We assessed the extent to which CO 2 levels altered different hatching and chick parameters. In Experiments 1 and 2, a total of 16,184 eggs from Cobb 500 breeders were incubated in single stage incubators under three different conditions: (a) standard ventilated incubator (CON, Exp.1 and 2); (b) increasing CO 2 levels during the first 10 days of incubation until 0.7% (V7000, Exp. 1) and (c) until 0.8% (V8000, Exp. 2). High levels of CO 2 improved hatchability, possibly due to lower embryo mortality from ED18 to ED21. Internal and external pipping in experiment V8000 started later than in CON; nevertheless, the hatch still occurred before in V8000 as a result of the shorter durations of external pipping and hatch. In Experiment 3, a total of 12,138 eggs from Cobb 500 were incubated in single stage incubators under three different conditions: (a) standard ventilated incubator (CON); (b) increasing CO 2 levels until 1.0% with ventilation (V10000); and (c) increasing CO 2 levels until 1.0% without ventilation (NV10000). Relationship of Linoleic and Alpha-Linolenic Acids on the Productive Performance and Serum Biochemical Profile of Japanese Quail Breeders 亚油酸和α -亚麻酸对日本鹌鹑生产性能和血清生化指标的影响

Linoleic (LA, 18:2) and alpha-linolenic (ALA, 18:3) acids are omega-6 and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids considered essential to human and animal health. The optimum LA/ALA ratio for the production of fertile eggs in Japanese quail breeders has been little investigated. Thus, this study aimed to assess the effects of LA/ALA ratio on productive performance, egg quality, serum biochemical profile, body composition, and organ weight in Japanese quail. A completely randomized design was used. Birds were distributed into five treatments consisting of different LA/ALA ratios (1.48:1, 4.57:1, 7.63:1, 10.69:1, and 13.75:1), obtained by adding soybean (LA) and flaxseed (ALA) oils to the feed. Productive performance and egg quality were assessed in three cycles of 28 days each. At the end of the experiment, the birds were slaughtered and evaluated for biochemical profile, genital organ weights, and body composition. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and regression ( p <0.05). LA/ALA ratio had no effect on productive performance or egg quality. Blood cholesterol in females and males and total triglycerides in females showed a quadratic response. Breeders fed the highest level of flaxseed oil (1.48:1) had the best serum levels of cholesterol and total triglycerides. Live weight and relative organ weights were not influenced by LA/ALA ratio. Differences in ash and crude protein levels were observed between groups, with LA increasing the deposition of these nutrients. It was concluded that LA/ALA ratio didn’t affect productive performance or egg quality. However, based on the results of body composition, serum triglycerides, and cholesterol, it is recommended to use an LA/ALA ratio of 1.48:1 in diets.

Phytochemistry and biological activities of latex from Schubertia grandiflora Mart. (Apocynaceae) 桔梗乳剂的植物化学及生物活性研究。(夹竹桃科)

Schubertia grandiflora is a plant species that produces latex from roots to flowers. This study aimed to evaluate the latex of S. grandiflora on qualitative phytochemical analysis and effects of quantitative biological activities. Latex was collected from logs. Phytochemical analysis of precipitation and colorimetry were carried out for several groups of phytogroups. Antifungal activity was performed on Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Colletotrichum acutatum and C. gloeosporioides, cytotoxic activity on Artemia salina, antioxidant activity on DPPH free radical and determination of inhibition on acetylcholinesterase. The latex proved to be rich in phytochemical groups, inhibition capacity of S. sclerotiorum with 64% and for C. gloeosporioides of 30%, low rate of cytotoxicity with 25% in 1000 µg mL-1, reduction of DPPH free radical of 67% and AChE inhibition of 86%. Schubertia grandiflora latex proved to be a potential natural phytochemical agent for diverse biological activities through this study.

Cure for weak manhood: A persuasive euphemism strategies in selected Nigerian herbal medicines advertisements 治疗软弱的男子气概:尼日利亚草药广告中有说服力的委婉语策略

The study examined herbal medicines advertising discourse as unique terms of depicting weak manhood euphemistically in order not to sound vulgar. Twelve advertisements (ads) served as the data of investigation. The data were taken from Facebook advertisements (both texts and images) and analyzed from the purviews of Barthesian denotative and connotative annotations, Halliday's transitivity concepts, and critical discourse analysis. This study aims to examine how weak manhood is portrayed, the ideology behind its portrayal, and the persuasive techniques used in the ads. The study revealed concealments in form of sexual satisfaction (e.g. next match, lasting gbola, bigga gbola, better something, leg shaking) and power/activeness (e.g. big carrot, strongest bamboo, Manpower, 45 mins, inner chamber, excellence in the other room, power to do more, and extra time/large). The study suggested that further researches to analyze from a multimodal perspective on how different visual and linguistic choices deployed in the herbal cure for weak manhood ads contribute to the euphemistic and persuasive import of taboo-related advertising. Again, however acceptable euphemistic expressions may be in certain context; they are considered too explicit, pinged with negative connotation and therefore create war among readers.

