: This article focuses on Arturo Gutiérrez Plaza’s poetics as manifested in El cangrejo ermitaño (2020), a gathering of both previously released texts and abundant new materials showing the author´s abandonment of his initial exteriorista style, char-acteristic of Venezuelan poets in the 1980s. In his mature poetry, on the one hand, a dialogue between daily life and myth has special relevance; on the other hand, diverse rhetorical strategies in dealing with referentiality are also essential, ranging from the most direct and anecdotical to meta-discursive, highly experimental pieces. Both its frequent connection to a mythical sphere and its extreme ways of relating to reality through words produce similar results, since the lyrical voice becomes transpersonal either by diluting its identity into the collective realm of language or by placing itself among numinous archetypes and therefore verging on the metaphysical.

Th e objective of this article is to analyze the representation of motherhood in a selection of short stories by Mariana Enriquez and Samanta Schweblin as read within the conventions of the gothic genre. I argue that the use of the genre enables the problematization of the representation of motherhood and care work as horror draws attention to the anxieties that, in our culture, have justifi ed patriarchal intervention. Th is analysis focuses on two conventions featured by the genre: fi rst the haunted house as the space where maternal mandates repress individual and social horrors; and secondly, technological intervention as a way to dominate and/or eliminate the mother pp. 287-304 * Artículo asociado al proyecto Fondecyt Regular No 1200535, “Narrar lo indecible: Gótico, autofi cción y maternidad en la narrativa latinoamericana reciente”. ** PhD. en Lenguas y Literaturas Hispánicas. Correo electrónico: catalina.forttes@pucv.cl。Orcid: https://orcid。org/0000 - 0002 - 7072 - 1474

: This paper problematizes in the light of a conservative canon the themes of humanity’s planning and the prevention of its collapse represented in the third season of the HBO series Westworld (2016-). In particular, the Rehoboam system is analyzed from the ideas of Thomas Hobbes, Edmund Burke, Joseph de Maistre, and the Founding Fathers of the United States. We also focus in the conservative peculiarities of such a system and the nature of the imagined social order required to end poverty, conflict and instability in a future world. Through a content analysis of the eight episodes of the season, it is argued that Rehoboam is the culminating machine of the counterrevolu-tion. , Rehoboam, outliers.
