Ethnobotany as a parameter for the study of cultural mimicry among Roma people 民族植物学作为研究罗姆人文化模仿的参数

The nomadic behavior of Roma people has allowed their cultural interaction with peoplefrom different continents. Brazil has received Roma immigrants since its colonization, and there are currently more than 800,000 Roma people among the Brazilian population. This article describes the ethnobotanical knowledge of two Calon families (Alves and Dantas) established in hinterland cities of Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil. The survey was conducted with 23 informants (≥ 40 years old, 85% of the target audience) selected through the snowball technique and using semi-structured interviews. The plants mentioned were collected, identified and deposited in the IPA and UFP herbaria. The 157 species (85 native) are used for food, condiment, cosmetic, medicinal, ritualistic, technological, veterinary, and other purposes. The useful flora and forms of use are similar to those reported by non-Roma communities living in the same region, showing a kind of mimicry adopted by the Roma people, yet maintaining their cultural identity.

Medicinal plants and diabetes: An ethnopharmacological studyin Brazilian Northeast 巴西东北部药用植物与糖尿病的民族药理学研究

Despite access to conventional medical therapies, the use of complementary medicine is increasing in many communities. The present study aimed to evaluate the popular knowledge of medicinal plants used to treat diabetes and its co-morbidities, in four rural communities in the municipality of Vitória de Santo Antão, in the Brazilian State of Pernambuco. The relative importance of a particular medicinal plant was calculated based on the percentage of mentions (IR%). The similarity between the communities was quantified using the Sørensen index (Ss).Interviews were conducted with 141 patients, of these, 83 reported use of medicinal plants as an alternative treatment. Overall there were 186 mentions, covering 61 ethnospecies. In relation to IR%, Mentha × villosa presented the highest value.Knowing the factors that influence selection of medicinal plants sheds light on the mechanisms through which patterns of use develop and this may help to preserve this knowledge.

Seasonal variation of essential oil of germplasm of Lippia origanoides Kunth. (Verbenaceae) 牛皮种质油的季节变化。(马鞭草科)

The biological activities attributed to Lippia origanoidesKunth. vary according to the chemical composition of its essential oil, which can be related to weather factors. The aim of this research was the seasonal study of the essential oil chemical composition taken from L. origanoidesaccessions maintained in germplasm bank in vivo. The essential oil was extracted by hydrodistillation in Clevenger apparatus and identification of the components was done by GC-MS. We have identified 15 compounds of which carvacrol, p-cymene, thymol and methyl-ether-thymol were majority throughout the year for most accessions. In three accessions showed fluctuations in the production of the major compound during the year like the α-pinene, limonene and borneol. The essential oil showed variation in chemical composition throughout the year, the major compound in most of the accessions during the year is carvacrol. In some accessions, there are alterations of the majority component.

Medicinal plants and their popular use in Boa Esperança Settlement, Piracanjuba, Goiás, Brazil 巴西皮拉坎朱巴,Goiás, Boa esperanapera定居点的药用植物及其流行用途

The present study showed medicinal plants and their popular use in the rural settlement Boa Esperança, in Piracanjuba, GO, Brazil. Data were collected from November 2017 to February 2018. A total of 176 species (mostly native) were sampled with the predominance of use to treat respiratory, gastrointestinal problems, kidney stones and various types of infections. The species with the highest number of informations were Dilodendron bipinnatumRadlk.; Morussp.; Pterodon emarginatusVogel; Qualea grandifloraMart. andCochlospermum regium(Mart. ex Schrank) Pilg. With the exception of C. regium, the others species had the maximum use agreement value. The study showed a high richness of species used by settlers. The dissemination of this knowledge of medicinal plants, with an emphasis on native plants, can assist in strengthening the cultural knowledge ofthe local community, encouraging the environmental conservation of various medicinal species used in the region.

Ilex paraguariensis: the effect of genotypes and growth phase on biomass, secondary metabolism and antioxidant activity of in vitro cultivated calli 巴拉圭冬青:基因型和生长阶段对体外培养愈伤组织生物量、次生代谢和抗氧化活性的影响

Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis) produces several secondary metabolites of interest to the pharmaceutical industry, such as chlorogenic acids and methylxanthines. These compounds have been produced in vitro by callus culture from different species. However, for I. paraguariensis, no studies upon the production of these compounds in vitro have been performed to date. In this work, we show that the concentration of secondary metabolites from I. paraguariensis callus is possible and highly dependent on the callus growth phase. We observed that the best phase for the production of secondary compounds in calli of yerba mate is the stationary growth phase on both genotypes tested. In this phase, higher levels of phenolic compounds, chlorogenic acid and 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid and greater antioxidant activity were observed. Chlorogenic acid and 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid presented positive correlation with antioxidant activity. For the first time, secondary compounds were reported in yerba mate calli cultivated in vitro.

