This paper reports the case of one district of Verona, precisely Veronetta, located near the historical center of the town, that shows broad sociospatial dynamics. Given its territorial history, the compresence of attraction and repulsion factors as well as the recent pushes exerted by movements carried out by active citizenship (such as the spontaneous aggregation in a social street, the subsidiarity pacts, or the community cinema project), Veronetta reveals all the richness and criticality of a portion of the town looking for a definition of its meaning in the wider context of the urban area.

The research deepens the role of new technologies in the construction of geographical imaginaries investigating the dimension of the offer related to the cultural heritage of the city of Palermo. The study was conducted using qualitative methods and provided for the application of two research techniques: participant observation and semi-structured interviews. By interpreting the results produced, the contribution aims to highlight the predominance of an urban image, linked to the UNESCO inclusion of the site in the World Heritage List, which is conveyed through new technologies. Developing a reflection on the alternative capacity of new media to dislocate and challenge shared images, the study will also examine the role of technologies in the production of imaginative counter-geographies.

The article aims to introduce the practices of social geography through the description of the conceptual and practical path on the territory that led to picking up the study case and the implementation of the research. After a conceptual introduction on the ethical motivations of those who want to do social geography and having indicated which tools the geographer can use and which practices are more useful, the article outlines the theoretical and geographical context of the identified case study, and then move on to the description of the concrete aspects of the observed experience. The conclusion is actually only an update of how the experience resisted the impact of the pandemic and how the expressed ideal references and the concrete experience maintain their continuity and coherence over time

Lampedusa is an emblematic place of migration in the Mediterranean basin. This is due to the process of borderscaping constructed by the passage of migrants, the narratives on their arrivals, the national and international policies and the interventions of NGOs and volunteers who cross the island space. I will reconstruct how volunteer tourists’ experiences can give voice to alternative narratives beyond the monolithic one of the migration islands. Lampedusa becomes a space for building bonds and relationships. Furthermore, I will reflect on the restitution of my research in a context which involves mobile people and a global pandemic.

Understanding the migration phenomenon requires an in-depth analysis of different kind of sources, oral testimonies, and multiple perspectives. The research has focused on international trans-mediterranean migrations in Sardinia, on the organisation and the perception of the reception system and its consequences on the relation between migrant citizens and local communities. The paper shows the different methodological approaches used during the research to analyse the logistic and administration of the reception system and their implications on the territory in its complex aspects.

In the analysis of the relationship between social and spatial dynamics, the peripheries assume, from the perspective of social geography, the role of an ideal laboratory for observing and interpreting the conditions of discomfort and marginalization. The contribution focuses on Scampia, the northern district of the city of Naples, which represents, together with other Italian suburbs, a context where the gaze that is exercised is too often conditioned by a stigma of decay, also fueled by some media simplifications. Through the reconstruction of the genesis and history of this district, with the contribution of the various land surveys carried out, we try to return a more articulated vision.
