Elite tourism appears in a number of selective forms of tourism (cultural, sports, etc.) and is therefore often conceptually defined differently (luxury, premium, high quality, specialised, alternative, transformative). Destinations that are oriented to added benefits for the client and the development of partnerships compete better in the market of elite tourism. In Croatian tourism, some destinations are called destinations of elite tourism. However, there are differences in the development of Croatian coastal destinations that strive for high quality tourism. The aim of this paper is to examine the attitudes of stakeholders of selected coastal cities on the level of development of elite tourism. The purpose of the research is to point out the necessary changes in the model of tourism development (due to the risk of negative externalities in the form of pollution, noise, congestion, difficulty of access to the destination, lack of ambience) which does not favour high paying tourists but directs them to other destinations. The attitudes of coastal destination stakeholders were examined using a combined data collection method (survey method and in-depth interview). The results of the research indicate the lack of balanced destination development in the tourist system. The assessors were the least unified about the destination offer variables regarding the value-added offer and service variable. The contribution of the paper is recommendations to the public and private sector, as well as to the local population in order to improve the segment of luxury offers and reflect on the implementation of global tourism initiatives.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between innovative management and four selected elements of the organization: longevity of the organisation, number of employees, level of education and seniority of employees of small fiberglass shipbuilding organisations in Croatia (SFSC). Innovative management, or innovation management by managers of organisations at all levels is a matter of survival of every organisation. This paper investigates the relationship between innovative management and the elements of the organisation, through the correlation of innovative management with six variables and 36 indicators and selected four organisation elements with four variables and 35 indicators. The above was investigated by a survey on the example of 11 selected SFSC organisations. The research started with the question what the correlation of this connection was. The statistical methods of the program Statistica 12 and SPSS 22 were used for the analysis of correlations. The results of the work in the used analysis led to a unique conclusion that there is no significant connection between innovative management and the selected four organisation elements.

In Zadar County, there is a large difference in development between coastal and rural areas. Those areas located on the Adriatic coast are much more developed than the rural ones. The development of various forms of tourism has a significant impact on the above, given that the scientific and professional literature states that tourism development affects significantly the development of the area itself. The paper deals with the tourist valuation of gusle and guslar performance, traditional musical instruments and the ways of singing a rich cultural heritage. Through the tourist valuation of gusle and guslar performance, different types of tourist products can be created, while also contributing to the preservation of the intangible cultural heritage of Zadar County. Gusle and guslar performance are important, and at the same time they represent an unexploited form of the tourist offer of Zadar County, therefore an initiative is required by key stakeholders in tourism for better and more efficient tourist valuation of gusle and guslar performance. The paper presents a model of tourist valuation of gusle and guslar performance at the level of the rural area of Zadar County.

This paper explores two basic elements of entrepreneurship: family entrepreneurship on the one hand, with its basic features and specificities as a component of entrepreneurship in general, and family entrepreneurship in the field of sports tourism, as a separate branch of entrepreneurship created by allocating productive resources to the subject activity - tourism, which can presently be a segmental factor for the economy of the Republic of Croatia in general. Also, the influence of family entrepreneurship in tourism is determined from the point of view of the creation of new accommodation capacities and the growth of the number of arrivals of domestic and foreign guests in Zadar County. The aim of the paper is to highlight the increasing role and importance of family entrepreneurship in the field of sports tourism. The paper defines recommendations and guidelines for stronger and vigorous development of family business with an emphasis on sports tourism in order to enable better identification, monitoring of development and projection of the impact of family businesses in the field of sports tourism on the economy of the Republic of Croatia.

Venture capital investment funds are an important part of the financial system since they provide capital to companies that do not have enough equity and cannot stipulate optimal financial arrangements with other financial intermediaries. Setting up a venture capital investment fund requires funding raised from a variety of sources. The aim of the paper is to present investment in venture capital funds in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), which is significantly behind the rest of Europe. The problem faced by venture capital funds in CEE countries is that investors do not invest in venture capital funds because of the high level of corruption, fear of unsettled property law aspects, and lack of knowledge of local entrepreneurs leading to poor corporate governance. The achieved results show that foreign investors still do not show sufficient interest in investing in venture capital funds in CEE countries. Given the lack of funds to invest in venture capital funds, they are not developing as in the rest of Europe and thus the demand for this type of financing by entrepreneurs in CEE countries is limited.

Conducting business surveys can lead to very important information about companies’ views on a particular topic, as well as problems that prevent companies from achieving plans and accomplish a higher level of business success. With the development of information and communication technologies and the increasing number of users who successfully apply these technologies in their daily work, web surveys have become the most efficient means of gathering information from a large number of companies. However, conducting business web surveys is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. Therefore, the paper gives an overview of the most important challenges of successfully conducting business web surveys. Challenges that are particularly highlighted and addressed in the paper are related to: the target population and the framework of unit selection in the sample; the reporting unit and the credibility of the response; questionnaire design and technical aspects of the web survey; sending invitations to participate in research and reminders and duration of research; low response rates; analysis of the information collected and interpretation of the results obtained; and feedback from companies.

Protected areas of nature have a long history, and during this century there has been a significant increase in the number and species of them. The reason for this is an increase in awareness among people when it comes to natural values, but also the need for protection due to the exploitation of resources abundant in such areas. The beginning of tourism development in nature protected areas is related to the establishment of national parks and represents the process of connecting visitors with the natural and cultural heritage of the area being visited. It creates many benefits for the local community as well as potential costs that, if mismanaged, can have significant environmental, social and cultural consequences. For this reason, it is important to determine what tourism activities can be undertaken in such areas and to pay particular attention to sustainable development, especially when it comes to the needs of the local population. It is well known that the implementation of certain sustainable tourism tools can, among other things, encourage the active involvement of the local population in the development of tourism in protected areas, as one of the most important stakeholders in the development of tourism. Accordingly, the paper is designed to identify opportunities and forms of involvement of the local population in tourism development in nature protected areas, reasons for supporting the tourism by the local population and how they communicate with the tourist communities, with a preliminary overview of the importance of their involvement.

The Republic of Croatia has seen several large emigration waves throughout history. The last wave of emigration began with the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union in 2013 and continues today. Developed European Union countries such as Germany, Austria and Ireland have become a major destination for Croatian expatriates in search of a better life. The aim of this research is to determine the actual status of the number of Croat emigrants from the Republic of Croatia, to compare the data with the official statistics of the Republic of Croatia and to conclude on the possible consequences of emigration. The results of the research show that the emigration of Croatian citizens cannot be monitored according to the official data of the Central Bureau of Statistics because they are not harmonized with the statistics of the emigration countries, i.e. the number of reported Croatian immigrants is on average 62% higher than the official data of the Republic of Croatia. Forecasts of future migration of Croatian citizens indicate that 20% of the population will lose over the next 30 years, which is why it is already necessary to develop new economic, pension, education and other policies that affect demographic change.

In this paper, sick leave as a form of absenteeism is observed in the context of its negative impact on business results, with special emphasis on productivity, at the level of the overall economy and catering industry in particular as a key part of tourism that largely “drives” the entire Croatian economy. For this purpose, data on sick leave at EU and Croatia level were analysed and compared, whereas data for catering were analysed separately within the Croatian economy. The productivity losses due to sick leave for the Croatian economy were estimated using the HCA method and a comparison of the sick leave effects on Gross Value Added (GVA) between the hospitality and the overall Croatian economy was performed. The results of the analysis indicate a great negative impact of the sick leave on the achieved productivity (1.276% GVA of the Republic of Croatia), but also a significantly more favourable situation in the catering industry than the overall average for Croatia.
