Educational video for self-care with arteriovenous fistula in renal patients: randomized clinical trial. 肾病患者动静脉瘘自我护理教育视频:随机临床试验。

Objective: to evaluate the effect of an educational video on the knowledge, attitude, and practice of self-care with arteriovenous fistula in patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment.

Method: randomized controlled clinical trial, with two arms and single-blind. The intervention used an educational video on arteriovenous fistula self-care. The Fistula Self-Care Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Scale was applied to 27 renal patients on hemodialysis in the control group and 28 in the intervention group at baseline, after seven and fourteen days. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software, using the chi-square test, Student's t-test, Mann-Whitney test, and Friedman's test with post-hoc analysis for multiple comparisons.

Results: there were statistically significant differences in the knowledge and practice of self-care with the fistula at 0, 7 and, 14 days in the intervention (p= 0.004 and p<0.001, respectively) and control groups (p<0.001 for knowledge and practice). Attitude showed a significant difference at follow-up (p<0.001), but the post-hoc analysis did not confirm the significance obtained.

Conclusion: patients' knowledge and practice showed significant increases at follow-up in the control and intervention groups, while the increase in attitude was not significant in either group. Clinical trial, registration number: U1111-1241-6730.

Role adoption, anxiety, depression and loneliness in family caregivers of patients with chronic diseases. 慢性病患者家庭照顾者的角色采用、焦虑、抑郁和孤独感。

Objective: to describe and explore the relationship of loneliness, anxiety and depression with adoption of the caregiver role among individuals caring for people with chronic diseases in Colombia.

Methods: this was an exploratory and cross-sectional study involving 960 primary caregivers of individuals with chronic diseases. We applied the Caregiver Role Adoption Scale, the University of California at Los Angeles Loneliness Scale, and the Anxiety and Depression Scale. Principal component and multiple correspondence analyses were performed for clustering.

Results: among the participating caregivers, 40.8% reported experiencing depression, 59% reported anxiety, 54.6% reported moderate to severe loneliness, and 88.6% reported satisfactory adoption of the caregiver role. Caregivers who presented basic or insufficient role adoption levels tended to have higher scores for anxiety, depression and loneliness.

Conclusion: adoption of the caregiver role is a mediator in the anxiety, depression and loneliness levels among caregivers. Strategies aimed at supporting caregivers should include training for the caregiver role to mitigate the negative impacts of anxiety, depression and loneliness. (1) More than half of the caregivers reported moderate or severe anxiety and loneliness. (2) Caregivers with low role adoption levels presented more anxiety, depression and loneliness. (3) Satisfactory adoption of the caregiver role reduces anxiety, depression and loneliness. (4) Role adoption should be intervened to reduce the impact on caregivers' mental health.

Efficacy of a program in increasing coping strategies in firefighters: randomized clinical trial. 一项提高消防员应对策略的计划的效果:随机临床试验。

Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of a program in increasing coping strategies focused on military firefighters' problems and emotions.

Method: randomized, parallel, single-masked clinical trial. The sample consisted of 51 participants in the intervention group and 49 in the control group. The intervention group received the intervention program including coping strategies based on the Nursing Interventions Classification, lasting six consecutive weeks, one day a week. The control group followed the Service Unit routine. Descriptive statistics, Student's T test with Welch's correction and the Mann-Whitney test were used for the analyses. The magnitude of the intervention effect was calculated using Cohen's d index. A p-value of ≤0.05% was considered.

Results: in the analysis of the mean difference between the scores in the groups, the means of the intervention group increased significantly for the coping strategies: social support (p = 0.009), acceptance of responsibility (p = 0.03), problem solving (p = 0.05) and positive reappraisal (p = 0.05). The impact of the intervention was moderate in magnitude for social support (d = 0.54).

Conclusion: the intervention program enabled the increase of coping strategies focused on military firefighters' problems and emotions. ReBEC: RBR-8dmbzc. Terminology subset for the International Classification of Nursing Practice in Diabetes Mellitus. 国际糖尿病护理实践分类》术语子集。

Objective: to describe the process of developing a terminological subset for the International Classification of Nursing Practice in Diabetes Mellitus, based on Horta's Basic Human Needs Theory and Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory.

Method: a methodological study based on the identification in the literature of 313 statements of nursing diagnoses pertinent to diabetes care, selected and validated by a consensus of nurses from different states of Brazil, specialists in diabetes, using the nominal group technique.

Results: 156 nursing diagnosis/result statements were selected, of which 111 (71.15%) related to psychobiological needs, 42 (26.92%) to psychosocial needs and three (1.92%) to psychospiritual needs. A total of 433 nursing interventions were developed. The diagnostic statements were validated on the basis of a consensus among the experts, with an average content validity index of 0.89: 0.87 for psychobiological needs, 0.93 for psychosocial needs, and 0.77 for psychospiritual needs.

