Results

The mean score of the health-promoting lifestyle was 109.73 (SD = 16.80), in which 90.6 percent of the disabled elderly demonstrated unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. The average score for each of the subscales included the following: interpersonal relations, stress management, nutrition, self-actualization, health responsibility, and sports activity.

Conclusions

The health-promoting lifestyle of the disabled elderly needs to be improved; health care workers and the government should pay more attention to the countermeasures that can improve the lifestyle behaviors and promote the health of the disabled elderly.

Objectives

The aim of this project was to train highly professional and specialized nursing students from medical colleges to adapt to bedside clinical care by exploring and discussing various methods of injection and IV infusion in animal experimentation to hone the core professional nursing competencies.

Methods

Two classes from the 2012 senior graduating nursing class were randomly selected by a computer to conduct the diversified practical teaching methods based on animal experimentation. A hospital environment was simulated by requiring students to perform different types of injections and practical IV infusion techniques. A comprehensive evaluation of the core professional competencies, as well as other integrated competencies, was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the teaching methods.

Results

Two-sampled, pairwise u-tests were performed between the scores of the experimental (nursing class 2) and control (nursing class 1) groups. These findings showed that the overall test scores were significantly higher in the experimental group compared to the control group and that the average p-values for the competencies in various categories were <0.01, which indicated statistically significant results.

Conclusions

Based on the data from this project, diversified teaching methods for basic nursing training founded on animal experimentation can help nursing students perfect their core professional competencies and improve their overall professional standing. The introduction of animal experimentation requires further verification, and an increased acknowledgement of its benefits through the widespread dissemination of this information.

Objective

To explore the relationship between social support and self-efficacy in women psychiatrists.

Methods

A survey was conducted in four hospitals in Shandong province using the Social Support Scale and the General Self-efficacy Scale (GSE). A total of 140 women psychiatrists participated in the study.

Results

Women psychiatrists of different ages or with different qualifications experience significant differences in objective support, subjective support, the utilization of support, and total scores on the social support and self-efficacy questionnaires (p < 0.05). There were also significant differences in self-efficacy between different groups (p < 0.05). Subjective support, objective support and the utilization of support have a positive correlation with the self-efficacy of women psychiatrists. Women psychiatrists in different education level have significant differences in objective support, utilization of support and total score of social support (p < 0.01).

Conclusions

Ages and educational backgrounds affect social support and self-efficacy, and self-efficacy had a significant positive correlation with the various dimensions of social support.

Currently, with advances in medical science, the average lifespan of citizens is gradually increasing worldwide, resulting in the emergence of an aging society. Aged patients are especially prone to suffering from various chronic diseases, and many elderly patients select to receive home-based care. Thus, professional care in elderly patients' homes is needed, which also represents a mark of social development. Today, home health nursing is widely applied, including nursing of post labor mothers and their infants, and osteoporosis patients, among others. The aim of the present study was to explore the home health nursing model and its applicable range, as well as existing problems and the impact of the model in the domestic settings.

Population aging is a global issue. The problem is especially critical in societies, such as China and India, where there has been both rapid aging of the population and a tradition that children are the primary caregivers for their elderly parents who are no longer independent. This article discusses a variety of options for various types of professional and non-professional caregivers and services for the elderly in their homes used in the U.S. and how technology has been used to support this heterogeneous model of caregiving. Efforts have been made to coordinate among caregivers and outside services and track changes in health conditions effectively over time through the greater use of technology. These ideas offer a possible path for other societies, such as China and India, facing growing health needs and limited resources to care for the elderly.

Objective

To investigate general self-efficacy levels and to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and achievement motivation in student nurses in China.

Methods

A total of 716 student nurses were enrolled in this study from 7 hospitals in western China. Data were collected using three scales: General Data Scale, Self-Efficacy Scale (SES) and Achievement Motivation Scale (AMS). There were 566 valid questionnaires.

Results

The mean general self-efficacy scores of the student nurses were low. There was a significantly positive relationship between self-efficacy and achievement motivation (r = 0.432, p = 0.000).

Conclusions

Our findings suggested that self-efficacy was related to age and educational levels, rather than gender and place of residence. Nursing managers should take measures to develop the self-efficacy of student nurses; when self-efficacy is developed, the achievement motivation may then be improved. Achievement motivation may also be improved through the improvement of self-efficacy.
