In this paper, energy pattern and energy gain are introduced to describe the performance of UWB antennas. Numerical simulations and measurements are used to demonstrate the difference between power patterns and energy patterns for narrowband Yagi-Uda antenna, UWB CPW-fed bow-tie slot antenna, UWB comb taper slot antenna, and UWB array. For narrowband antennas, the energy patterns are similar to that of the power patterns in the main beam region. However, there are quite differences between power pattern in frequency domain and energy pattern in time domain for UWB antennas.

Cooperative Intersection Collision Avoidance System (CICAS) program uses roadside radar sensors, a computer processor and algorithms to determine unsafe conditions, and an active LED icon based sign to provide timely alerts and warnings which are designed to reduce the frequency of crashes at rural expressway intersections. The cooperative component of the CICAS system consists of roadside equipment (RSE), on-board equipment (OBE), geospatial information database (GID) and intersection sign state (ISS). Both the RSE and OBE use dedicated short range communication (DSRC) radios operating on the 5.9GHz band. For the tests described in this paper, the supplier of the DSRC radios is Arada. The tests documenting performance were done at the CICAS test intersection located at the intersection of U.S. 169 and County State Aid Highway 13 north of Milaca, MN. The goal of this test was to determine the efficacy with which information can be broadcast from the RSE and received by the OBE as a function of direction and distance of travel from the intersection. The result is it is sufficient to ensure that approaching vehicles will receive a complete GID in sufficient time for its intended use.

Accurate and real-time positioning is an important part of train control, which is crucial for safety assurance of high speed railway in China. For GPS based train positioning scheme, the signal unavailability and signal interference could not be completely solved with current configuration mode. In this paper, from the safety requirements of train positioning in high-speed railways, based on the consideration of signal availability and fault-tolerant performance, an integrated train positioning system is formed by integration of GPS and Compass. The structure and function of the integrated system are given, and the nonlinear filter solution for information fusion is presented, which is compared to traditional Kalman filter based strategies. An HTL-based integrity monitoring method is presented to enhance fault tolerant ability. Results from experiments and simulations demonstrate the integrated positioning method could meet the precision requirement with effective integrity characteristics, and keep its potential for efficiency and safety in various environments.

This paper firstly use the chaotic space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) control to improve the EMI characteristic of photovoltaic (PV) inverters. According to the operating principle of chaotic SVPWM control, it has the advantages in low costs, simple design and suppressing EMI without EMI filter, the implementation method of the chaotic SVPWM control is following provided. Furthermore, the chaotic SVPWM is also employed to improve the total harmonic distortions (THD) of PV inverters, where, a chaotic carrier plays a key part in implementing the chaotic SVPWM control. Finally, simulation results of a PV inverter with different output inductance are given to validate the effectiveness of the chaotic SVPWM in suppressing EMI and improving THD.

A broadband dual-band dual-polarized (DBDP) shared-aperture array is proposed, where the novel L- and C- band overlapped stacked patches are designed as the unit cell of full array. The impedance bandwidth in the lower band is enhanced by avoiding perforation. The DBDP unit cell prototype has been fabricated to validate the overlapped-structure feasibility for phased array applications. The impedance bandwidths (|S11| ≤ -10 dB) of 17.6% (219 MHz) and 15% (790 MHz) are measured in L- and C-band, respectively, while good radiation patterns are also confirmed in both bands.

This paper presents the channel measurements in harsh RF propagation environments using frequency-domain measurement method. A vector network analyzer was used to measure the channel transfer functions in the frequency band of 1-18 GHz. The corresponding channel impulse responses were calculated by taking inverse Fourier transforms of the recorded channel transfer functions. We also presented one of our measurement experiments using this system in a hot-rolled workshop of steel plant. The results include some line of sight (LOS) and non-LOS (NLOS) conditions. The aim here is to collect the necessary data to develop channel models and laboratory-based test and verification methods for the deployment of wireless device.
