Objetive: To develop a care plan focused on assisting a puerperal woman who decides to feed their child through breastfeeding on the contralateral breast.
Methods: A case study conducted with a 36-year-old primiparous woman who underwent tumorectomy and left axillary emptying, chemotherapy and radiotherapy 8 years ago. The data were collected in the Nursing process, with initial assessment using the Marjory Gordon functional health patterns. The care plan used the NANDA-I, NIC and NOC taxonomies.
Results: Three diagnoses were identified: [00208] Readiness for Enhanced Childbearing Process, [00106] Readiness for Enhanced Breastfeeding and [00167] Readiness for Enhanced Self-Concept. The indicators were evaluated in the initial and later phase, with gains in the first two diagnoses. The third diagnosis proved to be partially sufficient, as it did not allow assessing the developmental and non-pathological self-image in the puerperium. In the puerperal phase, maternal roles are challenging and demanding. Nursing care contributed to the adaptation to breastfeeding in the contralateral breast and to the guarantee of adequate nutrition for the newborn. The childbearing process was strengthened. Breastfeeding is carried out with maternal satisfaction, good latch and normal weight evolution in the newborn.
Conclusions: The case study strengthened knowledge by addressing a little investigated theme. The NANDA-I taxonomy may need further study in the Self-perception domain, more specifically in the self-image reported during the pregnancy-puerperal phase.

Objetive: Preparing parents to care for their preterm children is one of the principal challenges faced by nursing professionals within the neonatal care contexts. This process seeks for parents to acquire the skills to safely provide the differential care required by children at home given their prematurity condition. The preparation for discharge is complex and multidimensional, involving aspects that have to do with the knowledge, skills for caring, security, and trust to transit and take care of the children at home. This process is conducted in the neonatal unit gradually, in function of the clinical evolution of the children and the adaptation of the parents to the situation, considering their individual, family, social, and cultural characteristics. This article describes the principal aspects related with the preparation for discharge and the transition to the home, contents of the education that must be provided to the parents or principal caregivers, and the recommendations for the professional practice regarding these types of educational processes, aimed at making visible and facilitating the nursing role and follow up of results in the health and wellbeing of the preterm children, their parents, and families.

Objectives: To determine the effect of fear and coping with death on compassion fatigue in nurses working in the intensive care unit.
Methods: Correlational-predictive design, applied in 245 nurses working in the intensive care unit through intentional sampling. The study applied a personal data card, the Collet-Lester Fear of Death Scale (α=0.72), the Bugen Fell of Death Scale (α=0.82), and the Empathy Exhaustion Scale (α=0.80). Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed, such as Spearman's test and a structural equation model.
Results: The work had 255 nurses who participated, finding a relationship among fear and coping toward death and compassion fatigue (p<0.01), together with the equation model showing that fear and coping toward death have a positive effect in 43.6% on compassion fatigue.
Conclusions: Fear and coping with death have an effect on compassion fatigue in nurses working in the intensive care unit, so that when working in a critical area it can cause health effects.

Objectives: This study evaluates the effects of mobile-based education (MBE) on nurse self-concept (NSC) among nursing students.
Methods: This embedded mixed methods study was conducted in 2020-2021 in a main quantitative phase and a supplementary qualitative phase. In the quantitative phase, a quasi-experimental study with the Solomon four-group design was conducted on 117 second-year nursing students of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran. 70 students in the first (C1: n=37) and the second (C2: n=33) semesters of the 2020 academic year were respectively considered as the control groups, and 40 students in the first semester of the 2021 academic year considered as the experimental groups (I1: n=20 and I2: n=20). Participants in the experimental groups received NSC-related MBE through an Android application, while their counterparts in the control groups received no NSC-related MBE. Cowin's Nurse Self-Concept Questionnaire was used to assess the NSC. In the qualitative phase, six students from the experimental groups were purposively selected and interviewed through face-to-face semi-structured interviews. Moreover, two focus group discussions were held with a six-person and a five-person group of students from the experimental groups.
Results: While the mean scores of NSC and its dimensions did not significantly change in the C1 group, the posttest mean scores of them in the E1 group were significantly greater than the corresponding pretest values (p<0.05), expect for the care dimension (p=0.586). Moreover, except for the care dimension (p>0.05), the posttest means scores of NSC and its other dimensions in the E1 and the E2 groups were significantly greater than the C1 and the C2 groups, respectively (p<0.05). Analysis of the qualitative data resulted in the generation of the main theme of multidimensional growth and development with three main categories, namely development of coping strategies, knowing professionalization strategies, and development of managerial potentials.
Conclusions: NSC-related MBE is effective in improving nursing students' NSC.

