Uganda, being one of the youngest with a number of rapidly growing population in the world of about 3.7% annual growth rate, poses a great challenge to the government seeing that approximately one million young people enter into job market annually yet the youth unemployment rate remains stack at 30%. One way to reverse the unfortunate situation was adoption of the robust Youth livelihood programme, which was designed as a response to the high rate of unemployment and poverty among the youths in the country. Initially, the program covered 112 districts with a budget of Uganda Shillings 265 billion from 2014 to 2017 intended to facilitate the implementation of the programme. However available studies indicate that several interventions have been supported by government, the private sector and non-governmental organizations but the rate of youth unemployment and poverty continues to worsen. This study sought to assess the contribution of skills development support towards enhancing self-reliance among youth in Lira city, mid-north Uganda. Focus was put on the relationship between skills development support and self-reliance. A sample of 254 was selected using simple random sampling technique and data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Results suggest that youth livelihood program, through skills development support plays a significant role towards ensuring self-reliance among the youths in the region. It was recommended that the government of Uganda rethinks its strategy on poverty reduction among young people from a top-bottom approach to a bottom-up approach where the target beneficiaries take a lead role in the program design, its implementation and evaluation.

The vitality and quality of implementing curriculum reforms and innovations depend on the teacher’s acceptance and concerns about the reforms and innovations. This research examines the concerns of Business Studies teachers about the quality of the implementation of School-Based Assessment (SBA) in the Senior High Schools in Central Region of Ghana. A descriptive, cross-sectional survey design was employed, and the census method involved all the Business Studies teachers. Data was gathered using the adapted Stages of Concern Questionnaire (SoCQ), processed via SPSS version 25.0 and analysed using Mean, Standard Deviations, Relative Intensity Percentile (RIP) and Factorial Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA). The study discovered that Business Studies teachers have the most intense concerns self-concerns (Awareness, Informational and Personal) least intense concerns at Impact concerns (e.g., Consequence) about SBA implementation in the curriculum. Further, the study established that Personal, Consequence, Collaboration and Refocusing Concerns significantly depend on teachers’ workload and SBA training. At the same time, gender, age, and years of teaching experience do not significantly influence teachers’ concerns about SBA implementation. The Business Studies teachers were not very much interested and involved in the SBA implementation. They are non-users and resistant to SBA implementation in the curriculum. The study recommended that the MoE/GES and NaCCA, in partnership with school administrators and GABET, should frequently organise ongoing training, workshops, seminars, conferences, and professional development courses for teachers to use and implement SBA in the curriculum. The MoE/GES should provide SBA logistics (tools, equipment) and materials needed for SBA implementation.

This study examines the effect of carbon dioxide emissions on economic growth, including investigating whether the CO2-economic growth relationship is dependent on financial development in Nigeria between 1980 and 2020. Due to dwindling economic growth, Nigeria experienced two recessions in one decade. Besides poor growth rates, Nigeria remains a leading emitter of CO2 in the Sub-Saharan region. The motivation for this study derived from the rising level of carbon dioxide emissions in Nigeria which might affect economic growth by dwindling agricultural activities (low output) in some regions, pose health challenges and create a shortage of inputs to agro-allied industries. Hence, this paper attempted to see if there was a causal relationship between carbon dioxide emissions, financial development, and economic growth in Nigeria. The relationship between the variables was examined using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag estimation technique (ARDL) estimation method. The framework for this study has its basis in the endogenous growth theory and utilizes the growth and pollution stock model which showed that sustainable economic growth is influenced by a large stock of pollution (CO2 emission). The results of the boundaries test for cointegration showed a long-term relationship between CO2 emissions, economic expansion, financial development, and energy use. According to empirical data, CO2 emissions have little long-term impact on economic growth. However, there is evidence that the interaction of CO2 emissions and financial development promotes economic growth over the long term, suggesting that CO2 emissions only have an economic influence when there is financial development.

A woman's vulnerability is never greater than during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. Quality healthcare delivery rest on actual interactions between patients and providers. Empathy has been acknowledged as a crucial component of patient care, benefiting both patients and medical staff. The patient-centered approach is considered an effective strategy to deliver successful patient care when healthcare professionals are more sensitive and attentive to the requirements of patients. Empathy means sharing another person's feelings and showing kindness to alleviate their misery or anguish. It is widely acknowledged as the essential component of nursing and midwifery care and regarded as the component of quality care. However, because it varies from practitioner to practitioner and from patient to patient, it is difficult to understand how compassion presents itself in the delivery of treatment. Midwives' compassionate attitudes and actions have a direct impact on obstetric outcomes. Even though scholars are studying the concept of empathy in nursing, little is known about what empathy in midwifery entails and how patients see it. Many advantages for patient communication, patient satisfaction, and treatment adherence are linked to healthcare professionals' empathy. This paper aims to examine the works of literature on the concept of empathy and highlight how crucial it is to provide care in the context of maternal healthcare.

