Abstract This paper summarizes assessment biochemical markers of the development of hepatitis B viruses (HBV), in which any possible connection between certain biochemical parameters and chronic hepatitis was identified. Liver function tests are helpful in diagnosing liver disease and dysfunction, assessing severity, tracking treatment, and determining prognosis. According to the findings of biochemical studies, chronic patients have higher levels of ALP, GPT, GOT, and TSB than carriers. The rise in liver enzymes strongly indicates hepatocellular damage, despite the fact that ALP, GPT, GOT, and TSB levels in the carrier group were all within normal parameters as compared to the reference group. Testing liver function in terms of protein level, albumin, and globulin, the concentration of protein profiles in chronic patients is clearly decreasing as compared to the carrier group. In severe or long-lasting liver disease, the significant decreasing profile of serum proteins is evident in some conditions, the release of tumor necrosis factor hampers the synthesis of albumin, however, induce the synthesis of the acute phase response, hypoalbuminemia is multifactorial, while the hepatic synthesis of albumin is decreased in liver disease.

Soil pollution by some heavy metals including: Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Mo, Cd and Pb from northern industrial area of Erbil City was assessed. The contamination indices including: geoaccumulation (Igeo), contamination factor (CF), enrichment factor (EF), degree of contamination (Cdeg), pollution load index (PLI) and element contamination index (ECI) were applied to assess soil pollution in Erbil North Industrial area at three sites (for both surface and sub-surface soils). Maximum Fe value 34243.6 ppm was recorded in sub-surface soil (site 2). Maximum values 265.4, 248.8, 98.23 and 397.45 ppm were recorded for Cr, Ni, Cu and Zn at sub-surface soil (site 3). Whereas, maximum values of 22.52, 5.36, 23.9, 6.12 and 65.67 ppm were recorded for As, Mo, Ag, Cd and Pb at surface soil (site 3). Results of analysed heavy metals for soil Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Mo, Ag, Cd and Pb have shown that the studied sites were severely contaminated with Cd, so the maximum detected Cd concentration was 6.12 ppm in surface soil (300 meters away from the industrial area). The soil pollution in the studied area was classified as moderate to strong surface and sub-surface soil contamination. Behavioral toxicity experiment showed slight growth effect on Lepidium sativum L.

Recent years have seen an increase in the use of lignocellulosic materials in the development of bioproduct, biorefinery technologies have focused on process integration for the production of different valuable coproducts in order to reduce the overall processing cost. In this study, agricultural wastes from rice straw were used for the co-production of bioethanol and xylitol. Where bioethanol is produced from the cellulosic fraction and xylitol from the hemicellulose fraction after elimination of lignin using chemical pretreatments. The chemical treatment was carried out with diluted acid 2.5% at a 100 °C for 30 minutes , and then exposed the cellulosic fraction of the solid phase resulting from the chemical process to the enzymatic action of the fungus Trichoderma harzianum for releas sugars and fermented at a later stage using Saccharomyces cerecvisae for bioethanol production in a simultaneous saccharification and fermentation process, The liquid phase hemicellulose fraction was exposed to action of Meyerozyma guilliermondii strain F22 (Pichia guilliermondii) for xylitol production. Resulting was accomplished yielding maximum concentrations and product yield were 32.6 g/L 0.39g/g and 20.1 g/L, 0.44g/g for bioethanol and xylitol respectively of the total glucose and xylose available in rice straw, the co-production of xylitol with ethanol in an integrated biorefinery would create economic benefits making the overall lignocellulose-based process more cost effective

The current study aimed to test the blue-green alga Wollea salina on growth in culture media containing different concentrations of magnesium nanoparticles in addition to the control group (free of nanomaterials) in order to find out the effect of those minutes on the algae's physiology by studying their effect on the growth rate and chlorophyll-a Carotenoids, proteins, carbohydrates and fats. The alga under study was classified according to microscopy and based on some taxonomic keys after it was isolated, purified, and then grown in culture medium (BG-11). Three cultures containing three different concentrations of nano-magnesium oxide solution (93.8, 187.5,281.3) mg/L were used to compare that with the growth in the culture medium (control) free of these substances, to be then produced with biomass. For the purpose of ascertaining and knowing the size of the nanoparticles at the nanoscale, the nanocomposites of magnesium oxide were examined by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The height of the molecular assemblies of the magnesium nanoparticles was determined, and the height of the molecular assemblies was 466 nm, with an average particle size of 35 nm. The algae were also photographed with a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) before and after treatment with magnesium nanoparticles, where the pictures showed the presence of morphological changes at the cellular level for these isolates. The growth rate was (0.388) for W. salina at a concentration of (187.5) mg/l of magnesium oxide (MgO NPS), while the results recorded the highest growth rate when the control treatment (without nanomaterials) was (0.507). Representative dyes were also studied, including chlorophyll-a, and the results showed that the highest value of chlorophyll-a at concentration (281.3) mg/l of MgO NPS was (1.068) µg/l. Also, it was noted that the highest value of carotenoid dye was recorded at a concentration of (281.3) mg/l of MgO NPS, which reached (0.992) µg /l. The highest value of protein (23.63) mg/L was recorded at a concentration of (281.3) mg/L of MgO NPS. As for the total carbohydrates, its content was (4.30) mg/L at concentration (281.3) mg/L compared to the control (4.37) mg/L. The results also recorded an increase in the algae's total fat content of( 0.058) g/l at the concentration (281.3) mg/l of MgO NPS compared to the control treatment, which recorded a total fat content of (0.048) g/l). The results of the statistical analysis showed that there were significant differences between the nanocomposites used in the study represented by magnesium in their effect on the physiology of the algae under study, and the control unit (without nanomaterials) at a significant level of p<0.05.
