The goal of this is study is to determine whether the perception of fairness regarding the dimensions of the Management Control Systems increases managers’ commitment and confidence. Thus, a descriptive research was carried out through a survey of 500 companies listed among the Best and Biggest by Exame Magazine, from which 180 agreed to participate in the study. The final sample consisted of 67 respondents. The instrument used consists of 26 statements, with seven-point Likert interval scales of measurement. The assumptions made in the study were tested with the application of a statistical multivariate analysis technique called Structural Equation Modeling. The survey results show that the controllability principle and the use of multiple performance indicators increase the perception of distributive and procedural fairness; the perception of interactional and procedural fairness dimensions increase managers’ commitment; and managers’ confidence is influenced by perceptions of distributive and interactional fairness. Based on these results we conclude that managers’ commitment and confidence can be prominent attitudinal and behavioral factors in reducing retaliatory actions caused by a sense of organizational unfairness.

In the academic community there is a growing concern with the issue of social impact: the benefits that teaching and research institutions bring to society. This paper seeks to contribute to the debate on the social impact Brazilian graduate management programs have. It is based upon scientific literature on social impact and presents an exploratory study of three social impact dimensions: (a) the training of researchers in doctoral programs, focusing on graduates and their insertion in the labor market; (b) the use of knowledge generated by each program's researchers, as measured by the institutional H factor, using the Publish or Perish (PoP) software to survey the Google Scholar database; and (c) the citation of researchers and their studies in business media, measured through a survey of articles published in the most relevant Brazilian media outlets. These three dimensions were measured in four graduate programs: FEA-USP, FGV-EAESP, PPGA-UFRGS and CEPEAD-UFMG. The results show significant differences among the programs, favoring the oldest ones, which are located in Sao Paulo. The conclusion is that there are opportunities to improve social impacts in these three dimensions and recommended measures are suggested to help meet this goal. The study also indicates directions to develop further knowledge about what social impacts Brazilian graduate management programs can have.

Due to the need to better understand the relationship between sustainability strategies and Information Technology (IT), this research aims to analyze the adoption of Green IT initiatives in organizations by specifically examining the adoption motives, implemented practices, perceived benefits and difficulties. To this end, we conducted three case studies with companies from different economic sectors, Orlikowski's research (1992) was fundamental in contributing to the theoretical framework. We found that most Green IT initiatives can be categorized within the intersections formed by the three sustainability dimensions - environmental, social and economic - and a fourth dimension called legal. Furthermore, we found the implementation of these practices started by identifying financial and operational benefits associated with their adoption. The results reveal that environmental benefits emerge as a positive consequence of changes caused by legal and economic aspects. We hope this study can help executives in planning and implementation of Green IT in their organizations, as well as for researchers interested in researching this topic.

This work aims to identify the existence of explanatory factors for real-estate pricing, focusing on homes in the Rio de Janeiro e Sao Paulo markets. We tried to model prices as a function of supply and demand factors, and then proceed to evaluate to what extent adding behavioral and economic factors helps improve explanation of price movements. The results suggest that home pricing is explained by variables not usually used in economic theory, such as the previous month's price, expectation measurement and stock exchange performance.

Reputation systems play an important role in the current electronic commerce scenario, as formulation and standardization of indices for web-stores contribute to determine customers’ buying decisions. In light of the theoretical relationship between the constructs trust and reputation, this paper intends to analyze the coherence between evaluation indexes built by reputation systems from two big business review sites. We used data from 90 Brazilian e-commerce companies (that maintain .br domains) which have achieved both reputation seals and trust seals. An ANOVA test was used in order to compare the mean of the reputation index of companies that have different trust seals. Results showed no coherence between the reputation systems and also increased the likelihood of existence of other predictive variables in this theoretical model, when it comes to assessing indices provided for those companies. This paper’s conclusions highlight the need for new studies which will allow the comprehension of particularities and variables related to reputation systems in Brazil and thus lead to a more accurate understanding of the theoretical relationship between trust and reputation.

While organizations acquire new knowledge, a process called organizational learning, they also discard obsolete knowledge, a process called organizational unlearning. Organizational unlearning focuses on the disposal of old routines to make way for new ones, and its study has received limited attention from research. Thus, due to the need for greater understanding of the unlearning process, the study presented here aims to describe the organizational unlearning process in a public organization, a context even less studied than private organizations. For this, support by the theory of organizational routines, we used field research to describe the organizational unlearning process in one of Colleges of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. Among other things, changes were found to act as levers for organizational unlearning, and organizational learning and unlearning are closely linked through the introduction and disposal of organizational routines.

This work investigates the contemporary scientific literature on leadership published in The Leadership Quarterly (LQ), the leading international journal devoted exclusively to the subject. The study is based on the application of the bibliometric method to 368 articles published by the journal in the last six years, and examines their authorship, origin, and theoretical orientation, as well as their citations and co-citations. The analysis indicates that the New Leadership Theories (Charismatic, Transactional and Transformational Leadership) and the Leader-Member Exchange Theory (LMX) are the dominant theoretical approaches in the journal. These articles are largely guided by a positivist stance on the subject and apply quantitative research methodologies. These observations are discussed as to their implications for the dissemination of the scientific literature on leadership in the national and international contexts.

The purpose of this paper is to seek to understand how the recursive process related to organizational capacity for absorption and learning occurs through social integration mechanisms, as exemplified in the implementation of the Parana Digital Program in two public education institutions in Curitiba, Parana, during the period from 2007 to 2013. The methodology used was qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive, accomplished by means of a comparative case strategy with a temporal cross-sectional perspective. Data collection was accomplished through interviews, document analysis and participant observation. Content analysis was used to comprehend the data obtained. Results show that a completed absorption capacity process leads to full organizational learning, and that faults in one process impact the other, demonstrating a recursive relationship mediated by social integration mechanisms.
