Children with Special Health Care Needs by identifying limitations and potentialities and their relationship with socioeconomic variables, information sources and social support.
a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study conducted with 139 caregivers. The data were collected between December 2022 and April 2023 in a hospital from southern Brazil, by means of the Children with Special Health Care Needs Screener, the Health Literacy Questionnaire and a characterization questionnaire. The analysis involved descriptive and inferential statistics.
a number of limitations were identified in active care, social support and ability to find good health information. Diverse potentialities were noticed in assessing the information and interacting with health professionals. There was a positive association between the "Schooling level" and "Family income" variables and the "Feel understood and supported by healthcare providers" ( p =0.006), "Have social support for health" ( p =0.000) and "Appraise health information" ( p =0.038) scales.
the interventions for caregivers should strengthen active care, social support and access to information, considering the influence exerted by the socioeconomic factors and the importance of good communication with health professionals to improve access, understanding and leverage of the guidelines, thus enhancing care quality and safety.
