Some scholars of Malay classics believe that Malay traditional religious books or Kitab Jawi, being a mere translation from Arabic sources, have little practical purposes outside the realm of beliefs, rituals, and family. Considering current commercial development, especially in Islamic banking and finance, the above claims need some qualifications, especially considering no further studies have been conducted to support their conclusion. This is especially so to determine the extent of the remarks made by the authors of Kitab Jawi in their texts whether merely a literal translation of the Arabic texts or containing some new and specific contributions worthwhile investigating. It is therefore the aim of this article to analyse the contents of these Kitab Jawi and compared them with the Arabic sources that they claimed to refer to. It is hoped that this analysis should provide an understanding of these Kitab Jawi can be considered original in respect of discussion and elaboration of translated texts. The analysis will focus on Shaykh Dawud’s work of Nahj al-Raghibin with special reference to the essentials of the sale contract. The selection of the subject of the sale contract is to demonstrate that the authors of Kitab Jawi had some appreciation on the trade and business prevailing during their compilation. The article argues that Nahj is not simply a translation of the Arabic texts, but it is an academic exercise, which consists of selecting, rearranging, and supplementing and presenting ideas and concepts of law.

Various aspects such as character, thought, belief, speech, and action were observed to determine the traits of a typical human being. Identifying the characteristics of extremists can be challenging for society, and often only becomes apparent after an individual has been detained as an extremist offender. Religious extremist groups engage in subtle heresy by deviating from the authentic teachings of Islam and promoting these deviations to their adherents as a form of religious reform. This article will examine the transformation of heretics in Southeast Asia by describing extremist characteristics in select countries. This study employed qualitative methods, including content analysis, interviews, and focus group discussions, to investigate the involvement of experts and activists in the process of rehabilitating extremists. Data on the psychological rehabilitation of extremists was gathered and analyzed using authoritative sources such as the Qur’an, Hadith, and works by Muslim and Western scholars, with a focus on references related to Islam, extremism, and heresy. The study aimed to ascertain the attributes of the extremist who was apprehended and subjected to official scrutiny. The results will be applied to extremist traits data and indicators identified by national and international religious extremist researchers, including extremism analysts, university academics, and religious department officials. Consequently, this study can establish a standard indicator for identifying the characteristics of this group, aiding society in detecting and containing its associated movement.

Cyber ethics awareness and education is crucial when children surf the internet especially during the Covid-19 pandemic situations where internet use is a common norm. During the pandemic, children from preschool until secondary school level had to stay at home and learn online (Teaching and Learning at Home (PdPR)). In this study, interviews are conducted to parents on how children surf the internet during the pandemic and how parents monitor and advise their children. The findings of this research suggest that parental monitoring of children related to cyber issues is equally important for the children. Parents are noticeably given a lot of advice regarding the appropriate way of communicating when playing games, the types of games played by children, the commandments and prohibitions of Allah in Islam, and also the safety and health’s concern of children when playing games. Not only that, but parents also suggested to government agency such as Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to increase regulation on those inapproproate websites in Malaysia and take proactive measures to prevent our personal data be misused by the cyber criminals such as scammers and pornorgraphy’s criminals. Proactive measures need to be taken by the government such as making restrictions on games like Mobile Legend because of the destructive effects it could have on the children’s behavior. Children who are negatively affected by the game will likely stay home most of the time and are reluctant to socialize. Besides, there are also other concerning safety issues raised by parents when children play games such as abusive words, bullies, games addiction and pornography