Conclusion: the study validated the terminological subset for the International Classification of Nursing Practice in Diabetes, favoring clinical reasoning, the qualification of the Nursing Process, and the improvement of self-care practices in diabetes. It has made it possible to use nursing's own language based on a globally recognized classification. (1) Provision of the guiding document for nursing practice in diabetes. (2) Methodological innovation in the development of ICNP® subsets. (3) Advances in knowledge of the basic human needs of people with diabetes. (4) The potential of standardized language for coding and monitoring data. (5) Improving clinical reasoning during nursing consultations.

Objective: to assess the effectiveness of an educational video on hospitalized patients' knowledge of safe practices in the perioperative period.

Method: randomized, double-blind controlled trial carried out in a teaching hospital in the countryside of Minas Gerais. 100 participants undergoing elective orthopaedic surgery were randomly allocated (50 participants in the experimental group and 50 participants in the control group). Patient knowledge was assessed using a questionnaire constructed by the researchers and validated by specialists, before and after the intervention (educational video) or standard guidelines were applied. Descriptive statistics were used for quantitative variables and Student's t-test for independent samples to analyze the mean difference in knowledge between the experimental and control groups (α = 0.05).

Results: 100 participants took part in the study, 50 participants in the experimental group and 50 participants in the control group. The experimental group showed a significantly higher gain in knowledge (t =3.72 ±1.84; p<0.001) than the control group. Cohen's d was 1.22, indicating a large magnitude of the effect.

Conclusion: the educational video was effective in improving patients' knowledge and can contribute to nurses in the practice of health education, optimizing time and disseminating knowledge about safe practices in the perioperative period. Descriptive statistics were used for quantitative variables and Student's t-test for independent samples to analyze the mean difference in knowledge between the experimental and control groups (α = 0.05).</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>100 participants took part in the study, 50 participants in the experimental group and 50 participants in the control group. The experimental group showed a significantly higher gain in knowledge (t =3.72 ±1.84; p<0.001) than the control group. Cohen's d was 1.22, indicating a large magnitude of the effect.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>the educational video was effective in improving patients' knowledge and can contribute to nurses in the practice of health education, optimizing time and disseminating knowledge about safe practices in the perioperative period. Objective: to evaluate the usability of the ROBOVID mobile application for health education about COVID-19.

Method: methodological study with an applied quantitative approach, developed with 21 adults, using an electronic form. Usability was assessed using the System Usability Scale. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software was used to analyze the data.

Results: the overall average score on the System Usability Scale questionnaire was 87.3, which classifies the usability of the ROBOVID application as the best achievable. Furthermore, the application has high scores for ease of memorization, user satisfaction and ease of getting to know the system, as well as excellent scores for absence of errors and speed in carrying out the tasks set.

Conclusion: the ROBOVID application complies with the principles of usability in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and satisfaction in the evaluation of end users, showing that the application meets consumer needs in terms of its functionalities, demonstrating its viability in terms of the initial objectives. Association between childhood trauma and postpartum depression among Brazilian puerperal women. 巴西产后妇女的童年创伤与产后抑郁症之间的关系。

Objective: to evaluate the association between different forms of childhood trauma and postpartum depression in Brazilian puerperal women.

Method: this cross-sectional survey included 253 puerperal women who were evaluated using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to verify the association of different types of trauma and the co-occurrence of forms of abuse and neglect with postpartum depression.

Results: postpartum depression was identified in 93 women (36.8%; 95% Confidence Interval: 30.8-42.7). All forms of childhood trauma assessed (emotional abuse, emotional neglect, physical abuse, physical neglect and sexual abuse) were independently associated with postpartum depression after adjusting for confounding variables. Emotional abuse remained associated with postpartum depression when the co-occurrence of all forms of childhood trauma was analyzed.

Conclusion: the results suggest an association between the different forms of childhood trauma and postpartum depression. In this sense, childhood trauma is an indicator for Nursing professionals to screen for risk factors of postpartum depression during obstetric_follow-up.

Objective: to develop and validate a mobile application for teaching undergraduates about the first nursing visit to a newborn in primary care.

Method: methodological study with an Instructional Design framework; content drawn up from scientific documents on caring for newborns and their families, supported by the results of an integrative review on the subject. The Integrated Development Environment Android Studio 4.0.1 tool and the IntelliJ IDEA platform were used to build the digital technology. Experts validated content and students evaluated navigability.

