This article presents the latest status and achievements of the IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc) Standards for Dynamic Spectrum Access Networks (DYSPAN), formerly IEEE Standards Coordinating Committee 41, that develops standards in the areas of dynamic spectrum access, cognitive radio, interference management, coordination of wireless systems, advanced spectrum management, and policy languages for next generation radio systems under the sponsorship of the IEEE communications society. The article also envisions future directions for the DYSPAN Committee. This paper represents the personal opinion of the authors, not the official opinion of the IEEE ComSoc DYSPAN standards committee.

Self-optimized radio resource management techniques for LTE-A local area deployments LTE-A区域部署的自优化无线电资源管理技术

One of the most promising solutions to improve the performance of wireless networks is the extensive deployment of small size cells, such as femtocells. The expected uncoordinated femtocells deployment makes the Inter-Cell Interference (ICI) management a very critical issue, since it is the most limiting factor in such a scenario, in particular for users in bad conditions. This paper presents a Flexible Spectrum Usage (FSU) algorithm for Local Area (LA) scenarios that aims at limiting the downlink ICI, so that to achieve high system performance while guaranteeing good performance also to users in worst conditions, thanks also to the use of a power control mechanism. This algorithm behaves in a self-optimized and self-configuring manner, allowing the base stations to react autonomously to changes in the surrounding environment and without the necessity of a preplanned spectrum assignment to the various cells.

Efficacy of multivariate cryptosystems for DWSN 多元密码系统在DWSN中的有效性

Dynamic wireless sensor networks (DWSN) is a network of thousands tiny sensor devices deployed in a hostile environment. This network is mainly used for large scale environment monitoring. Security is vital for such networks. However, traditional cryptographic algorithms are resource intensive. They need large computation and require large memory and bandwidth. To address the problems of security in resource limited DWSN, different types of multivariate cryptosystems are proposed. The viability of multivariate cryptosystems for DWSN are examined. Results have indicated that the multivariate cryptosystems are attractive for DWSN. In this paper, efficacy of different multivariate cryptosystems for DWSN has been evaluated. In contrast to other multivariate cryptosystems schemes, rainbow multivariate scheme requires low computational power and reduced storage overheads. Simulation results also show that rainbow multivariate scheme can maximize throughput to achieve short latency for a particular interval of time.

Learning effectiveness of science experiments through cloud multimedia tutorials 云多媒体教学对科学实验学习效果的影响

We are witnessing today an exponential growth of internet technology at an accelerating pace. There are increasingly more and more open and free teaching and learning websites of competitively high quality. When computer labs and multimedia classrooms were limited in school, most instructors were only able to seldom take advantage of rare technology facilities, rendering insufficient effect of learning given the bulk of demands. The government of Taipei County dedicated to comprehensive computer lab updates of all junior high schools within its jurisdiction at the end of March, 2010, expediting full establishment of e-classrooms equipped with computers and projectors. The University is luckily among the beneficiaries, despite the working efficiency of old computers. In pursuit of understanding how to promote the learning approaches and strategies of distant learning, the research conductor attempts to look at the online tutorials of integrated application with information techniques in addition to traditional classrooms and labs. The author hopes to probe the learning effect of distant learning using the study and questionnaire survey on the base of the author's instructed class, accumulating practical experience of traditional learning using online learning tutorials. The conclusions of the study will be used as the foundation for future distant learning promotion and strategy planning.

Problem based learning in Indian engineering education: Drivers and challenges 印度工程教育中基于问题的学习:驱动因素与挑战

PBL as an education model in engineering education is successfully implemented worldwide. Also, since past few years the concept of PBL is progressing well in India. Main focus of this paper is to assess drivers for progress and challenges of PBL implementation for Indian engineering education based on past and ongoing research. Although, PBL has been accepted and successfully implemented at many places in a country, more re sea rch and sustainable efforts are required to make it acceptable and deep rooted in engineering education. Considering its positive re sults and recent developments in the educational sector, it is concluded that PBL has a major role to play to raise the quality of engineering education in India.

