Most epidemiological and clinical studies suggest that systematic physical activity increases the body's immune capacity against infections. On the contrary, much evidence suggests that prolonged vigorous exercise training favors the development of infections, particularly viral ones. This twoway exercise effect is described as a “paradox” of exercise. Some theories have been developed about these adverse effects of exhaustive exercise on cellular and humoral immunity, such as open window theory, the J-curve, and the S-curve. However, some questions remain regarding the prevalence of these mechanisms, and the level of the exercise that leads to immunosuppression. Other factors favoring the onset of viral infections in athletes are stress, climatic conditions, incorrect nutrition, crowding, etc. The most common infections are viral infections of the upper respiratory tract, influenza, infection from the Epstein Barr virus. There is no information available to correlate the volume of physical stress with COVID-19 infection. The best preventive measures are to avoid exercising during a febrile infection, vaccination, adequate nutrition, and reduce stress..

Pilomatrixoma is a benign skin neoplasm of the hair follicle. It’s an often misunderstood adnexal tumor confused with other skin lesions mostly affecting pediatric population Head and neck represent the usual locations. We report a rare case of pilomatrixoma in an adult patient located on the face treated surgically without recurrence, different diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of this pathology will be recalled.

Cardiac injuries, specifically acute myocarditis, are a common complication of COVID-19. Recent studies in the literature have supported the beneficial and safe results of colchicine administration in the general population in cases of COVID-19 infection, especially in cases of myocardial injuries. However, the frequency of occurrence in athletes, its treatment, and management of these individuals concerning the return to competitive sports have not yet been clarified. The present case description is a novelty in that it refers to the onset of a mild form of acute myopericarditis secondary to COVID-19 infection in an athlete that was successfully treated as an outpatient with only colchicine. A 45-year-old marathon runner with no underlying health problems showed clinical symptoms of acute pericarditis and mild febrile infection. The biochemical tests were characterized by an increase in the level of troponin. MRI established the diagnosis of mild myopericarditis. In addition, he has been tested positive for COVID-19 by molecular/PCR test. The patient was treated with colchicine alone for three months. After that time, all the clinical and laboratory findings of myopericarditis were subsided. Six months after the onset of the disease, the athlete returned to full competitive action.

Introduction: Dementia is one of the most pressing issues in old age, affecting not only the person who suffers it but also the caregivers and family. Aim: The purpose of this systematic review is to explore the therapeutic value of music as a nonpharmacological intervention for people with AD. A secondary objective is to reveal evidence on the type of music that is most beneficial. Methods: The systematic search included critical review of different databases: Google Scholar, Science Direct, PubMed, Scielo, Dialnet and Cochrane. The search dates ranged from 2006 to 2019 and individual and combinations of the following keywords were used: “Alzheimer’s disease”, “music”, “music therapy” and “dementia” in English, Spanish and Greek. The selected papers were then read in their entirety and further exclusions were made based on ‘fine-tuning’ according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Results revealed publications from many different countries such as: Spain, Greece, USA, Netherlands, Brazil, Germany and China. Searching the databases led to the selection of 21 research studies and 7 systematic reviews including a Cochrane review. Discussion: MT has elicited considerable interest amongst researchers and findings clearly illustrate that this innovative and non-invasive method is of great protective advantage to those suffering cognitive decline as found in AD and that responses to MT are evident within a short period of time [within 5 weeks] with as few as one to two half hour sessions per week. Conclusions: MT stimulates cognitive function, improves mood, and reduces behaviour problems triggered by stressful conditions. It is an inexpensive and pleasant intervention with no adverse effects and has emerged as a promising additional therapeutic approach for patients with dementia. It seems that most benefit is achieved when familiar music is enjoyed amongst a group adding a social element to the whole experience.
