The study adapted the Questionnaire of Sociocultural Attitudes Regarding Appearance (SATAQ-3) for Brazilian adolescents. We tested the factorial structure using confirmatory factorial analysis (CFA), exploratory factorial analysis (EFA), concurrent validity and internal consistency in 347 adolescents (171 males) aged 10-13 years. The AFC did not find a good fit of our sample to the models. The AFE, however, resulted in satisfactory adjustment, with factorial structure of six factors explaining slightly more than 50% of the variance. Correlations between SATAQ-3 scores and body image estimation and satisfaction indices, as well as the Body Mass Index, showed concurrent validity of the instrument. The internal consistency is adequate for the general sample and for groups stratified by sex (α Cronbach> 0.804). It has been shown that SATAQ-3 is suitable for administration to Brazilian adolescents aged 10-13 years to analyze sociocultural pressures and the internalization of appearance ideals.

This theoretical paper aims to examine some of the interfaces between rural settings and the field of mental health. First, living conditions in rural regions will be discussed, exploring rurality from a perspective of vulnerability and its impact on psychological health. Next, we will expand this approach by analyzing other analytical perspectives, namely Judith Butler’s (2018) essay on the precariousness of life and Mbembe’s (2018) necropolitics. Finally, this paper seeks to contribute to research on the living conditions and mental health of rural populations, and to promote territorial practices. Consideration will also be given to the specific lifestyles and needs of this community – without disregarding deteriorating conditions of inequality and insecurity arising from the conservative political discourse underway in our society.

Unquestionably, the COVID-19 pandemic threatens the physical and mental health of the population nowadays. In despite of the children are less contaminated in the symptomatic and severe way, these children could be more impacted in the psychological development, as they are a vulnerable population. The present paper addresses the conceptual aspects of Chaos Theory in development and toxic stress, associated with the concepts of self-regulation and coping of stress, aiming to support reflections, from the psychological point of view, about the potential effects of the condition of adversity arising from the pandemic on child development and parenting. The theoretical and conceptual framework supports the comprehension of the adaptive and not adaptive coping types facing the potentially traumatic adverse experience nowadays.

Belinostat is a histone deacetylase inhibitor drug capable of regulating cell growth in diverse cancers. Nonetheless, little information clarified the role of Belinostat in breast cancer. Hence, the functions of Belinostat in breast cancer cells survival was disclosed in this study. Belinostat at 50 and 100 μM were applied to manage MCF-7 cells, cell viability, Ki67 positive cells, cell cycle and apoptosis were monitored via MTT, immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry. Furthermore, the apoptosis-related factors, Wnt/β-catenin pathway and PKC pathway were tested through western blot and qRT-PCR. Lastly, in vivo effect of Belinostat was determined by a murine model. The results showed that Belinostat dampened cell viability, decreased the proportion of Ki67 positive cells and arrested cells at G0/G1 phase. The decreases of Wnt/β-catenin, CCND2 and Myc were observed in MCF-7 cells after Belinostat stimulation. Additionally, Belinostat induced cell apoptosis, meanwhile dampened Bcl-2 and raised Bax and Cleaved caspase 3 in a dose and time-dependent manner. Additionally, Belinostat activated PKC pathway by upgrading PKCδ and P53 expressions. Furthermore, Belinostat restrained tumour weight and volume in vivo. In summary, this study depicted that Belinostat prohibited proliferation and evoked apoptosis via mediating Wnt/β-catenin and PKC pathways in MCF-7 cells.

Abstract The current article is a critical review of the neuropsychological study of religious experience. First, we analyse the philosophical and theological roots of the term and its characterization as a sui generis and unique phenomenon. We subsequently describe the adoption of the concept in psychology, as well as the emergence of alternative approaches that emphasize the role of categorization of experiences as religious. We then move on to explore how both approaches have influenced the neuropsychological study of religious experience, consequently producing different models: sui generis, attributional and others that consider the variety of factors and the heterogeneity of experiences associated with religious practices.

Abstract Modern cognitive science is the outcome of a transdisciplinary effort constituting the largest body of work about the mind in human history. These advancements have guided our understanding of the functional role of the agent’s body and context when producing adaptive behaviour and interactions. Thus, cognition is embodied, embedded, extended and enacted within inward- and outward-directed interactions, which is where the brain/body-in-the-world system emerges. We suggest that the goal of the new cognitive science is to understand the multi-level dynamic mechanisms underlying cognition-in-the-world and review the implications for the relationship between psychology and the social sciences.

Abstract This study’s main objective was to determine whether the five-step theory of mind scale is associated with responses to behavioural inhibition tasks. The data collected for this were the responses to the scale given by 65 Chilean children aged three to five from medium-low socioeconomic levels, and were derived from the changing locations, happy-sad Stroop, day-night and Dimensional Change Card Sort (DCCS) tasks they carried out. Results showed that there was a significant association between the five-step theory of mind scale and behavioural inhibition (r = .28) and behavioural inhibition with the false belief task (r = .31), controlling for age, sex and language. These data support the emergence model as the best model to describe the relationship between theory of mind and behavioural inhibition. Finally, the results are discussed and future lines of study in this subject are put forward.
