Text Neck is a diagnosed condition denoting overuse of the neck muscles with technology devices such as tablets, smartphones, and video game consoles [1, p. 141] . The condition is prevalent in all age groups, particularly in those who are heavy users of smartphones [2] , [3] , [4] . The main contributor to text neck is the frequency of handheld technology device use and the length of time that a user is engaged with their device without physical movement, while their head is in a forward posture [5] . It is said to be a type of repetitive stress injury that can affect the spine, neck, shoulder, upper back, muscles, and associated ligaments [6] . Although studies vary in their findings, adults use their mobile phones on average for 5 hours per day, university students for about 8.5 hours per day, and others on average about 2 hours per day [7] , [8] , [9] , [10] . Some studies have shown that people have their mobile phones with them for all but 2 hours of the whole day, increasing the ease with which to access online applications, thus continuing to aggravate existing strains. Text Neck, also referred to as iNeck, is now recognized as a global public health problem [11] .

Spectrum auctions are an important area of public policy that has attracted widespread attention not only among scholars but also the general public. Some milestones are the first spectrum auctions in the United States, in 1994, the high revenue auctions of “3G spectrum” in the United Kingdom and Germany at the turn of the millennium, and the award of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences to Robert Wilson and Paul Milgrom in 2020, in part, for developing new formats used in spectrum auctions.

What is Someone with a doctorate in Cultural Studies doing at an artificial intelligence (AI) Institute? A lot actually. As a Knowledge Mobilization Advisor at Concordia’s Applied AI Institute, I translate feminist principles into AI research and development strategies. If this surprises you, consider how my colleagues (in both worlds) felt. You work where? You studied what? The path from studying feminist stand-up comedy—highlighting the social and political implications of shared laughter—to being a core part of Concordia’s Applied AI Institute (AI2) [1] is not straightforward, but it highlights the importance of interdisciplinary AI research. My arrival, discussed here, demonstrates why my perspective as a feminist scholar is important and necessary for the future of AI research.

The Oxford English Dictionary lists eight distinct meanings for the noun “wave” and 10 for the verb form. Physical phenomena of waves, as known by scientists and engineers, are ubiquitous and include those on water surfaces, in sound, seismology, clouds, electromagnetism, cosmic gravitational radiation, in sand, and so on. In the conventional technical sense, waves almost always have some mathematically stated connection between the wavelength (distance between crests), the phase speed (or frequency), and, sometimes, the amplitude. Various exceptions are known, including solitary waves (solitons) and shock waves. Often the waves are mere propagators of motion, but in other cases, they can transport material as well. With the evolution of the English language, the term “wave” has been invoked to describe a huge variety of phenomena ranging from waves of disease, disorder, and emotion, to hair (“permanent waves”), to crowd behavior in stadiums, to “waving” goodbye, to the World War II women's military WAVES, to the titles of novels—for example, from Virginia Woolf.
