This article deals with the concepts of function and social structure, developed by two leading figures in British Social Anthropology, Radcliffe -Brown and Malinowski, before the Second World War. In this article, the author distinguishes Malinowski’s concept of function from Radcliffe -Brown’s, delineates Radcliffe-Brown’s concept of social-structure and Evans-Pritchard’s review of this concept. This article particularly intends to help the Indonesia students to study anthropological theory in their own language.

This article tries to explain the sttaus and role of women in Minahasa society. The author describes the image of Minahasa women in legends and folklore. It also describes the position of women in local culture such as in marriage and death, and in the division of labor. Based on historical data, the author gives several examples of events that reflect the character of Minahasa women. This article alsi describes contemporary activities of women in education, religion, and social organizations such as PIKAT, PERKIM, and Dharma Wanita.

Salah satu persoalan dalam filsafat ilmu sosial adalah bagaimana menjelaskan (explain) tindakan-tindakan manusia yang beranekaragam secara ilmiah. Apakah kita dapat menerapkan metode-metode ilmu alam atau ada cara lain yang lebih tepat untuk menjelaskannya? Para ilmuwan sosial masih terus berupaya menemukan the best way untuk menjelaskan gejala-gejala sosial meskipun mereka tetap belum puas. Thomas Kuhn berpendapat bahwa ilmu sosial—tidak seperti ilmu alam—masih terlibat dalam diskusi metodologi yang tidak habis-habisnya karena belum mampu mencapai suatu kesepakatan mengenai paradigma-paradigma umum untuk membatasi masalah-masalah dan prosedur penelitian. Artikel ini berusaha mendiskusikan pandangan interpretive dari Clifford Geertz dalam mengkaji kebudayaan dan masyarakat serta kedudukannya dalam konstelasi metodologi ilmu sosial. Ada dua alasan mengapa perlu mendiskusikan masalah ini: (1) pandangan interpretive terhadap gejala-gejala sosial merupakan perkembangan penting dalam ilmu sosial selama dua dasawarsa; (2) C. In describing the development of legal anthropology as a new subdiscipline in anthropology, the author firstly clarifies the differences between legal anthropology and the common law science. Although the description of law had been found in ethnographic literatures since two centuries ago, a particular analysis on law emerged in 1920s as the result of debates between Malinowski and R. Brown on the mechanism of social control in stateless societies. Problems of whether law exists in the state or stateless societies stimulated the anthropologists to define the boundaries and scopes of "law", such as L. Pospisil's definition. The development of studies, analysis, and interpretation on law systems in various societies lead to the emergence of legal anthropology as a subdiscipline in anthropology.

The objective of this research was to study the export competitiveness of Indonesian natural rubber agroindustry commodity, namely SIR 20 by analyzing and identifying factors which influence the market. The study consists of econometric and system dynamic model. This model also helps to forecast export competitiveness in the future The results of econometric modeling indicated that the significant factors were technology advancement, degree of trade liberalization, wage rate, exchange rate, and percapita incomes of importing countries. Verification was done using face validity method that indicated the relationship between identified factors appropriety with estimated economic logic. The result of forecasts indicated that the export competitiveness would continue to grow for the next 10 years. Export competitiveness rate would remain increasing if there were improvements of the factors.