The objective of this work was to collect information on the curative use of plants in the municipality of Teziutlán, Puebla through semi-structured interviews. Thus, 78 plants used for medicinal purposes were identified, of which 40 are native to Mexico and 38 introduced; The value of use (UV) of each one and the Informant's Consensus Factor (FCI) of 10 categories of diseases were calculated. The five most frequently used plants are Ruta chalepensisL., Rosmarinus officinalis, Arnica montana, Loeselia mexicana(Lam.) Brandegee and Sambucus ceruleavar., Neomexicana, which underwent a chemical and pharmacological review. On the other hand, the most frequent preparations are infusion and decoction, using mainly leaves (49.34%) and flowers (19.51%). It is concluded that the inhabitants of Teziutlán have a fairly homogeneous ethnomedical knowledge, setting the standard for research on its pharmacological properties.

Aloe verais among the world’s economically most important medicinal plants, but as the growth of this plant and, consequently, the accumulation of metabolites is slow, we tested the hypothesis that root endophytic bacteria isolated from A. veraplants can promote growth and increase the accumulation of aloin in the gel and latex. For this, we inoculate seedlings with four endophytic bacteria and a combination of them. We confirmed the hypothesis and identified two strains with potential for the formulation of inoculants to improve the cultivation of A. vera. The bacterium 149H Paraburkholderiasp. increases the number of leaves and the accumulation of biomass, but on the other hand, 35V Enterobacter ludwigiiinoculation increased the content of aloin in the gel and in the latex. Further research should focus on the association of these two strains in a single inoculant, to both promote growth and increase the synthesis of metabolites.

Essential oils of Cordia species, compounds and applications: a systematic review 荆芥属植物精油、化合物及应用综述

The purpose of this systematic review was to identify the available literature on the essential oil from species of genus Cordia. This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews. The search was conducted on four databases: LILACS, PubMed, Science Direct, and Scopus until June 5th, 2020, with no time or language restrictions. Sixty out of the 1,333 initially gathered studies fit the inclusion criteria after the selection process. Nine species of Cordiawere reported in the selected studies, out of which 79% of the evaluated studies reported essential oil from Cordia curassavica. The essential oil extraction methods identified were hydrodistillation and steam distillation. As for biological application, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, larvicidal and antioxidant activities were the most reported. The main compounds reported for essential oil were β-caryophyllene, α-humulene, α-pinene, bicyclogermacrene, and sabinene. The information reported in this systematic review can contribute scientifically to the recognition of the importance of the genus Cordia.

Green coffee bean extract attenuates gentamicin induced acute nephrotoxicity in rats 绿咖啡豆提取物减轻庆大霉素引起的大鼠急性肾毒性

Gentamicin induced acute nephrotoxicity (GIAN) is considered as one of the important causes of acute renal failure. In recent years’ great effort has been focused on the introduction of herbal medicine as a novel therapeutic agent for prevention of GIAN. Hence, the current study was designed to investigate the effect of green coffee bean extract (GCBE) on GIAN in rats. Results of the present study showed that rat groups that received oral GCBE for 7 days after induction of GIAN (by a daily intraperitoneal injection of gentamicin for 7days), reported a significant improvement in renal functions tests when compared to the GIAN model groups. Moreover, there was significant amelioration in renal oxidative stress markers (renal malondialdehyde, renal superoxide dismutase) and renal histopathological changes in the GCBE-treated groups when compared to GIAN model group. These results indicate that GCBE has a potential role in ameliorating renal damage involved in GIAN.

Genotypic variation effect on quality determination of caper products collected in North-Central Morocco 基因型变异对摩洛哥中北部产刺山柑产品质量测定的影响

The caper plant (Capparis spinosaL., Capparaceae) from Morocco is described differently, and shows a very variable morphology. In this work, two provenances of caper plant, spontaneous and cultivated, from the North-Central Morocco, are characterized on the basis of morphological and productive criteria. Quantitative and qualitative parameters reveal significant differences between the two origins. Thecultivated provenance corresponds to C. spinosasubsp. spinosa, whereas the spontaneous origin is mainly composed of this subspecies and secondarily C. orientalis. Small capers are abundant in the two origins, but their aesthetic quality is more observed in the cultivated one. Caper berries of spontaneous provenance display a longer peduncle and gynophore and those of cultivated provenance are more numerous and thicker. The spontaneous caper genotypes produce capers and caper berries over a longer period and generate less income for the local population.
