Spirituality is one of the essential aspects of one’s life. It offers a broader perspective towards a meaningful life while undergoing trials such as caring for children with cancers. Cancer caregivers commonly experience physical, emotional, social, and spiritual challenges. Spiritual issues such as lost hope and associating negative meanings with cancer prognosis may reduce the caregiver’s quality of life. However, this caregiving burden can be a great source of post-traumatic growth. Therefore, the objective of this study is to explore spiritual change, a significant domain in post-traumatic growth among 24 caregivers of children with cancer at one of the teaching hospitals in Kuala Lumpur. Following in-depth interviews, the result of the thematic analysis demonstrated two themes; main religious and mindfulness practices, a significant caregiver’s spiritual development. The majority of caregivers reported increasing spiritual awareness levels, feeling closer to God, and focused on religious practices as caregivers coping mechanisms and patients’ complementary therapy. Hence, spiritual concerns among families of children with cancer need to be addressed during cancer treatment. This study suggests the development of an appropriate quick reference on spiritual aspects for caregivers which would be useful during the cancer trajectory and improve the whole family’s quality of life.

The Council of Sufi Orders under The State Fatwā Department of Negeri Sembilan recognizes the legitimacy of the Naqshabandiyyah ʿĀliyah Shaykh Nāẓim al-Qubrūṣī Sufi order in 2018, accordance to sufism epistimology. However, a doctorate thesis passed in 2020 entitled “The Thought of Sheikh Nāẓim al-Qubruṣī according to the Ahl al-Sunnah Wa al-Jamāʿah” claims a possibility that Shaykh Nāẓim’s belief contradicted the Ahl al-Sunnah Wa al-Jamāʿah beliefs. This was due to the use of the word “unity” found in the books of Shaykh Nāẓim, his acceptance and belief in waḥdah al-wujūd, and the connection of these two notions with pantheism. To ascertain this claim, this research re-assessed the three notions mentioned above. This study analysed each thesis paragraph that claims the existence of “unity,” waḥdah al-wujūd, and pantheism ideas. Then, this research returns to the original speech of Shaykh Nāẓim to look at the full context of the meaning. This research also applied the lexical-semantic approach and academic views. In the debate on waḥdah al-wujūd, this research compares Shaykh Nāẓim with the writings of Imam al-Junayd and Imam al-Ghazālī. It also referred to Sufi scholars’ definitions of Sufistic terms such as ittiḥād. Regarding to the issue of pantheism, this research discovered authentic sources showing that Shaykh Nāẓim rejected this view. After conducting a critical analysis of the thesis, this research roots out that accusation of supporting the idea of “unification” resulted from a lack of in-depth understanding of the “unity” word. The accusation of waḥdah al-wujūd also occurs due to the misunderstanding of maqām al-fanā’s concept. While the accusation of pantheism occurs due to the author's ineptness to differentiate between the Sufi school and pantheism. In conclusion, the allegation that Shaykh Nāẓim holds views that contradict the Ahl al-Sunnah is an invalid claim.

The article is aimed at elaborating on the challenges of Sufi literature in Indonesia. This research is library research using a historical approach to obtain data and conducting content analysis. This research shows that Sufi literary treasures are the largest and most important part of the Islamic literature treasury. Sufi poets are not only pioneers in the revival of national literature in their countries, but they are also pioneers of the rise of the Islamic world. Sufis did not write mystical and transcendental works which are individualistic in nature. Their works are also associated with a social life that appeared in political allegory and literary whit history patterns. Sufism has influenced Indonesian literature since the early era of the spread of Islam in the Archipelago, i.e., in the 13th century. The emergence and development of Sufi literature in Indonesia is a direct impact on the swift process of Islamization, in which among the main actors are saints, scholars, teachers, and Sufi scholars. The works of the 16th-18th centuries have their position in the overall history of Islamic intellectuals in Indonesia. There are many important aspects in these works, especially those related to the way of life, the picture of the world (weltanschauung), and the value system of society. Even these Sufi works influence modern Indonesian literature. The existence of Sufi literature in Indonesia in this modern era is being challenged. The technical issues such as difficulty in obtaining theory and material resources, as well as references for Islamic aesthetics, literature, and culture, were often propounded as a reason for the less attention to the study of Sufi literature. In reality, the real reason is not purely technical; it is caused by the domination of Western theory in their minds, especially from the philosophy of neo-positivism also there is an assumption that non-Western theory has never grown the relevant theory of literary and aesthetics.