The soul, also known as al-nafs, is considered the second element in human beings, following the body. It plays a vital role as the overseer and administrator of every human decision and action, requiring a comprehensive understanding of its nature, potential, and ultimate happiness. In the realm of Islamic knowledge, the Qur’an serves as the primary source of reference, encompassing the discourse on al-nafs or the soul. However, this particular issue finds greater prominence within the debates of Islamic philosophers, specifically pertaining to the field of ontology. With this in mind, this article aims to examine one specific aspect of the discussion surrounding al-nafs, namely its creation, through an exploration of relevant verses from the Qur’an and insights drawn from Islamic philosophical sources. The method employed in this study involves analyzing the works of Fakhr al-Din al-Razi, including al-Tafsir al-Kabir, al-Mabahith al-Mashriqiyyah, al-Matalib al-‘Aliyah, and other significant texts representing the disciplines of exegesis and Islamic philosophy. A comprehensive understanding can be attained by examining the continuity of al-Razi’s ideas across these disciplines and comparing them with the perspectives of Abu ‘Ali al-Husayn Ibn ‘Abd Allah Ibn Sina and Abu Hamid Muhammad al-Ghazali. The findings of this article suggest that the soul, al-nafs, is a distinct entity that was created simultaneously with the body. While al-Razi’s opinion appears to align broadly with that of Ibn Sina and al-Ghazali, some shortcomings are identified within Ibn Sina’s viewpoint.

The Covid-19 pandemic has left significant implications on the emotional and psychological health as well as their personal well-being. As an effort in managing the problem, many individuals undergo counselling sessions with counsellors in the hope of gaining emotional and psychological support. However, the continuous dumping of client narratives during the Covid-19 pandemic has led to repercussions on emotional stress such as Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) problems for these counsellors. By considering the solution to this problem from the Islamic perspective that states that human beings are also made up of the spiritual aspect, this study is aimed at developing an Islamic psychospiritual guideline for counsellors on duty during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study is conducted in three phases; the Needs Analysis Phase, Guideline Development Phase and Evaluation Phase. In the Needs Analysis Phase, literature review and interviews are employed to identify the items needed in the development of the guidelines. The guideline development phase is the process of completing the draft guidelines using the psychospiritual counselling theory as the foundation. This theory is an approach that combines the spiritual and religious aspects derived from the Qur’an and Hadith. Next is the evaluation phase where the guidelines developed are evaluated and validated by experts in the field of Islamic counselling, psychology and psychospiritual. This study presents the Islamic psychospiritual guidelines as preparation for counsellors in facing clients in an effort to avoid psychological disorders. The guidelines consist of two classifications namely; 1) mental and emotional preparation as a daily practice, before, during and after a session; and 2) spiritual preparation as a daily practice, before, during and after a session. It is hoped that these guidelines can be applied in the practice among Muslim counsellors as a holistic preparation that embraces the psychological and spiritual balance based on Islamic teachings.

Al-Qur’an has its own beauty secret with various uses of uslub amr. This study aims to identify the implicit or secret meaning of the use of fi‘il amr in the field related to Islamic Creed. This study is a qualitative study that uses al-Awsi’s opinion and text analysis techniques based on the context of the verse by using related interpretations from past and modern scholars. Overall it is found that the use of amr for the context of Islamic Creed in surah al-Mulk is not used in any other form except fi‘il amr only. The study found that there are ten verses that use fi‘il amr for the context of Islamic Creed in surah al-Mulk. The study summarizes that fi‘il amr is used as a very firm and strong instruction on basic matters in the context of faith for matters of al-Ilahiyyat and al-Sam’iyyat because it involves faith in Allah, Angels, the Qur’an, the Messenger and the Day of Judgment which is obligatory believed by Muslims. The uslub amr used in the Qur’an has its own secrets and techniques because it has an implicit meaning for each form of amr. Therefore, the use of amr is planned and not without a specific arrangement. This needs to be learned so that it can be used as a guide and lesson in everyday life.