The paper examines the relationship between corporate culture, core competences and organizational learning among manufacturing firms in Uganda. Using a self-administered questionnaire and interview guide, this research gathered quantitative and qualitative data from 410 Ugandan manufacturing businesses in Uganda. A cross-sectional explanatory survey design was employed to study the nature of reality. To test the hypothesis, regression analysis was performed, while content analysis was used to evaluate qualitative data. According to the results, corporate culture has a positive influence on organizational learning, and core competencies also have a positive effect on organizational learning. The results supported the theoretical foundations of organizational learning and resource-based view theories. As a result of the findings, manufacturing firms may increase the influence of strategic leadership on organizational learning by promoting cultures that emphasize employees' desire to improve and learn, openness, creativity, teamwork, interaction with others, open dialogue, long-term orientation, and mutual trust. Furthermore, manufacturing firms should guarantee that capabilities are built inside their organizations. The results might help Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and policymakers develop strategies and policies to boost organisational learning among manufacturing firms. This research contributes to our knowledge of the influence of strategic leadership aspects on organizational learning in manufacturing firms, particularly in a developing country like Uganda.

Kenya devolution was found to be an ambitious program, counties are facing challenges in enhancing devolved service delivery .The main purpose of this study was to establish the effect of legal framework on devolved service delivery. The study targets a population of 35,444 staff from 8 counties. The study has adopted a mixed method approach.Structured and open-ended questionnaires were used in the study. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis. More results revealed that legal framework had positive and significant on service delivery. Based on the findings the study concludes legal framework significantly improves service delivery. Thus, legal framework in county governments reinforces management support, financial resources and stakeholder engagement thus increasing the propensity to service delivery. Hence, at high levels of legal framework, the effect of management support, financial resources and stakeholder engagement and delivery of devolved services is stronger and significant as opposed to when it is at low or medium level.

The present research aspires to represent the subversion of pre-defined gender roles in the novels; The Shadow of the Crescent Moon (2013) by Fatima Bhutto, Butterfly Season (2014) by Natasha Ahmed, and Stained (2016) by Abda Khan. The researchers had tried to depict the destabilization of gender-based stereotyped identity from the Pakistani perspective. The selected method of study was Feminist Analysis by Tyson (2006), which examined literature as a medium to represent feminist issues, whereas; the theoretical angle of “Matrix of Domination” from Collins’ (2004) Feminist/Gender theory was used as a principle to analyze and depict the subversion of pre-defined gender roles in the selected novels. Present study aimed to establish the notion of gender as a social construct that could be subverted through literary discourses that have the potential to challenge the power-based gender roles within a patriarchal society. In this regard, different critical works of prominent theorists and writers had been discussed briefly in the literature review to project the significance of the works by contemporary Pakistani women writers as a medium to subvert identities formed by their society. Gender was also a means of power, through which the dominant sought to control the subordinate. The objective of the research was to suggest that gender is socially constructed, therefore, it can be deconstructed through literature. The selected novels exemplify the current gender inclinations of today’s Pakistan with the pen of female writers. Stereotyped gender identity is a socially constructed vice that divides humans into segments, hence it is required of the contemporary discourses to decenter such power discourses that perpetuate hegemonic boundaries and restrict the women into social shackles of imposed identities.

Present research study was aimed to examine the cross-national coverage and framing patterns about Jamal Khashoggi’s murder in international media through focusing on newspapers. Khashoggi; an internationally acclaimed US based Saudi journalist was brutally assassinated at Kingdom’s consulate in Turkey which created the global outcry. As the issue was made headlines worldwide for several months, the media from USA, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Turkey; the most substantially and politically involved countries presumably used certain framing patterns in their coverage. To find out the difference in coverage intensity and media frames, a content analysis based comparative study of US, Saudi and Turkish newspapers was conducted which is guided by the framing theory of Mass Communication. The results showed that the media from three selected countries dealt the same issue with significant differences in coverage and framing patterns. Conclusion based on the findings that such differences in cross-national coverage patterns were influenced by the respective state’s ideology, interests, governance system, public narrative, or media settings. The study also explored some facts regarding freedom of expression and about journalists who have been targeted in reprisal of their professional work all over the world. The findings of the study elaborate that most of the newspapers used anti-Saudi frames in their coverage. So far as overall coverage is concerned Turkish and US papers provided a significant coverage to the issue while newspapers from Saudi Arabia provided least coverage to the issue as their media are highly state bound.