Abstract Objective. The work sough to know the adaptation strategies of students from Universidad del Quindío with motor functional diversity. Method. Descriptive qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through an in-depth interview with nine undergraduate students with moderate motor functional diversity, in face-to-face class attendance modality during the period 2022-2 at Universidad del Quindío (Colombia) with age ≥ 18 years and having scored from 20 - 40 in the Barthel index. The definition of the number of participants was conducted through theoretical saturation. Results. Seven categories emerged from the descriptive analysis of the interviews: 1) support; 2) affection; 3) life project; 4) personal growth; 5) spirituality; 6) autonomy, and 7) education. Together, they reveal important aspects on the way students have adapted to the university campus and how interpersonal relations can contribute to promoting resilience processes. Conclusion. Support and affection provided by the social setting play a fundamental role in the adaptation of students with motor functional diversity, improving their mental health, generating resilience, and increasing their self-esteem. Noting that in spite of lifestyle changes after the acquisition of the diversity, the students set novel goals and develop new abilities that contribute to complying with their life project; likewise, they have set into practice and can recognize their coping mechanisms, acquiring qualities, like resilience and autonomy.

Objectives: This work sought to establish the relationship between the degree of dependency with hospitalization time of patients intervened surgically in a regional hospital of Peru.
Methods: The study was analytical, cross- sectional with retrospective data collection, studying 380 patients treated in the surgical service at Regional hospital Docente in the municipality of Cajamarca (Peru). The patients' demographic and clinical information was obtained from the daily care records in the hospital's surgery service. The univariate description was conducted through absolute and relative frequencies and confidence intervals for proportions at 95%; for the association between the degree of dependency and hospitalization time Log Rank (Mantel-Cox) - Chi-square was applied, as well as the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, with statistical significance of p<0.05.
Results: The study had 53.4% male patients, with mean age of 35.3 years, referrals from operating room (64.7%), surgery specialty (66.6%) and the most- frequent surgical intervention was appendectomy (49.7%). Mean hospitalization time was 10 days; 88.1% of the patients had grade-II dependency. The degree of patient dependency had a significant impact on the days of post- surgery hospitalization with direct relationship between both variables (p=0.038).
Conclusions: Hospitalization time is determined by the degree of dependency of patients subjected to a surgical intervention; thereby, it is fundamental to anticipate all the necessary resources for proper care management.

Objectives: This work sought to validate the Spanish version of the scale Healthy Aging Brain-Care Monitor (HABC-M) scale as clinical tool to detect the Post-intensive Care Syndrome.
Methods: Psychometric study, conducted in adult intensive care units from two high-complexity university hospitals in Colombia. The sample was integrated by 135 survivors of critical diseases with mean age of 55 years. The translation of the HABC-M was carried out through transcultural adaptation, evaluating content, face, and construct validity and determining the scale's reliability.
Results: A replica was obtained of the HABC-M scale in its version into Spanish, semantically and conceptually equivalent to the original version. The construct was determined through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), evidencing a three-factor model comprised of the subscales: cognitive (6 items), functional (11 items), and psychological (10 items), with a confirmatory factor index (CFI) of 0.99, a Tucker Lewis index (TLI) of 0.98, and an approximate root-mean-square error (RMSE) of 0.073 (90% CI: 0.063 - 0.084). Internal consistency was determined through Cronbach's alpha coefficient, obtaining 0.94, (95% CI 0.93 - 0.96).
Conclusions: The Spanish of the HABC-M scale is a tool with adequate psychometric properties, validated and reliable to detect the Post-intensive Care Syndrome.

Objectives: To investigate the lived experience of family caregivers of persons with tuberculosis.
Methods: In this study, the method of hermeneutic phenomenology. Data were collected through online in-depth semi-structured interviews with nine family caregivers of TB patients. The obtained data were thematically analyzed to explain the concept of home care for TB patients through van Manen's 6-step methodology.
Results: After the thematic analysis, three main themes of caregivers' mental distresses, quality care stasis, and facilitated care were obtained from 944 primary codes and 11 categories.
Conclusions: Family caregivers of these patients suffer from mental distress. This issue affects the quality and ease of caregiving for these patients. Therefore, policymakers of this area should pay attention to the family caregivers of these patients and attempt to provide support; they should try to improve their quality of life.

Objectives: This work sought to describe the adaptation process by men to the nurse role.
Methods: Secondary analysis of data from a collective case study that had as participants 12 male nurses working in the city of Medellín, with ages between 28 and 47 years and average time of professional experience of 11 years. Information collection was carried out through in-depth interviews. The analysis was conducted through Roy s Adaptation Model (RAM), reading of the interviews, identification of RAMs components, grouping of fragments, assignment of tags, construction of a matrix and classification.
Results: The analysis performed accounts for the coping processes and adaptation by male nurses and the ineffective responses (control of emotions and emotional silencing) when practicing a role considered feminine.
Conclusions: In this study, it was possible to establish that, to achieve adaptation within nursing, men use strategies related with changes in bodily appearance, management of physical strength, and management of emotions.