The strife for equality between men and women is an ideology that has long been propagated by feminists. Among the equalities being propagated is women’s ability to use common sense at par with men to the extent that they proclaim some of the Qur’anic verses and hadiths related to women as irrelevant. To them, the prescribed texts seem to degrade women. To dispute this ideology, the classic and also the present scholars of Islam presented arguments to disprove the notion by the feminists. However, in rebutting this ideology, arguments based on the neuroscience perspective are yet to be discovered. Therefore, this article will incorporate the arguments from the perspectives of naqli (the Qur’an and Hadith) and neuroscience in terms of the different aspects of male and female brain function. This study employs qualitative methods through content analysis of Qur’anic texts, ahadith and neuroscience facts. The findings show that there are differences in the structure and function of the male and female brains. Consequently, there is no such ideology of equality due to the differences in the structure and function of the male and female brains that correspond to their roles and complement each other. It is hoped that this finding will enhance the public understanding that Islam glorifies women and that their obligations as caliphs on this earth are in accordance with their nature, either from the biological, psychological and emotional regards.

Development of human capital refers to the changes upon individuals to attain high moral values, be cultured in manners, have healthy mental intellect, be and able to perform their duty as a caliph in this world. In view of this, Islamic education plays an important role in developing the spirituality of the community of our brothers (mu’alaf). Thus, the objective of this study is to identify the real appreciation of the Islamic education of our brothers and to identify the relationship between Islamic education and the development of the human capital of our brothers in Terengganu. This study uses a qualitative method with a purposive sampling technique in focus group discussion. The result of the study shows that the level of understanding and religiosity appreciation among our brothers in Terengganu is still weak. This study suggests that more effective Islamic education must be reinforced by focusing on the teaching methods carried out. This study is important because it conveys real information on the learning situation and religious appreciation of our brothers in Terengganu which will fill the gap of previous studies.

This study stems from the contribution of al-Imam al-Shaykh Ahmad Qutb al-Din Shah Waliyullah ‘Abd al-Rahim al-Dihlawi or better known by the name of Shah Waliyullah al-Dihlawi (henceforth al-Dihlawi), an Islamic scholar who was born in the 18th century in India. Among his most well-known book is Hujjat Allah al-Balighah which was published in 1732 and has been translated into several languages including English, Indonesian and Malaysian language. This translation explains the importance of this book, especially the influence of al-Dihlawi’s ideas among Muslims outside the region of India. In this context, this study argues that al-Dihlawi’s ideas particularly on the philosophy of taklif in Hujjat Allah al-Balighah has also influenced the thoughts on Islamic literature in Malaysia. These influences are manifested in the postulation of “Persuratan Baru” (translated by Mohd. Affandi as “Genuine Literature”) by Mohd. Affandi Hassan. This study aims to discuss al-Dihlawi’s ideas on the philosophy of taklif in Hujjat Allah al-Balighah, and further conclude on his contributions to Mohd. Affandi Hassan’s Persuratan Baru. This study utilises the content analysis method for analysing study materials which are texts. This study finds that al-Dihlawi’s Hujjat Allah al-Balighah among other explicates the philosophy of taklif which refers to the imposition of divine accountability and responsibility upon man. By utilizing taklif, Persuratan Baru frames literary activity in the context of fitrah, i.e., the natural human inclination to submit to Allah S.W.T. The use of taklif in Persuratan Baru also enables the evaluation of literary works based on their portrayal of true Islamic values.

In today’s age of globalisation, pornography addiction is on the rise in society. This phenomenon not only occurs among adults but is also contagious among teenagers due to rapid technological development. Various efforts have been made to curb this problem. However, by 2022, the problem of pornography addiction has not abated, as traffic statistics of visitors to pornography websites show increasing access by users. Pornography is forbidden and sinful in Islam because it exposes human private parts to people who do not have the right to see them and, at the same time, encourages human desires towards acts that violate Islamic laws. Islam also sees pornography as a form of disease that harms the human soul and spirit, leading people to commit sexual crimes such as extramarital sex, cybersex, rape, obscenity, and child abandonment. Therefore, this article is presented as a preliminary survey to identify the need for the development of a pornography addiction control intervention model based on the Islamic psychospiritual approach. This article uses a qualitative approach by analyzing the documents of past studies related to Islamic psychospiritual treatment to deal with this addiction issue. The study's findings revealed the need for the development of a pornography addiction control intervention model based on the Islamic psychospiritual approach to dealing with the community's physical, mental, spiritual, and moral health problems.