A novel intrusion detection algorithm for wireless sensor networks 一种新的无线传感器网络入侵检测算法

Wireless sensor network (WSN) is an emerging important research area. Because WSNs in general and in nature are unattended and physically reachable from the outside world, they could be vulnerable to physical attacks in the form of node capture or node destruction. These forms of attacks are hard to protect against and require intelligent prevention methods. It is necessary for WSNs to have security measures in place as to prevent an intruder from inserting compromised nodes in order to decimate or disturb the network performance. In this paper we present an intrusion detection algorithm for wireless sensor networks which does not require prior knowledge of network behavior or a learning period in order to establish this knowledge. We have taken a more practical approach and constructed this algorithm with small to middle-size networks in mind, like home or office networks. The proposed algorithm is also dynamic in nature as to cope with new and unknown attack types. This algorithm is intended to protect the network and ensure reliable and accurate aggregated sensor readings. Theoretical simulation results indicate that compromised nodes can be detected with high accuracy and low false alarm probability.

In recent years, Problem and Project Based Learning (PBL) has been employed by a growing number of educational institutions to foster creative engineers. This paper aims to explore how PBL can develop creativity in engineering education. Accordingly, a qualitative case study was carried out with a student satellite project (AAUSAT3) in the department of electronic systems at Aalborg University in Denmark. Multiple methods including interviews and observation were employed. The analysis of the empirical data leads to the findings and discussions that PBL can foster creative engineers by providing conditions of problem analysis and solving, the shift from teaching to learning and team based projects. This research therefore contributes to both theory and practice in the PBL setting of engineering education.

Slow Start Backoff (SSB) Algorithm is a simple, efficient, distributed, and well performing medium access control (MAC) layer protocol designed for ad-hoc wireless networks to share the medium. SSB is able to alleviate intensive collisions in high load environments, and SSB can also minimize the average channel access delay in light load environments. Compare with the traditional binary exponential backoff (BEB) algorithm, SSB provides better performance over a wider range of network condition. In this paper, we introduce an analytical model to analysis the saturation throughput of SSB algorithm, and then we use this analytical model to find out an optimal value of threshold for SSB algorithm that maximizes the network capacity based on the current channel status. Simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of SSB protocol. The results confirm that the performance of SSB can be greatly improved by proper choice of the threshold according to the current channel status. Besides, the results also show the SSB algorithm outperforms the traditional BEB algorithm and its variants in both high load and light load environments when its threshold is optimal.

Peer evaluation and Peer review to support PBL teamwork 同行评估和同行评审以支持PBL团队合作

In a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) curriculum in engineering, students work together as a project team. By doing that they have the opportunity to exercise teamwork competencies, like project management and communication skills while studying various engineering topics. In this process feedback is essential in order to stimulate the students. However, the lecturers do not witness all the interactions in the group and also it takes a lot of time to give extensive feedback. Peer review and Peer evaluation method enable teachers to assess teamwork competencies more completely and more time efficient. An extra benefit is that the students learn to take responsibility for assessing the value of contributions to the team efforts. Based on a research project at TU Delft in the Netherlands, this paper will present a variety of Peer evaluation and Peer review instruments and discuss their potential in supporting the PBL group process.

Design of LC-VCO for low power narrowband electronic applications 低功耗窄带电子应用的LC-VCO设计

A low power, low phase-noise Inductance Capacitance voltage controlled oscillator (LC-VCO) is demonstrated on 180 nm CMOS Technology node. By using external current biasing it is not feasible to obtain low power and noise characteristic simultaneously. Therefore, low power and low phase noise characteristics are achieved by using the current mirror is being used. Also to reduce the power modifications is being done in the traditional LC-VCO structure. The VCO designed is operating at 12.5 GHz with tuning range of 7.75% which will useful for wireless narrowband applications. The phase noise attained is −117 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz offset from 12.5GHz oscillation frequency. The power dissipation is 0.1114mW for 1.8V supply voltage. The figure of merit for this LC-VCO is nearly 175. The present oscillator is the best amongst the various CMOS oscillators referred to from literature in terms of the power dissipation and frequency of oscillation.
