The business model of open-source actors has received particular attention from researchers. However, these studies have not thoroughly investigated the role of branding in this area. Here we propose a case study focusing on a small open-source publisher, Xwiki, which demonstrates how branding can play a crucial role in articulating the two pillars of the business model: the creation and capture of value. We show that synergistic management of the brand and the developer community - while maintaining a high degree of control over both - can allow for exploiting their complementarities

This article examines the development of the security function in French companies as a tool for managing their criminal environment. More specifically, we show that the terms “security” and “safety” describe different realities corresponding to particular environmental constraints and that, under specific conditions, they are activities that must be dealt with separately. We justify this finding on the fact that criminal activity is a source of uncertainty rather than risk. By doing so, we show that, in addition to some already identified contingency factors, especially the size of the organization, the international criminal environment of companies must be seen as a specific contingency factor

This paper refines existing literature on supply chain integration (SCI) by exploring its possible adverse effects on higher levels of SCI on firm performance. Furthermore, we explain how trust offsets the negative effects of increased integration. Based on data gathered from 152 firms in the United States, our research reveals two important results: (1) an inverted U-shaped relationship exists between supplier integration and firm performance, (2) the levels of trust attenuate the effects of increased integration on firm performance. Finally, using the relational view and transaction costs theory, we discuss the theoretical and managerial implications of our research results.

This study analyzes qualitatively nine interactional coping solutions (ICS) in the post-adoption stage of information technology implementation at a French legal firm to understand the impact of these solutions on managing technostress. We captured the impact of interactional coping solutions (ICS) and noticed certain limitations within the firm that can impact the performance of interactional coping solutions (ICS) in managing technostress. These limitations include a lack of creative interaction between colleagues at the group level and of organizational commitment to the digitalization process.

The lack of consensus on the definition of concepts such as “culture” and “development” as well as the dominance of modernization theory explain the difficulties faced in identifying a clear theoretical framework for understanding the influence of culture both on economic development trajectories and organizational practices. In this article, I will examine the main controversies that have shaped the literature within which the relationship between culture, economic development and management has been debated. Then, I will highlight the need to go beyond the tradition/modernity dichotomy associated with modernization theory to offer new ways of thinking about the influence of culture in building and implementing effective organizational practices in countries from the Global South.

The aim of this paper is to identify, through the discourse, the managerial sustainable behaviors that lead to both financial and extra-financial performance. Under the prism of alignment and instrumental theories on corporate social responsibility (CSR), we investigate the moderating role of CEOs by examining the interrelation between CEOs’ introductory discourses in sustainability reports and financial and extra-financial performance. Through the use of a logit model and textual analysis, we conduct a longitudinal analysis on firms listed on the S&P500 between 2014 and 2019 in three sectors. We find that CEOs’ discourse is interrelated with financial and extra financial performance. Their discourse is a key factor in understanding whether CEOs’ CSR strategies meet the main sectorial strategic issues.

This paper demonstrates the impact of the participation of corporate venture capital (CVC) funds and independent venture capital (IVC) funds in syndicated investments. We examine the dynamics of the impact of these syndications and the channels (industry fit and location fit) that improve innovation effectiveness. Based on the main sample of 5182 US. funded companies between 1998 and 2017, there is strong evidence of an existing superiority of CVC engagement in syndications (CVC/IVC) that can further boost the innovation output contribution. Additionally, the results show that industry and location fit augment the innovation output of the entrepreneurial companies.
