Market demand and consumer needs must be the input used when planning volumes and quality attributes of fresh products. Therefore, this research was oriented at analyzing the expected preferences towards the quality attributes required by consumers and the sensory acceptability (e.g. tasting) of new peach varieties. The information was obtained from a sample of 400 peach consumers in Zacatecas, Mexico and it was later analyzed by multidimensional scaling, factor analysis, and cluster analysis. Internacionalización y supervivencia de la pyme agroalimentaria del sur de España 西班牙南部农业食品中小企业的国际化与生存

SMEs represent the basis of the business fabric and are elements of cohesion of the territory in which they carry out their activity. However, business performance, measured through the survival of companies over time, is one of the main problems faced by a fragmented production structure. This work aims to study the effect of internationalization as a business strategy in the survival of SMEs in the agri-food sector in southern Spain. For this, a sample of 1,297 SMEs from the agri-food sector located in the southern area of Spain (Andalusia and Extremadura) was analyzed, which were examined using the Kaplan-Meier method and a longitudinal analysis (2000-2015 period). Compuestos fenólicos y actividad antioxidante en líneas experimentales de sorgo pigmentado cultivado en Coahuila México 墨西哥科阿韦拉市高粱色素实验系的酚类化合物和抗氧化活性

The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare the characteristics of color, content of total phenols, total flavonoids, condensed tannins, total anthocyanins and the antioxidant capacity of seven experimental lines of pigmented sorghum (orange and red grain color) grown in Coahuila, Mexico. Results revealed that the values of lightness, color saturation and hue angle (L*, C* and h) were found in a range of 39 to 64, 14 to 18 and 40 to 80, respectively, which indicates that the analyzed samples were found in the red-yellow quadrant of the hue circle. On the other hand, chemical analyzes indicate a wide range of variability in the content of total phenols (84.77-1203.96 mg GAE/100 g), total flavonoids (11.70-1012.14 mg CE/100 g), condensed tannins (269.95-2831.61 mg CE/100 g) and total anthocyanins (11.87-29.06 mg C3G/100 g). Antioxidant capacities showed significant differences (p ≤ 0.05), with a range of 447.86 μmol TE/100 g to 7579.17 μmol TE/100 g, and 661.92 μmol TE/100 g to 9435.91 μmol TE/100 g for the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and ABTS assays (2,2’-azinobis (3ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)). A high negative correlation was observed between the content of total phenols and the color parameters L*, C* and h, which suggests that the dark grains presented the highest levels of antioxidant compounds. Results of this research will be used to select experimental lines of sorghum that can be used in genetic improvement programs to increase the content of bioactive compounds and expand their applications in the industry to generate nutraceutical foods.

The growing consumers’ interest in quality differentiated products, not only in terms of sensory and nutritional quality but also in terms of parameters such as animal welfare, product origin and production system, makes necessary to research the importance of autochthonous breeds, raised in more sustainable extensive systems, where welfare levels are often high. Additionally, it is well known that ageing is one of the main factors that has influence in the final quality of beef meat. Therefore, this work aimed to study the sensorial profile of organoleptic attributes of Retinta autochthonous breed from two livestock production systems (intensive and extensive) at 7 days and 14 days of ageing. Moreover, a consumer’s assessment was also carried out. Findings showed that the extensive production system improved the quality parameters (tenderness, juiciness and oiliness) of beef meat. The texture parameters were the first to change during the first days of ageing. Regarding the hedonic study, the consumers did not show a clear preference and/or acceptance for any sample, which could indicate that the production systems did not result in a differentiated quality at the organoleptic level by the consumers. It is necessary to promote higher knowledge about the organoleptic attributes which must be considered in the consumption of quality beef, so that the production system can be taken into account in the purchase decision by the consumers.

The agronomic use of spent mushrooms substrate (SPCHs) in a substrate seedbed could be an interesting alternative for the reuse of these residues in line with the European circular economy strategy. This work evaluates the potential use of four treatments with different SPCHs, Agaricus mushroom (-Ch), Pleurotus mushroom (-St), composting of Agaricus (-CO), and a mixture of SPCH (SPCH-Ch and SPCH-St), as a substrate for lettuce and chilli pepper seedbeds.