Ibn ‘Ajībah has integrated the knowledge of taṣawwuf with the Qur’anic knowledge by writing about the ‘uzlah and dhikr in his Tafsir Sufi Isharī called al-Baḥrul Madīd. Tafsir Sufi Isharī is one of the forms of exegesis to describe the meaning of al-Qur’an. It is an interpretation based on hidden signals that are contrary to the interpretation of the verses of al-Qurʾan. However, this type of interpretation requires a meticulous study, so it is not based on lust as it does by the deviant Shī‘ah Baṭinīyah or it aims to illustrate that the meaning of Allah’s word is too broad. The purpose of this article is to identify Ibn ‘Ajībah’s views about ‘uzlah and dhikr in al-Baḥr al-Madīd. Then, it will evaluated the interpretation of Ibn ‘Ajībah in his works whether it is coincides with the requirements set by the scholars or not. This research is based on the textual study by using content analysis method in criticism and evaluation. Generally, Ibn ‘Ajībah has outlined his views regarding ‘uzlah and dikr. Some of his views are coincide with the requirements and conditions by ‘ulama’ while some others are contrary to what is outlined.

There are both spiritual and physical aspects to every human being. Good spiritual health leads to good bodily health. In order to enjoy a long and prosperous life, these two parts must work together harmoniously. To have a healthy soul or spirituality means to have a strong spiritual component inside oneself. Due to its role as a centre of desires, the soul component is a driving force behind human bodily acts and behaviours. The purpose of this paper is to provide an explanation of the notion and significance of prayer in a Muslim’s quest to cultivate a positive character. Through research on book literacy, data were analysed using content analysis methodologies. The study's findings revealed that prayer is one of the elements in the Islamic psychotherapy method that corresponds with Iman psychotherapy, ‘Ibadah psychotherapy, and Tasawwuf psychotherapy. Psychospiritual therapy is one of the ways a Muslim can develop his consciousness as a servant while also serving as a reminder of Allah SWT’s limitless power and magnificence. A man might interact with Allah SWT as he prays and gain a sense of serenity in his spirit as a result.

The insight of the ‘light of Muhammad’ as primordial light and First Creation of Allah SWT has been discussed in the field of Sufism. It is one of the subdivisions of the Wahdah al-Wujūd (Oneness of Being). However, the debate on the concept of this Sufi cosmology as viewed from scientific knowledge is still scarce. The present study entailed a reexamination of the conceptual mapping of the Sufi cosmology in the scientific framework in which science-based on Divine values. Science, notably the physical cosmology much described in the Western perspective, do not emphasize the Divine aspects so most of them lead to unbelieve in the existence of God. Taken together with an introductory mapping or comparative study between both perspectives namely theology and science, this study tried to shed light on the ontology of the Haqiqat al-Muhammadiyyah (intrinsic, Muhammadan Reality) and on the superiority of Prophet Muhammad PBUH as keys in establishing the relationship of mankind in the diverse aspect of life to the Creator. Although the concept of Nūr Muhammad is speculative through the kashf of the Sufis as the Big Bang theory is also not an absolute among Western astrophysicists, the findings from this comparative study open the discourse for future studies related to the concept of Nūr Muhammad via deeper science in the Islamic Science worldview through the approach of the Lata’if Qur’aniyah which focuses on the aspect of connectedness between servants and Allah SWT.

