This document describes the experience in the control and eradication tasks of invasive weeds carried out in the crops of Catalonia since 2005, from its management point of view. The results allow to affirm that is a complex and not immediate process. Since avoiding the arrival of new plants is very difficult and expensive rapid detection and rapid action on introduced weeds are essential for success. This fact highlights the importance of having a good network of technicians all around the agricultural areas that transfer the information when a problem is detected; also having regulations that allow immediate action is essential. The invasion risk evaluation and the viability of weed control increases the likelihood of success in the eradication process and helps optimizing resources. The aim of this study was to evaluate the “chorizo gallego” fatty acid profile elaborated with lean and fat from pigs fed with a liquid diet including milk whey compared to pigs fed with a commercial solid feeding. The monounsaturated fatty acids were the major fatty acids. Individually, the fatty acids with the highest proportions were oleic (42 % of total fatty acids), palmitic (24 %), stearic (12-13 %), linoleic (8-11 %), vaccenic (3 %), palmitoleic (2.5 %) and myristic. This review summarizes the main scientific works focused on the welfare of rabbits in lactation and growing periods. A suitable material for building the nest has a positive impact, improving kits’ welfare by reducing their mortality. A careful and regular daily handling of newborns during lactation, such as habituation to the farmer, can provide less fearful and stressed rabbits even in adulthood, showing lower mortality in the group period and higher fertility later. Iberian pig production in the free-range system is limited by acorn production. In order to provide an alternative, the use of the Gevuina hazelnut has been proposed. Pigs were split up in two groups (n = 6 per group), one of those was provided with commercial feed (according to appetite) and the other was given a commercial feed and 2 kg of hazelnut/ animal and day from 126,6 ± 4,7 kg of weight until slaughter. The hazelnut analysis revealed they have a great proportion of fat (44 %), with a high amount of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) (93.94 %), of which the main fatty acids where palmitoleic acid (29.99 %) and oleic acid (50.60 %). The C18:1n-9 concentration increased in the hazelnut group, as time increased (P = 0.0001), this led to a greater decrease of C16:0 concentration (P = 0.001) in the hazelnut group than in the other group. Amaranthus palmeri has become one of the most important weed species in the agriculture of the United States of America. During the last few years, there have been reports indicating that this species is invading agroecosystems in other countries and regions, including Spain. The success and weediness of this weed is due to its high reproductive potential, high growth rate, and fast evolution of resistance to herbicides of multiple mechanisms of action. Furthermore, this species has high adaptability that enables invasion of ecosystems different than its center of origin, resulting from its dioecious reproduction, high genetic diversity, and its potential for hybridizing with other Amaranthus species. Due to its weediness, when there are A. palmeri established populations, it is critical to develop integrated mana gement plans that focus on eliminating seed production. In countries or regions where this species is starting to invade, it is recommended that not only regulatory authorities, but also the agricultural sector as a whole, implement aggressive actions to prevent the establishment and dispersion, preferably aiming to eradicate this weed from those places where it is first detected.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the prediction of body weight (BW) of the native Mexican guajolote (NMG) from morphometric measurements (MM) and morphological indices using classification and regression tree analysis (CART). Measures were taken of 244 NMG from the states of Puebla, Chiapas and Campeche. The BW and ten MM were collected, and three morphological indices were estimemated: massiveness (MAS), stockiness (STK) and body condition (CON). The descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation (r) of the variables were analyzed and a regression tree was constructed using the CART method. Coefficients of variation <20% were obtained in the MM, an MAS of 13.50%, STK of 111.12% and the CON of 16.81%. Correlations between BW and MM ranged from moderate to high (r = 0.35 to r = 0.91; P < 0.0001). The CON was the variable with the best score (100%) in the normalized importance analysis, followed by MAS (79.2%) and thoracic perimeter (52.8%). The optimal regression tree diagram formed a total of 13 nodes, of which 7 were terminal nodes, demonstrating that the CON is sufficient to predict the BW of NMG. This study allowed to define a prediction model with an observed explained variance of 86.4% and included the CON, body height and wing width, which can be applied by producers to reliably predict body weight of NMG
