The present paper paves the way toward the automatic tracking of the live camcorder (in theater, on a TV/advertising screen) video sequences. In this respect, a video fingerprinting method based on the intimate statistical model of the DWT coefficients and on a dynamic resynchronization between original and camcorded frames is advanced. Evaluated in partnership with the French cinematography authority, this method resulted in probabilities of missed detection and false alarm of 0.00009 and 0.0036, respectively while its precision and recall ratios are of 0.72.

This paper proposes an improved additional data transmission (ADT) system based on low density parity check (LDPC) code which can transmit an additional data stream in the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) terrestrial digital television system. The LDPC code based ADT system can offer an additional data of rate up to a few megabits per second (Mbps) which is significantly increased compared to the conventional data transmission schemes used in the transmitter identification system.

This paper presents the implementation of the OFDM demodulator and the Viterbi decoder, proposed as part of a wireless High Definition video receiver to be integrated in an FPGA. These blocks were implemented in a Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA. The complete system was previously modeled and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink to extract important hardware characteristics for the FPGA implementation.

In this paper we introduce the Starting-Energy Fair Queuing (SEFQ), a novel class of energy-aware scheduling algorithms aim to guarantee a target lifetime to mobile devices while providing proportional energy consumption and time-constraint meeting to tasks. With the extension of fair queuing to the energy domain, energy consumption of CPU is managed in a way that each task is guaranteed a share of the average power of a fixed period. The simulation results show that the performance of time-sensitive tasks can be traded-off with their fairness.

The present paper provides the proof-of-concepts for the use of the emerging HTML5 open standard as an application virtualization tool. By advancing an architecture based on the client-server model, it is demonstrated that the underlying performances in terms of visual quality, uplink/downlink network consumption and user experience cope with the nowadays expectations of a mobile thin client. The quantitative results refer to a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablet remotely accessing Gedit and Epiphany applications.

For the past two decades, the feature size in the integrated circuits industry has been shrinking continuously. The higher number of gates integrated on a die has been translated into soaring demand for on-chip communication. Different multilevel signaling techniques with and without bus encoding or error control coding have been proposed to deal with the tradeoffs between reliability and power consumption. However, the signal integrity analysis to evaluate these techniques has been often performed based on pessimistic static noise margins. By applying dynamic noise margins, in this paper, we propose a new method to model the receivers in 4-PAM signaling scheme as one of popular alternatives for binary signaling. The outcome of this research demonstrates significant improvement in predicting the reliability performance of the chosen signaling scheme. The more realistic signal integrity analysis presented here can be utilized in favor of various design optimizations, for example, shorter spaces between wires, longer interconnects, faster transitions and lower signaling voltages.

This paper presents an adaptive image contrast enhancement method. The proposed method is based on a local gamma correction piloted by histogram analysis. First, the image histogram is partitioned based on the local minima and the mean gray-level of each partition is calculated. Then, gamma correction is performed using the resulted mean gray-levels. By analyzing the partitioned histograms, the parameters are automatically adjusted. Experimental results show that both good contrast enhancement performance and image brightness preservation can be achieved by the proposed method.

In this paper we propose a design using multiple remotely enhanced hand-computer interaction devices (REHCID) to design a real-time breathing detection system. Due to the restricted detection angle of our previously proposed system, unstable detection can be encountered when patients turn the body over. Our new REHCID placed on both sides of the bed allow the system to detect the patient's breathing regardless of his posture. Our design uses both an Infrared (IR) illuminator projected onto the patient's chest and an IR camera to detect the location of the IR LED. We then transport the IR location to the computer by means of Bluetooth. As the infrared rays are invisible, this design can still detect effectively in a dim environment, without at all influencing the quality of the patient's sleep.

Content discovery has historically been a painful process of repeatedly scanning a large gallery of images or, worse, a textual list of shortened titles. The user experience became a race to see whether the user's thumb or brain got numb first. MEMS and enhanced metadata, combined with better connectivity allow for a navigation experience that is actually enjoyable in its own right. This paper reviews some of the key steps necessary to achieve that.