This study aims to discuss a preliminary analysis of responses by classical and contemporary Muslim scholars on Atheism and New Atheism and identify the approaches that have been taken by them. It also elucidates on type of arguments used by those scholars. While there are many studies about Atheism, New Atheism, and Islam, few or none of them preliminary analysed the works of classical and contemporary Muslim scholars. Selected books written by classical and contemporary Muslim scholars on Atheism and New Atheism were preliminarily reviewed and examined. This study found that the critiques of classical and contemporary Muslim scholars are constructive, systemic, and systematic in upholding the ʿaqīdah. Five renowned and essential rational arguments that are frequently used by classical and contemporary Muslim scholars are the ontological argument, argument from contingency, kalām cosmological argument, teleological argument, and moral argument. The researcher also believes that these respective arguments must also undergo reform (islāh), renewal (tajdīd), and constant improvement in areas or matters that are subject to change over time (mutaghayyirāt).

Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together is a document of joint common ground between Muslims and Christians. It reinforces the initiative to work together for world peace. It has inspired the spirit of fraternity based on the teaching inherent in Muslim and Christian Revelations. This paper presents a portion of a study’s result on how the fraternity spirit penetrates the religious communities in Sabah to live together in accommodative relationships and open-minded attitudes. The paper employed a qualitative approach to designing a case study in Keningau district in the interior division of Sabah. The data collection involves ethnographic fieldwork by conducting interviews with religious leaders and selected local people with mixed-faith families and participant observation in several villages related to this study. The findings indicate that the Muslims and Christians in Sabah can be characterized as brothers and sisters and inspired to be an example of fraternal friendship. These attitudes have been attributed to them: displaying respect for different religions, being committed to fostering peace, being open to differences, and being willing to coexist in proximity. Hence, the spirit of human fraternity pervades Sabah’s inter-religious landscape, which has preserved unity in diversity.

Hence, the spirit of human fraternity pervades Sabah’s inter-religious landscape, which has preserved unity in diversity.","PeriodicalId":53770,"journal":{"name":"Afkar-Jurnal Akidah & Pemikiran Islam-Journal of Aqidah & Islamic Thought","volume":"44 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78092957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article analyzes Islamism and Sayyid Quṭb’s political concept of al-Ḥākimiyyah. According to Qutb, Islamism is a political structure and a part of the Muslim faith. Employing a theoretical perspective of the functions of interpretation proposed by Jorge J. E. Gracia, this analysis found out that Quṭb’s al-Ḥākimiyyah is the most vital concept behind the phenomenon around global religious fundamentalism. This theory promotes a political structure believed to be emanated from God’s will and not merely from the people’s sovereignty. The idea of al-Ḥākimiyyah ignores any laws and systems of values made by human being. In other words, people who attempt to go against the theory will be considered rebelling against the Qur’an and Hadith and assumed to be the enemy. By analyzing through the functional theory of text interpretation of Quṭb’s ideology, this article challenges the narrative of Quṭb’s Islamism and al-Ḥākimiyyah, which presents a very arrogant face of Islam and cannot accept differences in thought. Islamism, through the framework of al-Ḥākimiyyah, is a political structure, not a faith structure. Nevertheless, this kind of Islamism is not merely political, but what Bassam Tibi called religionized politics. Quṭb’s ideological proposal is a real example of the religious doctrine of global fundamentalism. Quṭb’s ideas are the specific interpretation of Islam but not necessarily Islam: it is a political ideology different from Islam’s teaching.

This article refutes the concept of justice promulgated by Musawah, a Malaysia-based feminist organization as anti-thetical to the worldview of Islam, and describes it as an effort to secularize the Muslim’s mind. Based on an analysis of the concept, the article argues that feminist ideology camouflaged as ‘Islamic feminism’ is an attempt to confuse the Muslims in aiming to effect change to Islamic law and ultimately Islam itself.
