mental health problems affect 10–20% of the pediatric population worldwide, with the same prevalence in both the high-income countries (hics) and low-and-middle-income countries (lmics). hungary has a relatively high prevalence of psychiatric disorders in children aged 4-17 (15.8%). Psychiatric problems in children are an important public health issue in all countries, as the early diagnosis is important not only for the current well-being of the child, but also for their social and economic development throughout their entire lifetime. This paper reviews the relevant health policy acts of the hungarian government that have been released during the previous 15 years. all governmental programs followed the current who (world health organization) and european union guidelines, indicating the growing influence of the international organizations on the domestic health policy. what is interesting, earlier programs concentrated on local governments and actions, and more recent documents underline the responsibility and role of the state and central government. when analyzing the health policy documents concerning child and adolescent mental health services, a gap between the growing scientific knowledge and its implementation can be seen. The situation of the hungarian psychiatry has been worsening from 2006 in terms of the capacity of both the inand outpatient care. hungary has yet to fulfill the aims of already existing programs in the day-to-day clinical practice.

Introduction. chronic rhinitis in children may have different causes, both local – with changes being present only in the nasal cavity – or systemic, with nasal congestion as one of the symptoms of a bigger clinical picture. Aim. the aim of this study was to draw attention to a very rare congenital cause of chronic rhinitis in children – which is hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia. Material and methods. a 6-month-old boy was admitted to the department of pediatric otolaryngology of Warsaw medical university due to chronic nasal obstruction present from birth. clinical investigation included anterior and posterior rhinoscopy and fiberoscopy of nasopharynx. the mri was also performed before admission. complete blood count, serum iron level, serum thyroid hormones and level of igG, iga, igm were examined to exclude anaemia, ozaena and hypothyroidism. antinuclear antibodies (ana) and antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (anca) tests were also ordered to exclude granulomatosis with polyangiitis. next, a mucosal biopsy of the nasal cavity was performed to exclude primary ciliary dyskinesia. allergic prick tests were also performed. Results. after genetic tests, hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia was diagnosed. Conclusions. 1. every case of chronic nasal congestion in children requires not only adequate treatment, but also thorough clinical investigation. 2. nasal obstruction may be due to local causes, systemic diseases and genetic disorders. 3. Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia is a very rare genetic disorder that causes severe, even life threatening symptoms, one of which is chronic rhinitis.

Introduction. Infantile hemangiomas in the region of head and neck are relatively common. When localized in the vicinity of vital organs, airways or the eye, they may cause a serious threat to the child’s health and development, or even life. The recently discovered effectiveness of propranolol in treating infantile hemangiomas enabled the development of a fast and safe treatment methods of these lesions in laryngological patients. Aim. The purpose of this study was to analyze the patients with infantile hemangioma and their treatment with a view to the latest findings and therapeutic standards. Material and methods. Children hospitalized in the years 2013-2015 in the Department of Pediatric Otolaryngology at the Medical University of Warsaw with the diagnosis of infantile hemangioma of the head and neck were included in the study. Data concerning patients’ age and sex, location of the lesion, any additional lesions and duration of the propranolol therapy, as well as the response to treatment, were collected for the study. Results. We included 17 patients (12 girls and 5 boys) in the study. Hemangioma was located in the larynx in 8 cases, there were 3 cases of hemangioma of the tongue, 3 cases of hemangioma of the nasal cavity and 3 cases of a hemangioma in a different location: cheek, parotid gland and palate. In 3 cases, there was an additional hemangioma localized outside of the head and neck region. 11 patients were under one year old at the beginning of treatment. Treatment duration varied from 3 to 12 months. In all cases in which propranolol was introduced in infancy, we observed complete remission of the changes. Conclusions. Propranolol treatment for infantile hemangioma is a very effective and safe way for reducing the mass of the lesion. It allows to reach complete remission when administered early enough.

Introduction. the conditions in the operating room can have an influence on the postoperative results of the refractive surgery performed with excimer lasers. Aim. the aim of this study was to examine the relationship of the temperature of pmma plates (polymethylmethacrylate), environmental conditions and the energy load caused by the laser impulses during refractive surgery procedure. Material and methods. wavelight allegretto and Schwind amaris excimer lasers were used for the study. polymethylmethacrylate (pmma) plates with parameters: -10 dpt myopic ablation and 6.5 mm optical zone were used as a target for photoablation during the calibration of excimer lasers. energy load and temperature rise were measured with high accuracy infrared thermometer. Results. logarithmically rising temperature was measured for both lasers. maximal temperature measuredwas 48°c for the allegretto laser and 43°c for the amaris laser. Conclusions. higher energy load with smaller repetition rate causes higher thermal load. thermal load of the pmma plate during the ablation is dependent on the environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity, air flow, smoke plume evacuation, etc.