Results: the final version of the mobile application contains 67 screens grouped into 12 sections with random access. The device is presented on the introductory screen; this is followed by content on the physical examination, neonatal screening, nutrition, oral health, the vaccination calendar, growth, development, danger signs, and accident prevention; at the end, there is a fact sheet and references. Audiovisual resources (texts, images, and videos) complement the application; experts presented a Content Validity Index (CVI) = 1.00; for nursing students all the items had a CVI = 1.00; only the item "layout and presentation" had a CVI = 0.95.

Conclusion: the digital technology received a satisfactory evaluation from experts and students. It is innovative in child health care, with the potential to be used in the teaching-learning process of nursing students.

Objective: to build and validate a simulation-based education roadmap on suicide prevention in the virtual environment.

Method: methodological research subdivided into a development and validation stage. The roadmap was built using a previously drafted template based on international guidelines on good clinical simulation practices and scientific literature on suicide prevention in the virtual environment. For validation, the roadmap was validated by experts through self-application of an assessment form with answers based on "adequate, fair, and inadequate", with a field for suggestions. Descriptive statistics and the Content Validity Index (CVI≥0.8) were used.

Results: nine experts took part in the study, the majority of whom were nurses (66.7%), female (55.6%), with an average age of 42.22 years. All the items in the roadmap met the acceptance criteria (CVI≥0.8).

Conclusion: this study provides a useful roadmap for teaching suicide prevention in the virtual environment.

Perceived stress, optimism-pessimism, psychological adjustment, and death distress of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19大流行期间护士的压力感知、乐观-悲观情绪、心理调整和死亡困扰。

Objective: the aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between death distress, psychological adjustment, optimism, pessimism and perceived stress among nurses working during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Method: this study was designed as cross-sectional/cohort. The population of the study involved 408 nurses from Northern Cyprus, which are registered as full members of the Nurse Council. The sample comprised 214 nurses, who volunteered to participate in the study. The study data was collected using a web-based online survey (Demographic form, the Coronavirus Stress Measure, The Optimism and Pessimism Questionnaire, The Brief Adjustment Scale-6, The Death Distress Scale).

Results: the results indicated that perceived stress significantly and negatively predicted optimism (β = -0.21, p < 0.001) and pessimism (β = 0.38, p < 0.001). Perceived stress had significant and positive predictive effects on psychological adjustment (β = 0.31, p < 0.001) and death distress (β = 0.17, p < 0.01). Further analysis results revealed that pessimism mediates the association of stress with psychological adjustment and death distress; however, optimism only mediates the effect of stress on psychological adjustment among nurses.

Conclusion: a low level of pessimism is effective in strengthening nurses' psychological adjustment skills againt perceived stress and death distress. Nurses should consider behavioral strategies to help reduce the level of pessimism during periods such as pandemics.

Background: (1) High levels of perceived stress increased higher score of psychological adjustment. (2) Pessimism mediates the association of stress with adjustment and death distress. (3) Optimism only mediates the effect of stress on psychological adjustment among nurses.

{"title":"Perceived stress, optimism-pessimism, psychological adjustment, and death distress of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic.","authors":"Dilek Sarpkaya Güder, Gökmen Arslan, Firdevs Erdemir","doi":"10.1590/1518-8345.7068.4173","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1590/1518-8345.7068.4173","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Objective: </strong>the aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between death distress, psychological adjustment, optimism, pessimism and perceived stress among nurses working during the COVID-19 pandemic.</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>this study was designed as cross-sectional/cohort. The population of the study involved 408 nurses from Northern Cyprus, which are registered as full members of the Nurse Council. The sample comprised 214 nurses, who volunteered to participate in the study. The study data was collected using a web-based online survey (Demographic form, the Coronavirus Stress Measure, The Optimism and Pessimism Questionnaire, The Brief Adjustment Scale-6, The Death Distress Scale).</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>the results indicated that perceived stress significantly and negatively predicted optimism (β = -0.21, p < 0.001) and pessimism (β = 0.38, p < 0.001). Perceived stress had significant and positive predictive effects on psychological adjustment (β = 0.31, p < 0.001) and death distress (β = 0.17, p < 0.01). Further analysis results revealed that pessimism mediates the association of stress with psychological adjustment and death distress; however, optimism only mediates the effect of stress on psychological adjustment among nurses.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>a low level of pessimism is effective in strengthening nurses' psychological adjustment skills againt perceived stress and death distress. Nurses should consider behavioral strategies to help reduce the level of pessimism during periods such as pandemics.</p><p><strong>Background: </strong>(1) High levels of perceived stress increased higher score of psychological adjustment. (2) Pessimism mediates the association of stress with adjustment and death distress.
