Global climate change increasingly affects agricultural and livestock production with an overwhelmingly negative effect on the health and wellbeing of livestock. The livestock sector must urgently seek for more efficient and sustainable productivity and meet higher standards of animal welfare. The negative effects of climate change on animal health and welfare are the consequence of the combined changes in atmospheric temperature, rainfall, and frequency and magnitude of extreme weather events that can be both direct and indirect. This paper describes the structure of the beekeeping sector and the technical-economic characteristics of the honey bee farms in the province of A Coruña. We identify their role as providers of complementary incomes for the rural population and ecosystem services. To do this, a survey of 87 farms was conducted among producers. As main results we offer a new classification of beekeeping farms based on a cluster analysis. In addition, we review the estimates about the honey production value offered by official statistics and we assess their impact on gross income per capita.

Entomopathogenic fungi are a large group of micro-organisms that provide multiple services to agroecological systems and have some advantages over chemical insecticides, since they produce mortality rates naturally and have less environmental impact. The production of biocontrol agents such as Beauveria bassiana finds multiple limitations, such as the adjustment of the optimum concentration of conidia and specific speed of death, among others. In addition, the potential that Mexican native strains can have for their use in the control of the grasshopper Sphenarium purpurascens (an edible insect but that behaves as a pest in several crops). In the present investigation, the mortality of two instars (or stages) of S. purpurascens in vitro plus the adult phase, was evaluated by applying bio-preparations of the MA-Bb1 strain in porous materials as support. The highest corrected mortality CM% and the highest specific speed of death K(d–1) of the orthopter for the different instants, as well as for the adult of S. purpurascens was presented in the bio-preparation (Zeolite + Diatomite + B. bassiana) at a concentration of 1 × 108 conidia mL–1, presenting a viability of 89,1%. These results show the possibility for biocontrol with the use of the native Mexican strain MA-Bb1 of B. bassiana in combination with porous materials of diatomite and zeolite, in laboratory conditions.

El estudio se re-alizo en 3 fases: I) Investigacion cuantitativa con aplicacion de un instrumento de medicion que midiolas escalas de Domain Specific Innovativeness (DSI) y Health Consciousness (HC) (n = 551, nivel de con-fianza de 95 % y margen de error ± 5,91 %); II) desarrollo del nuevo producto y, III) analisis sensorial porcata hedonica (n = 30). Los resultados muestran dos hallazgos importantes: 1. Explicar que el conocimientode los productos de harina de mezquite se encuentra relacionado con personas que son mas proclives aadoptar productos alimenticios nuevos y que tienden a preocuparse y cuidar mas su salud y 2. El que unproducto saludable, como las galletas elaboradas con harina de mezquite sea evaluado con un puntajesimilar a la opcion menos saludable (galletas de trigo), refleja una oportunidad de negocio, al existir lacreencia en ciertos consumidores que un producto con buen sabor no es saludable EnglishThe consumption of cereal flour in Mexican homes as in other countries is frequent since, traditionallyit has been used in a great variety of dishes becoming part of the basic consumption basket. In this con-text, the objective of the research was to analyze the assessment made by the consumer of Sonora (Me-xico) on a new product, cookies made with mesquite flour. The study was carried out in 3 phases: I) Quan-titative investigation with application of a measuring instrument who measured the Domain SpecificInnovativeness (DSI) and Health Consciousness (HC) scales (n = 551, 95 % confidence level and marginof error ± 5.91 %); II) development of the new product and, III) sensory analysis by hedonic tasting(n = 30). The results show two important findings: 1. Explain the knowledge of mesquite flour products is related to people who are more likely to adopt new food products and who tend to worry and caremore about their health and 2. The healthier new product (cookies made with mesquite flour) is eva-luated with a score similar to the less healthy option (wheat biscuits), and accordingly opens a businessopportunity, as it contrasts with certain consumers’ belief that a product with good taste is not healthy

El estudio se re-alizo en 3 fases: I) Investigacion cuantitativa con aplicacion de un instrumento de medicion que midiolas escalas de Domain Specific Innovativeness (DSI) y Health Consciousness (HC) (n = 551, nivel de con-fianza de 95 % y margen de error ± 5,91 %); II) desarrollo del nuevo producto y, III) analisis sensorial porcata hedonica (n = 30). Los resultados muestran dos hallazgos importantes: 1. Explicar que el conocimientode los productos de harina de mezquite se encuentra relacionado con personas que son mas proclives aadoptar productos alimenticios nuevos y que tienden a preocuparse y cuidar mas su salud y 2. El que unproducto saludable, como las galletas elaboradas con harina de mezquite sea evaluado con un puntajesimilar a la opcion menos saludable (galletas de trigo), refleja una oportunidad de negocio, al existir lacreencia en ciertos consumidores que un producto con buen sabor no es saludable EnglishThe consumption of cereal flour in Mexican homes as in other countries is frequent since, traditionallyit has been used in a great variety of dishes becoming part of the basic consumption basket. In this con-text, the objective of the research was to analyze the assessment made by the consumer of Sonora (Me-xico) on a new product, cookies made with mesquite flour. The study was carried out in 3 phases: I) Quan-titative investigation with application of a measuring instrument who measured the Domain SpecificInnovativeness (DSI) and Health Consciousness (HC) scales (n = 551, 95 % confidence level and marginof error ± 5.91 %); II) development of the new product and, III) sensory analysis by hedonic tasting(n = 30). The results show two important findings: 1. Explain the knowledge of mesquite flour products is related to people who are more likely to adopt new food products and who tend to worry and caremore about their health and 2.