This study aims to examine the psychological effects of digital technology on individuals by analyzing the characters of Jake and Daisy in This Beautiful Life. It also focuses on how the postmodern trend of imbibing the ethos and spirit of late capitalist consumer culture and the commodification of subjectivity put extreme pressure on individuals, leading to their disintegration and degeneration. The study uses the theoretical ideas and insights of leading postmodern theorists, such as Arthur Kroke and David Kroke, to analyze the harmful effects of the postmodern trend of simulating double identity in excess. It explores the causes of the psychic deviations and disintegration of Jake and Daisy within the postmodern context. This research is a qualitative analysis of the novel by using a postmodern theoretical framework to analyze the characters of Jake and Daisy and their actions and choices in the novel. The study finds that the harsh psychological effects of digital technology are evident in the characters of Jake and Daisy. Their unrestrained involvement in the postmodern trend of imbibing the ethos and spirit of late capitalist consumer culture leads to the degeneration and decadence of their psychic integrity. Meanwhile, Daisy's mundane and monotonous life leads her to construct fantasies in her mind, leading her to embark on a sporadic spree of murdering her close friends. The study concludes that the postmodern trend of imbibing the ethos and spirit of late capitalist consumer culture and the commodification of subjectivity have a detrimental effect on individuals' psychological well-being. The lack of postmodern trend to erase the boundary between the normal and the abnormal exacerbates the situation, leading individuals to become cruel and violent.

The prodrug technique is still one of the most effective ways to increase hydrophilic substances' medicinal, pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties. Prodrugs produced in current history have shown good pharmacokinetic characteristics, allowing for a more consistent release and fewer changes in plasma levels. Developing new prodrugs having a desirable ADME (Absorption Distribution Metabolism and Elimination) properties and that still can cross the Blood brain barrier (BBB) and pharmacologically active an appealing task for medicinal chemists. The loss of brain neuron activity characterizes neurodegenerative illnesses, resulting in progressive Gradual cognitive impairment (GCI). Some of the common neurodegenerative diseases are PD (Parkinson's disease), AD (Alzheimer's disease), MS (Multiple sclerosis), ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) & HD (Huntington's disease) are examples of neurodegenerative illnesses with a variety of etiologies and morphological and pathophysiological aspects. The current review is concerned with current advances in prodrug approaches for the treatment and prevention of the most prevalent neurological illnesses, as well as their absorption, selective CNS targeting and chemical and enzymatic stability.

Haemato-biochemical indices and intestinal microbial population of broiler chickens fed diet supplemented with Prosopis africana (African mesquite) essential oil 饲粮中添加非洲牧豆树精油对肉鸡血液生化指标和肠道微生物数量的影响

The objective of this present study was to investigate the haemato-biochemical indices and intestinal microbial population of broiler chickens fed diets supplemented with Prosopis africana (African mesquite) essential oil (PAEO). A total of 540 one-day old broiler chicks of Ross 302 strain were allotted to six treatments with 6 replicates consisting of 15 birds each in a completely randomized design. Feed and water were given ad libitum, and all necessary management practices were strictly observed throughout the experiment, which lasted for 8 weeks. The birds in treatment 1 (T1) was fed a basal diet with no PAEO, T2 was fed basal diet plus 1.2 g kg-1 Oxytetracycline, T3, T4, T5 and T6 were fed basal diet plus PAEO at 200 mg, 400 mg, 600 mg and 800 mg kg-1 respectively. All haematological parameters and intestinal microbial population were influenced by the dietary treatments (p ˂ 0.05). Total protein, triglycerides, cholesterol and urea were significantly different (p < 0.05) across the dietary treatments and are within the physiological ranges reported for healthy chicken. However, serum tryglycerides, low density lipoprotein, high density lipoprotein, magnesium and chloride ion values were not affected by PAEO (p ˃ 0.05). It was concluded PAEO possess several properties – antioxidant, antimicrobial, hepatoprotective, immune-stimulatory, anti-inflammatory and physiological amongst others all of which are vital for the health enhancing effects in birds. Prosopis africana essential oil can be supplemented up to 800 mg kg-1 in the diets of broiler chickens without causing any deleterious effect on their blood profile.

Clinical safety of bovine intra-ovarian application of allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells 同种异体间充质干细胞在牛卵巢内应用的临床安全性

A basic premise of reproductive physiology is that females have a finite and non-renewable stock of germinative cells, which results in a decrease in reproductive capacity over time. For female bovines, a further factor associated with this decrease is follicular puncture (ovum pickup - OPU), a technique widely used for production of embryos in vitro. As such, it is necessary to seek therapeutic or preventive options for fertility problems, and one potential option is treatment with mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), which exercise a paracrine effect in combating inflammatory and degenerative processes. However, as important as evaluating the efficacy of such treatments is an evaluation of safety. In this context, the current study was carried out with the application of 2.5 x 106 allogenic MSC derived from adipose tissue, to the ovarian cortex of healthy nelore (n = 5) and girolando (n = 5) cows. The animals were subsequently evaluated by ultrasonography, clinical examination, number of viable oocytes collected, and rate of embryo production. None of the animals presented any clinical alteration or any alteration on ultrasonography after receiving the MSC. Furthermore, comparison between the number of viable oocytes, embryos produced, and rate of embryo production before and after MSC application did not show a difference. Based on these data, it can be concluded that intraovarian application of 2.5 x 106 adipose-derived MSC is safe, and this technique represents a potential for study as a therapy in cases of ovarian degeneration or lesions.

Greek consumers attitudes and motivations against PDO/PGI Agrifoods 希腊消费者对PDO/PGI农业食品的态度和动机

The study was set out to investigate the factors affecting consumers’ purchasing attitudes and their intention to buy PDO/PGI food products. A total of 615 consumers took part in the study from the municipality of Attica, Greece. The majority of the respondents consider PDO/PGI products of better quality and higher safety than the conventional ones, and they are also able to identify them. However, respondents are unsure whether these products are superior in terms of health benefits, less expensive and tastier than the conventional ones. Furthermore, consumers, who pay attention to the origin, the health claims, the label of a product, and have a high level of consumer awareness, are more likely to buy PDOs/ PGIs. Understanding the main factors that influence consumers to purchase PDO/PGI products, is a vital step towards the promotion of special labeled agri-foodstuffs, which could contribute to the local sustainable development.
